It's definitely a deep rabbit hole. I researched my Home Theatre project for a few years before I went to work. Saved me tons of frustration. Do your homework, do it some more, then do some more homework before you get started and I don't mean analysis paralysis.
There are very few videos I can watch all the way through but this had me engrossed. You have a great talent and great vision. The whole system, room and lighting is just perfect.
Dude, it’s your project with some cool pointers and ideas, thanks. Great job. We all live and learn from our DIY projects but the point it, it’s yours. If you are happy, I’m happy for you. Enjoy bro.....
great project, but if you're speaking of a dedicated media room with projector, the 'lack of light' you were complaining about before the reno, is actually the perfect setting for a dedicated home cinema. It's all about creating the only light in the room on that projection screen, and light walls or objects will reflect that light so the whole room appears lit. I know you made this in your living room, which doubles as media room, but then it's not a dedicated room anymore. I have the same thing in my house. I installed a projector in my living room, which has lighter colors on the wall and on the cabinets. I recently added a second projector, but this time in a 'dedicated' room, with black walls and seats. I even put black carpet on the walls to make a noise trap (to keep noise from 'bouncing' off the walls). This of course would not be possible in my living room, but I tell you it's a massive difference in the experience of watching movies and listening to music. The one in the living room only gets used now when I'm watching sports or something with a bunch of friends.
You can take a small shop vac with a 6 foot hose and duct tape one end to the drywall sander handle 2-3 inches away from the wall. Put vacuum on a camera/guitar strap or backpack and vacuum it while you sand.
I loved the whole project. The only things I'd do differently are, I'd keep the speakers out of the wall and, would probably either removed that door behind the screen or changed the screen location to the opposing wall. The windows wouldn't be a problem because they have to stay close even if you're watching the screen on the actual wall. And oh, I would've hired dry wall people to finish it all off. Cool project! Awesome projector.
I did not expect to watch this video in its entirety, but I did. I even backed up and rewatched a few sections. While I'm not (yet) a subscriber, I have to give you major kudos for the video as a whole. Interesting and never boring.
Johnny, I really enjoyed this video and let me say thanks for not making it a "Part 1 and Part 2" series about 18 min. each. I was so into your build that when you finished I was totally so tired that I had to lie down and rest. Is your other channel open for anyone, I didn't notice an address for it? God Bless my friend.
Hi Frank! you have to click on his channel name "Crafted Workshop" then go to where it says "Channels" click on it then you will see "Crafted Workshop 2" then click that and your there :) Hope that helps...JP
I could write a diatribe regarding drywall but I'll keep it pointed and simple. With two people you don't need a support (you called it a dead man) for a sheet less than 3.6m long come in from the ends about a 1/4 of the sheet. With the screws your supposed to use adhesive with drywall and the screws are intended to hold the sheeting til the glue dries and the muddling is done (the are exceptions). The argument that the drywall is removable if you don't adhere the sheeting is not accurate as the screws get muddled anyway. With the broad knives you where using, you want to choke up on the handle towards the blade and put a finger behind the flat surface for feel and control. What you have done obviously worked and got a good finish so Great job with the whole room and the production of your videos is always great quality cheers.
It's worth noting that you're required to pull a permit and have the work inspected to make these kind of electrical changes (some areas even require a permit and inspection for low voltage wiring). You may or may not need to be licensed, depending on your situation and the local codes/laws. Not getting a permit can come back to bite you 1) If there is a fire or injury 2) If you try to file an insurance claim 3) If a house inspector notices and calls you on the changes when you're trying to sell the property.
This is a great DIY project it came out awesome I really don’t understand why people always have to thumb down peoples projects and videos is it because they doit a bit different from how you thumbdowners would doit because if thats the case everyone is different therefore everyone does things differently so this guy is doing it how he thinks works better for him and his needs im sure if those of you that thumbed down this video made a DIY video and doing it how you think works better for you there would be people down thumbing your videos because they would disagree with something you did or they would doit differently so lets stop hating on other people hard work and ideas and simply appreciate everyone’s unique talents man god bless everyone
Just saw this video. Gave me great ideas for my Den/Home Theater Room. Its in the basement and I don't really have the ability to run extra wires through the walls/ceiling. This bulkhead looks like the perfect solution. Thanks!
Excellent video Johnny! love the project itself, but you did an excellent job with the edit on the video. I learned a lot here, and I appreciate you pointing out your mistakes and learning experiences. You gained a new fan today!

Ive seen a few of you videos in the past. I also watch Perkins Brothers videos, i seen that they are helping one of their buddies with the footings for a mini house. Then this videos popped up so i start watching it and realized that was your mini house. I thought that was funny!
Suggestion : Try Studio Monitors. You can buy them individually. They are very accurate in response. They are powered with xlr balanced input. All the speakers in surround should be identical. Left center right and surround. jbl lsr 305 or 308 are better option. Their wave guide sound dispersion is excellent. Av receiver with xlr digital output is required for this kind setup.
