Who the hell wants to cater to these rich people? I say let them starve. We want a mountain community without million dollar houses everywhere. We want a mountain community that can be afforded without having the rich move in and make everything unaffordable.
@City Lights Freemasons and Jesuits run the Colorado state government. There’s nothing you can do. You have to learn how to wage war on the secret societies.
@@AdL629 in another video she claims to rent the places for $1.500, 1k below market price. But still... a bit fishy and confusing, why dosen't not just raise their salary, right?
The average house on zillow is $2M. How much living wage are you suggesting in order to buy a house in that area? If you are working in a pizza joint, the salary of the employee is limited by by the cost of running the restaurant and the amount of money a person is willing to pay for a pizza. Cant pay the workers $30/hr unless you can sell pizzas at $50 per pizza. But, if you can give your employees a free room and pay them $18/hr, thats around $50000 a year package, which is right at the medium income in America. When I was in my 20s, looking for adventure, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat.
I met Kyleena while visiting with my entire extended family on a trip to Crested Butte in 2006 coming from Biloxi where we had just been hammered with Hurricane Katrina just a few months before and really needed a change of scenery. My used car salesman uncle told her we were with Food and Wine magazine (a lie, obviously, like I said used car salesman) doing a story on great restaurants in the area. I'm pretty sure she knew he was just being a turkey and full of it but she was happy to show us her two restaurants anyway and was very nice. I always wondered how her restaurants had done. She seemed really motivated and that she took pride in her work and so I am glad to see she is still succeeding
Too many Californians moving to CO. And those that don’t fully move there are buying a second vacation home there. So it’s still another house lost to a transplant. So of course the locals are kept from home ownership. They can’t compete with deep Cali pockets. They need to put restrictions on home sales. Like make it so Coloradans have first dibs.
Secret societies have their gang signs on the Colorado state seal. They’re turning this place into California. Get out of the way or get run over. If you don’t opposed the secret societies then you don’t know your enemy.
Not just California, Texans are buying up everything, building trophy homes, ruining Colorado culture and they’re clueless in realizing nobody wants them. Same goes with east coast transplants, no difference.
@City Lights Not at all. If anything, they're too STUPID to go somewhere ELSE! I say, let those arrogant moronic business owners and over paid city workers with all their part time rich friends drown in their filthy little town when they don't pay a living wage to those who clean the filth and do the grunt work. But if you're too stupid to see that then same to you too!
well when crested butte and mountain villages are renting out their homes to airbnb and short term rentals then all the housing sill skyrocket. people cant realize that this is what is killing our small towns and making our houses cost a small fortune for a 1 bedroom!!!!
Yeah that will look good campers in backyards, only one parking spot for one house. That will lower property values. If a business can get enough employees to work, they either shut down or pay more.
The rich agains the poor. Equability need to be engineered into society these days. Making those who do it appear to be socialist and those who receive from it recipients. While it’s just really the need for a good cat to catch the mouse.
It is 100% pay the reporter states it is not pay related but yes it is many of these companies pay 15-30 an hour in a town that someone would likely need to make 30-45 an hour just to scrape by. These business in ski town have kept low wages for years and now there is no room to improve pay to a liveable wage and they are learning.. This won't be immediately fixable and hopefully many ski town become ghost towns from no employees. But the likely fix is that many companies are spending thousands of dollars per employee to hire low wage immigrant visa workers from other countries and not investing money in their long term employees who dragged them through the pandemic. The reality is many of them built these problems into community's by suppressing wages for years and firing and hiring as if people are a commodity and not an investment.
Ya but it's not like the owner is jipping the workers. You can't just magically pay all your workers $45/hr unless the public is willing to pay $70 per pizza. You paying $70/pizza? OFC not. You see any immigrant visa workers in that pizza joint? You are generalizing and it doesn't fit every location. All the "help wanted" signs doesnt seem to be because the mom and pop shops are firing to hire people that work for less money.
The problem is the natural beauty is the pull for tourists but they want ammenities and lodging at the end of they day. Crestted butte is kind of remote and the rich can build it but the working man can mot afford to live there. Who can staff like that?

@City Lights I read your other comments and I like how you think.
They want low paying workers but can't pay them basic wage to live there. What a dilemma.
Well she can, but she's going to invest $900k and become their landlord instead.
$20 an hour is not even enough to live a life where you have the things that you need. This world is disgusting.

the video is from VICE, "this town was paradise, then everyone started working from home"
OR instead of employee housing, how about a living wage?
I completely agree this is a LOW PAY problem.
Why not both

Stop paying in peanuts.

I cannot afford to work for low wages, while the price of rent, energy and food skyrockets

Actually more Texans are coming here than Californians. I've spotted texas businesses popping up here.

@Jeremy Macgregor CHIGAGO too!!!!

Burn down the expensive apartments and run the greedy landlords out
I've been there a few too many times. Trust me. Arrogant "rich" people are the LEAST of this town's problems.
what are the other town's problems?
Way too greedy people out here with no skills...
Which job requires "no skills", bootlicker?
... I hear that! No skills, for sure. Even about 30 miles away in Gunnison! (Where you're sure to find a professor or two too.)
They work for the fucking New World order! They work in industries that are destroying God’s natural law. Fuck these people. They can all eat lead.

Nobody can afford the Lift Tickets or Passes anyway...BS

It's not the low pay. It couldn’t be the low pay. So we're just gonna warehouse the workers and jam them into small housing we'll provide.
Wtf does this mean
Greed, avarice, over promotion, over capitalization, complete lack of comprehension of limited space.

I love skiing here but I never understood how employees lived with the high cost
A lot of people will camp out all summer long to save money for winters rent.

2022 should be 100% only chance so Colorado could become #1 best state.
OK dummy
Whos the actress sitting on the desk...she's so fn cool and laid back lmao
She sucks, she’s a horrible person who advocates for small town living but owns multiple air BNB in town and won’t rent to long time renters.
A big solution would be a big TAX..
This is how you keep riff raff outta your town. Price them all out!👍
It's over let it DIE.
Let capitalism happen.
Uncontrolled capitalism is what leads to things like the Great Depression or the 2008 Recession.
Have the wealthy do dishes.
Living in the woods…😂
I'm surprised they let them live in the woods.. usually the police are right on top of that..
