    That is so smart to use marble as a focal point and use quartz or granite as a hardy surface. I'm literally going to do that.

    Your video is so helpful! Great idea to out felt under the bowl to prevent scratches;
    We have an island and just bought our marble countertop today- we don’t have a sink in tge island and will have to use two slabs
    What color are your cabinets? Are they white? Do you have the name of the color of your cabinets? Or are they offwhite? And again which one?
    Our marble slab is more white and pinkish cream with some green lines and some black lines on the opposite side- so stunning
    You are right- marble is beautiful
    How do you prevent wine spills or other mishaps? Please tell me more
    How do you protect your wooden floors; we will also be putting wood floors in our kitchen

    Thank you so much for the video. There are a lot of types of marbles on the market and it could take some time if we need to choose the right marble types for our kitchen. Thank you once again, really appreciate your video!

    Thank you for the wonderful review. I am in love with your countertop - it is a beauty. I am planning to redo my kitchen to get the french country vibe and the carrera marble would work the best. Every time I see carrara marble (no other marble) I get european bakery vibes.

      Mostly a preference- both are beautiful! I believe polished slightly protects more from seepage. I think you can’t go wrong with either! Best of luck on your renovations or building!

    Thank you for the tips. Great video. I like your Carrara marble backsplash tiles. Is it easy to keep it clean after cooking, as I splash tomato sauces on the backsplash all the time? thanks.

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  Рік тому +1

      Yes it’s easy to clean but I suggest to wipe it clean soon after messes occur just to ensure the mess doesn’t stain the marble. Thanks for watching!

  • @RidewithReed
    @RidewithReed Рік тому +1

    Great review! Just got a huge Carrara island and you’re so right, have to baby it!
    Two questions… what do you wipe it down with after cooking? Like a multipurpose cleaner, just water( hot, cold)?
    Also for the cup stains, oil, scratches, etc. is there a way to get the stains out before resealing? Or are they all permanent😫

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  Рік тому +3

      I wipe it down after cooking. With a damp cloth or damp paper towel. I either use just water (hot or cold is fine I suppose, id avoid extreme temperatures, but just room temp tap water is fine.) I also use marble specific cleaners (test in a small area first) and wipe down with paper towel or cloth. Don't use multipurpose cleaners and don't use abrasive products and don't be too aggressive in the cleaning. As for scratches, they can be buffed out, but do so carefully or seek the help of professionals. And for stains, I find avoiding them is the best method, but life happens! If a stain occurs, a few options are available. But don't overreact and put harsh chemicals or scrub because that can cause more damage. A method that I have found to work best is to make a paste of baking soda and water. Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to form a thick paste. Apply it directly to the stain and only the stained area, then cover it with plastic wrap. Leave the paste in place for at least 24 hours, then check to see whether the solution has worked. Best of luck! I know marble can be tricky but its stunning and I've had my marble island for 7 years and it still looks stunning! prevention and good maintenance with cleaning and sealing will do the trick!

      @danielwester Рік тому +1

      If you need the next step up from baking soda and water use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Mix to a toothpaste consistency. Apply a thin coat on the stain. Cover with syran wrap or similar. Wait 24 hours.
      Test first as this can lighten the area so don't use on overly dark surfaces.
      This also works for stains on enamel pots like le cruise.

    Beautiful and very classic kitchen. Can I install an induction stove on the Island with marble top? Will it burn the edge around? Thank you very much

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  Рік тому

      Thank you so much! I don’t know about an induction stove with marble. My best guess would be that the edge wouldn’t be too hot to damage the marble, but I would suggest further research. My only experience is with gas stoves and gas stoves are fine near marble. Thank you for watching and checking out my channel!

    I was renting an apartment which had a marble kitchen window shelf. I tried hard to get rid of the cup ring that the previous owners made; however, it was impossible. I know there is a way to clear it but the headache of always being cautious with marble is not worth it for me.

      Marble can be a headache! But it’s just so beautiful 😍 for me it’s the like sirens from the Odyssey! I know it’s not a good choice but I can’t help but be drawn to it! Hahah thanks for watching!

    Why is scuffs a problem? It’s a natural stone and you can always polish it!! It’s not like paint where you can only polish off so much.

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  Рік тому

      Scuffs aren’t necessarily a problem! They come with age and use, but I like to avoid too much damage! Maybe just a preference thing! Thanks for watching!

    Is your marble polished or honed? I installed on one side of the kitchen, like you different materia,l I went with Neolith porcelain type material, what is stain free, but I have to be careful with my mittered edges because porcelain are not so durable as stones. So I decided, I want more durable material for my kitchen island and it should be marble. But should I go with honed or polished for practical side...even if I know marble is not practical:) ( I am planning to put a special tuffskin on top of it, thats a new thing they do today )

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  Рік тому

      I have been hearing about the tuffskin! Let me know how you like it’s performance and if you notice it! My stone is polished. I like both honed and polished. I believe polished allows for slower penetration of stains or messes. But don’t quote me on that! Thank you so much for watching and I hope your new counters turn out great!

    • @julissabackus3560
      @julissabackus3560 2 місяці тому

      Hi please let me know how the tuffskin worked for your island; we just bought Italian Marble not carrara but white with brown green and grey streaks and can’t wait to get it installed - i am planning on getting it sealed and then maybe also do the tuffskin- how expensive was tuffskin? And does it really protect the marble? Was yours polished? Ours is honed

  • @aleximann57

    Does your island have little scratches all over ? And you just ignore them or do you try and polish them out? I just got a marble vanity and it was immediately scratched with someone placing something on it

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  2 роки тому

      We have a couple small scratches and over time this happens! I take so good care of it but other people can be rough on your things! At this point I only gently clean it and seal it a couple times a year. At some I think I will polish it or even make the marble matte and polished just to change it up and in so doing repair it. My advice would be to take care of it and accept that damage will occur and look at it like a wood or leather piece of furniture that gets lived in! Sorry about the first scratch on the vanity!

    I have Carara marble in my kitchen backsplash , I just noticed wiuthin a month the tiles backside of the gas stove has started turning dark / stained .
    What should I do?

    • @christinalnelson
      @christinalnelson  2 роки тому

      Sorry to hear this! I would try a gentle cleaner and don’t scrub too hard. Just a few times a week try cleaning it. You could also use a bleach pen at the grout to brighten it up. And I’d it still persists maybe try cooking closer to the front of the stove and not as much close to the wall if you can! I hope this helps!

    • @houlyn

      I read online that it is oil in the air. Maybe try the baking soda paste to draw out the oils. Maybe cover the marble with glass. Someone online wrote about creating a metal backsplash for the first several inches before starting the marble backsplash bc there is more oil in the lower area and the small oil droplets start to be less concentrated up higher. Also, have a good fan to suck up the small airborne particles.
