I really don't understand why everybody acts like this was a shoot. It absolutely was not. Steiner hits him with an old-school wrestling "punch," which is where he drapes one arm over his head and then hits that arm with his other forearm. I think he may have clipped Tank for real in the exchange at one point, but it was clearly all a work. No clue why they insist it wasn't. If Tank really thought he was getting attacked, he would have thrown legit punches.

Nash shouldn't be saying that Rick Steiner is washed up and can't fight anymore. Rick and Scott Steiner (Rechsteiner) are both All American Wrestlers from the University of Michigan. Doesn't matter how old those guys get.... wrestling is their pedigree and they can still whip some ass!

I don't care how old either Stiener Brother gets I still love them. We all get older and out of shape. Both Steiners are off Steroids now and have gained weight. That just happens. Scott at Slamaversery 15 recently had a gut and wore a shirt. Still would not mess with either. Father Time though is undefeated. Nash is not knocking him.

Rick Steiner lost an actual fight in the ring to Vordell Walker. Rick was 44 and old, while Walker was in his prime at 24. Probably would have been a different fight if Walker took on a prime 24 year old Rick Steiner.

It was a work-shoot. They threw a few potatoes in there to make it look like more than your typical punch. Both guys knew they can could handle it.
WCW had Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Rick and Scott Steiner and Meng/Haku in their roster. If Tank tried to shoot on any of them, Chris and/or Dean would submit him fast, Rick and/or Scott would beat the hell out of him and Meng would tear his eyes and throat out.

Well, WCW knew that Tank Abbott was unstable and could turn a work into a shoot anytime. However, Tank behaved himself after he was told by WCW Management that Meng was their backup plan in case he decided to shoot.

chaoticdays Tank vs Meng would have been a fun fight. People mistake tank as a good MMA fighter, he wasn't a good MMA fighter at all. However he was a very good brawler and could bang. When it came to grappling skills he had next to no defense against them and was easily submitted by low level BJJ guys. But after training in wrestling and ground-and-pound he would have beat the s*** out of meng.

Just because Steiner was a wrestling standout in his day does not mean he’d be able to win an MMA fight. Many a wrestler has gotten his ass kicked by a striker who knows a little bit of wrestling.
Tank wrestled all the way up to college. And he boxed too. He wasn’t the bum he was made out to be. He came very close to knocking out Don Frye (2x UFC tournament champion and UFC Hall of Famer) in a tournament finals match.

For reference see Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock, two “fake fighters” who would have absolutely mauled Tank any day of the week. For further reference see the Undertaker put Olympic gold medalist Kurt angle to sleep.

And skill level has evolved, but those guys also, fought no weight classes and two/three times a nite, no time limit.

Interesting analysis. It's so flawless. It's almost like the wrestlers should bow to the MMA guys, they're so impeccable and untouchable. It's not like we have evidence of a wrestler beating an MMA fighter in a shoot fight or anything. It's not like Kurt Angle bested Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley in shoot fights....oh wait....he did....I haven't heard anything about a Shamrock/Angle encounter but something tells me: Angle would have won that too.
Jerry Hess While I agree with your point, neither Lesnar or Lashley were MMA fighters at the time, Kurt probably could have beat them, or at least Lashley anyway, and I wouldn't exactly count Shamrock out. Also shoots aren't necessarily fights.

Tank was and is a joke; both as a MMA fighter, and as pro wrestler. The guy essentially made his career off having been in bar room brawls. He wasn't a great fighter and he was good for shit as a pro wrestler.

Tank use to fight on the streets years before ufc. He was on ufc when there was no rounds or resting and held pretty well. There where little rules back then that where there to prevent a guy like tank kill another man.
