      If I may ask, what are the 4 languages? My guess at the first three are Georgian, English, and Russian but the fourth? Kinda hoping it's a related language of Georgian, like Mingrelian, Svan, or Laz.

    i've read about georgian for years now, learn a couple songs, i know the alphabet mostly, know some words. i've noticed the v sound (ვ) is pronounced more like a w in english. so when i do roman transcriptions for myself i use a w. also i render the ejectives as capital letters, because the typical apostrophe breaks up the flowing appearance of the word. for me for now anyway

    Hi! I´m Austrian and I really fell in love with Georgia! I visited this beautiful country the 1st time in 2014, and I´m planning my next (4th) trip in 2024. I also studied the language hat home with books and CDs.... and yes, I find it not that difficult, than people told me it would be. I was always good at forming sound with my mouth, so georgian pronounciation never was a big deal. The "devilish" ყ... no problem, destinction between for example პ and ფ... no problem! BUT what really makes me cry is your verb system!!! Having different roots for different times or different basic forms compared to personal forms like მოლოდინი and ველოდები. And the fact that you have subject and object inside the verb. For example in Japanese "watashi wa anata no mimasu"...5 words, in German "Ich sehe dich" 3 words and in Georgian simply "გხედავ" 1(!) word. It makes the language very comact and hard to follow native speakers. I often switched to russian in cases like this, if I really couldn´t find the right georgian word. But I often experianced even young people speaking a mix of russian and georgian. I never heared someone saying სამზარეულო, everybody says кухня... maybe because it´s shorter. But the use it in a georgian way like кухнის სართული. But I can eat 10 ხინკალი without wasting 1 single drop of ხორცის წვენი on the plate! 😜

    • @speakgeorgian
      @speakgeorgian  9 місяців тому +2

      Thanks a lot for sharing, unfortunately you are right, we still use Russian words but I hope soon it will be less and less. The verb os the pain also for teachers as it is on of the most difficult part of Georgian. After ending the beginner level videos, hope to cover these "more difficult" topics. Good luck and enjoy your khinkali😍

    From someone whose native language has articles: Getting used to no articles is much harder that you would think. It's not a deal breaker or anything but man, it is tough to stop using them. My native language is Germanic and about 15 years ago I started to learn a Slavic language and still to this day I overuse demonstrative pronouns as a substitute for the article in that language.
    Other than that, sure, I am sure that Georgian isn't as hard as it may seem. But getting use to the different syntax (ERG-ABS system), pronunciation (those ejectives and uvulars), and the insane verbs (I mean it in a good way), ... well, those seem scary but probably aren't as much as you'd think. But OK, a new writing system is also something I would need to get used to. - But if I one day get the chance to learn some Georgian I will take that chance.

    Hello, Anna!
    Could you please tell me if you know of any courses for learning Georgian similar to Pimsleur courses?
    I used the Pimsleur course for Turkish, and despite its superficiality-lack of studying grammatical rules-it really helped me start speaking at some point, overcome that stage where you know quite a lot about the language but can't maintain a conversation.
    When you begin to acquaint yourself with a language, it's always good to first establish some relationship with it, to love it, and it's easier to do that when you at least start speaking it a little, rather than starting with textbooks.

    As an Albanian speaker, this video makes me think that learning Georgian for me would be kinda effortless once I understand how to decode the alphabet. 😂
    Fun fact: most of the borrowed words you mentioned are in our vocabulary too.

    I would also put fonetic pronaunce in English except Georgian alphabet and english meaning to better understand and quicker memberise, so you will learn/catch words before even learning Georgian alphabet, hopefully that make sense 😅
