Personally, my favorite fact is that despite being fat and selfish, he was not lazy nor helpless in a crisis. He was dangerously capable and more unlucky than incompetent. He hatches the plan to solve his financial issues through corporate espionage. His computer virus works brilliantly, covering his escape as intended. When his SUV gets hung up, he immediately gets out and starts using the winch, grumbling rather than panicking. It only when faced with a deceptively lethal predator that he loses, because he underestimated it, not because he panicked. A powerful counter to an all-too-common trope that fat and selfish means weak and helpless.

in the book, he is very sympathetic. Hammond was a crazy man. Nedry was a self-made tech wiz and had a small company. Hammond was using lawers to basically enslave Nedry's company. So it was less about money and more about payback. I understand in movies they have to compress and change things for time. I am glad you see shades of Hammond's true self in the movie, but he was full on grandiose narcissist.

I just wondered recently if he did succeed in his plan he would have been a wanted man. I guess he was planning on going back to the control room after he dropped off the canister and then switch the power back on. Hammond and the rest would have questioned where the hell he was for an hour.

4:25 It is worth mentioning that in the Jurassic Park novel, Dennis Nedry’s death is way more graphic than what we see in the movie. In the novel Nedry gets blinded by the venom, has his intestines ripped out, and finally has his head in the jaws of the Dilophosaurus. And by the way the Dilophosaurus in the novel is about 6 or 7 feet tall, and has a red & yellow pattern to it.

Went to see this movie in the theaters with my father in the laurel maryland shopping center cinema. There was a bad thunderstorm happening outside while the movie was playing and the power went out during the raptor in the kitchen scene. Being 7 years old at the time that freaked me out and I didn't know if it was part of the show or not. My dad chuckled at me at first but assured me it was just a power outage due to the thunderstorm. The power came back on after about 10 mins allowing us to finish the film with a full refund as well due to the inconvenience of the power going out during one of the most intense scenes in the movie. Nedry wasn't really a villain in the book. He had a legitimate grievance. Hammond hired him to design the system, didn't give him sufficient information, then blamed him when the system was shown to be full of bugs. Hammond then blackmailed Nedry into making all the corrections with no more pay by slandering Nedry to his potential employers. Had Hammond not done this, the whole disaster at JP would never have happened.

There's a non-canonical Lego Jurrasic World cartoon series in which Dennis has a nephew, Danny Neidlemeyer. Dennis does eventually make an appearance as an old recorded video tape with clues to some sort of treasure he was looking for (did I say this was non-canonical?). Unfortunately, they didn't get Wayne Knight to reprise his role. There is also a Lego figure of Dennis, but it's only available in a really big set. I recommend checking it out. It's far superior to the movies it's a prequel to.

I just watched this tonight. What a classic and the entire cast did well. As much as Wayne Knight’s character was conniving, I felt for his death, especially when he lost his glasses as I myself wear glasses. Another fantastic video.

When Nedry said " dont go cheap on me Dodson", he was the one being both greedy and cheap. Also Nedry 's character was shown to be abliar too. He lied and complained about his financial problems to Hammond and nobody else did. Apparently he was the only one having a problem with the salary.

One thing I never really noticed until you kind of pointed it out is that Nedry was generally eloquent and had no trouble speaking. The one time he wasn't eloquent, he was up to no good. That out-of-character moment is something that probably should have tipped off the other staff that something was up, but they never seemed to catch on.

In the book Hammond was absolute villain and willingly knew the park wasn’t in good condition. Dennis’ motive is less money but more getting back at Hammond for mistreating him.

Jurassic Park the game for ps3 was so amazing! Pretty cool that it deals with the embryos and it takes us back to the same location in the movie where Denis met his demise from the Dilo. All these years later the Jeep is still there with Denis laying dead inside of it and it's a spinetingling moment when the dilo jumps out of it.

This movie was a defining part of my childhood. I went to LA a couple years ago to ride the original JP ride at Universal before they revamped it to Jurassic World. I watched Jurassic Park a bunch as a kid, but what really made it have a special place in my heart was all the YTMNDs made about it. On top of that a dude at my school would take other kids' facebook photos and photoshop them into screencaps of Jurassic park. Seriously this movie was the beginning of a life of memes for me.

Thank you! I love Jurassic Park for the characters--more so than the dinosaurs to be honest. And Nedry is my absolute favorite character. I think he's fascinating, fun to watch, and I liked his story. Although he caused so much death, chaos, and destruction (including his own), he also had an understandable motive for doing what he did, although it was wrong--betraying InGen for Biosyn for money. I just think the novel did a better job explaining Nedry's financial situation than the movie did but the movie was my first love... Thanks for making this video!

I loved Nedry! He showcased some of the best early 90s technology. There is I think an early apple Newton/think-pad pda on his desk. It was awesome that he was talking to digitised video with harbour master through his own screen and headset. That cool move synchronising the timer on his Casio databank watch with the timer for the security cameras. The silicon graphics computers. In an age where it was brilliant to see real video on a desktop computer his tech was awesome.
I even had a desktop theme disc that had quotes that matched events on windows 95. “Some of the minor systems might go on and off but it’s nothing to worry about it’s just a simple thing”.
    Rest In Peace Dennis.

If ignorering that some game use that scene later, in the movie you never see him die. So in some time line he is still on the island and looking for that canister, or he just got on the boat, half eating up, but now relaxing on a beach, without arms and legs.

In the novel they expand on his motives, and as a grownup, I even feel a small sympathy. Mild Spoilers: Hammond/Ingen kept all the project in secrecy so kept Nedry working "blindly" (brilliant pun later on) and after some inevitable bugs, they ordered some out of contract additions and modifications to the software without paying him, and even threatening to badmouth him to other companies to keep him on a leash. No wonder he was so fed up. Also his plan was to return to the control room and restore the systems after he delivered the embryos. As a kid, I always though he wanted to ditch the island with the "guy in the boat" and leave everyone to die. His death in the novel is brutal!

  • @KoopaMedia64

Does anyone else here think Hammond is the actual villain in Jurassic Park? He’s directly and indirectly responsible for a lot of the bad that happens in the film, such as screwing over Dennis Nedry, neglecting proper OSHA compliancy around the park which puts nearly everyone at risk and clearly being greedy and uninterested in the well being of others.

Nedry's motivation was better explained in the book. He was abused and blackmailed by Hammond to do his work, really heavy programing work, without all the details needed to do it. And then he was underpaid and blamed for the failures. He had several reasons to betray Hammond, not just greed. I never liked that part of Hammond-Nedry realtionship in the movie, it was like a lot was missing, until I read the book.
