  • Made-In-India Laser guided rockets for Prachand/Rudra
The one common weapon on Indian Armed forces attack helicopters is 70mm rockets. Be it Rudra - the armed version of ALH or Prachand - the Light combat Helicopter, both are integrated with FZ231 70mm rocket pods by Thales. Each of these pods can carry 12X70mm guided or unguided rockets. These helicopters can carry 4 such pods with them and in total 48 rockets.
The Laser guided rockets which can be fired is FZ275 LGR and it uses semi-active laser for guidance. This missile fills the gap between the long-range high-value missiles and the shorter-range guns/cannon and unguided rockets, thus affording a full range of precision effects from a platform to defeat soft and light armoured targets. The rocket has maximum range of 7 km with CEP of 1m at 6 km range. It has mass of 12.7 kg with 4.1kg warhead. This rocket can be used against soft & light armoured vehicles, soft bunkers, air defence facilities and radar sites.
On 14th February 2023, Thales and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for setting up manufacturing facilities in India for precision-strike 70mm laser guided rockets (FZ275 LGR). This agreement will also provide the opportunity for BDL to offer a ‘Make in India’ 70mm laser guided rocket solution for existing helicopter fleet of Advanced Light Helicopters (WSI) and Light Combat Helicopters of the Indian Government.
On 26th June 2024, Thales group has further announced the partnership with Adani defence for manufacturing 70mm rockets in India.

Licensed manufacturing is not a step forward. Bharat is a nation that can indigenously make any kind of missile with range extending to Mars. I would celebrate much more when a desi version of this licensed product is developed.

This is good news for the LCH if they are making the 70mm dumb rockets in India but if they are making the 70mm rockets along with the APKWS guidance kit it's great great news for the LCH

Bhai you do know that ISRO has already sent rockets to Mars? Why on earth is such a simple rocket being imported???
Even Turkiye makes their own. Negative import list for any type of rocket, including exocets etc.

my question is that why dont we develop pods for Pinaka rockets, with say 3 missiles per pod & 2 pods per LCH, this might give it capability to provide good firepower at stand off range, something like Pinaka ERR-122 will be perfect.

Do u know how large pinaka rockets are, the hardpoints won't be able to carry them, 70mm & 122mm calibres a lot of difference between them

Every Government needs a strong Corporate structure to implement nationalist plans into viable business. How does country's economy grow otherwise? India needs to manufacture whatever it wants to export? You need the Ambanis, Tatas and Adanis to build and manufacture

@@ArupRatanMitra learn to get real and see the bigger picture, ToT and local assembly builds infra and skills, then comes design & development of indigenous stuff. Adani Defence is doing well on all fronts and clearly moving up the value chain. Let them assemble a thousand Drishti, because there is gopod chance that the 1001th drone will be a top notch indigenous one. you can't build top notch stuff without going through the whole learning curve