If you want another project, you can use NodeMCU esp8266 to create your own smart blinds, I think all the parts including it’s $5-7 per unit which yields 4 units
I don't recommend having junction boxes for electrical connections buried in the soffits. If an issue happens your gonna have to tear everything apart and it's against code.
@@stedly the code begs to differ. They all have to be readily accessible in an approved box with a cover. Can't tuck it in the wall or soffit and cover it up.
Amazing. 🦋You work so hard and are so creative 🦋. So impressed. I love you long sofa and the warm coloured wooden floor and cute sideboar, coffee ☕table and everything in that new cinema room apart from these film posters on walls. I. Would not promote any film in my own house and I would prefer some colourful art paintings to add more comfy atmosphere. APART FROM THIS your work is great 🦋
Excellent job and no corners cut (well, aside from the molding, in which lots of corners were cut ;-p). Attention to detail is amazing. Great timing too, as I'm in the middle of my mancave remodel. I like that modular sectional a lot.
I'm about to help build a she shed for my wife to do her podcast in and I like this video. The one thing I like bet was the light you used for your video! LOL I know the owner of Aputure and it a great light! I have the newer version of the one you have. Great video.
Looks great! Personally I would have hid the box next to the projector in the recess and pass through the cables through the projector ceiling mount but I have bad OCD when it comes to cables ;) Oh one more thing, how does the in wall/ceiling speakers sound? Once again, great work and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the process on building this room!
Awesome video man. I really appreciate the effort you put in to make quality content. Great voice overs and of course, links in the description. 10/10 Edit: clicked on "show more"..... dude there are 45 links in that description...45!! Well done, Sir
Really impressive install. Gave me some good ideas for my new HT room. But why did you place the side and rear surrounds so low and so close together? Thanls for the great video.
Nice video, but there are some issues about your build. 1. Next time put tubes in the Wall for easy switch or extension on installation 2. Befind screen you should paint in Dark color, this will make more relaxing view on screen and a betyder picture without shine problem 3. Removing isolation in outer Wall is making cool-bridge = wet areas and it ruin the walls if there cold outside amd warm inside
Beautiful project. I could probably emulate such a a DIY project myself, if only it weren't for the lack of tools , having the patience and time, understanding the math, not having access to a garage and the money needed, along with the wife's' approval of letting me do it in the first place.
Honestly I'd have fitted the 77inch LG CX oled super thin tv, a shelf for the Sonos Atmos and some nice seating and called it a day. It's just better than projectors, especially for gaming.
That's pretty awesome. Few queries, 1) Does sitting that close to a screen that big affect the eyes 2) Does it affect in enjoying the videos in full with sitting that close 3) And how's the surround effect working with that many speakers in a small space. Would be grateful for your response as I have a similar sized room that I intend to covert to an exclusive home theater setup. And thanks a lot for this video..sorted a lot of my doubts😊👍🏼
ejh1989, agree! I doubt I would have skinned those soffits with plywood. They don’t add structural value, nothing for the lights, it doesn’t make the drywall process go better and does nothing for the trim. A frustrating step that could have been eliminated. And, when the next owner uses his wireless hologram tv screen with Bluetooth speakers, he will want crown molding in there and wonder why anyone would install a soffit in the room.
@@reedrobb Agree the plywood layer seems entirely unneccessary. Just frame enough to attach the drywall. End result looks GREAT, just way over built. 👍
Very nice job! Right now I have 45 deg slopes along the side walls from the 10' to the 11' height. I was thinking about boxing them in with a soffit similar to what you have built here just to make it easier to terminate the tops of the columns I'm planning to build to house the side surround speakers. I'm starting to wonder though, it might be simpler to just come up with a good way to make the tops of the columns with the 45 deg slope. Your room turned out great, fantastic job!
Wow, huge amount of work involved. This has convinced me it's not a path I'll go down, lol. Looks great.
I wouldn't trust myself with any lasers, I'd probably have a weird urge to look into the line laser 😅🙀
It's definitely a deep rabbit hole. I researched my Home Theatre project for a few years before I went to work. Saved me tons of frustration. Do your homework, do it some more, then do some more homework before you get started and I don't mean analysis paralysis.
Looking for laser projector ended up learning how to use laser levels and how to stop yourself from getting projector. 🤔 and still keeping your wife .
These videos are so like weirdly relaxing and interesting to watch
Yeah. I’m not much of a builder. I mean I love to work with wood and build things, but not in the way he does. But I still love these videos.
There are very few videos I can watch all the way through but this had me engrossed. You have a great talent and great vision. The whole system, room and lighting is just perfect.
Well done. And it's very convenient that you have wooden walls. Here in Europe most walls are concrete, which makes things a lot more difficult.
I’d highly recommend getting an area rug with a non slip padding for the room if you’re concerned about acoustics, it will make a world of difference.
j8lech without a doubt, I agree!
How so?
