I feel absolutely lucky for having found you! I also live in Belgium (Gent) and as TEFL Brazilian teacher, it feels like you are directly speaking to me. Wonderful mission found! Thanks a lot.
I have no idea why you stopped posting content and why your website is down, but I think it's a huge shame. Your videos are extremely informative and important. I hope everything is well with you, and that you come back at some point.
This is a very interesting topic. The way I see it is native speakers are great when it comes to immersing yourself - as a student - into the culture behind the language you are learning. A native speaker can bring a lot to the table in that sense because they are familiar with the culture of the English-speaking country where they were born. But when it comes to teaching the language, you don't need to be a native. You need to be a qualified teacher and that's all it should really matter. Unfortunately native speakerism has become a marketing strategy these days, especially because of social media. Please don't stop making content. It's extremely useful!
I'm student of English department and this is my graduation year. i decided to embrace teaching as my career , and i really found your chanel and your efforts of explaining this occupation really helping. it will be a honour for me to start my career based on your instructions 🙏.
Hi Marek you're such a helpful and kind teacher. Please let me know if I can have the chance to work in Belguim as a non-native English teacher and I'm particularly good at speaking ''Dutch' which is as you know one of Belgium's official languages. Actually, I have a TEFL certificate and I'm preparing for the IELTS test!? please help me, Marek!
Hello, your channel has been extremely helpful and inspiring. Do you think it would be possible for someone who hasn't majored in english to get a TELF job?
If possible can you advise me on my situation. I droped out of university studying education because I fell into major depression and could not function. I completed 2 years but my grades look horrible for the last 3 semesters... I have worked as an administrator for a small business but slowly my depression is going away but I do not want to go back to university though. I have a passion for teaching but I felt like the last 2 years of my life I waisted with depression not accomplishing anything but the last 6 months has been good I even started a small business and I am content with my life at the moment. But I still want to teach abroad do you think it is possible with my academic record?

Everyone saying to me if you are not native speaker its not legal to teach english right now in china How can solve this issues I am reallly waiting your video buddy.
hello Muhammet, the thing with China, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan for example, is that if you are gonna apply for a visa, they are demanding you hold a passport from certain English - speaking countries and that might be considered as a legal requisite to get the visa.
I like all your videos...they've been really helpful though i have to notice sth....i've seen all your videos, also joined your website but i noticed you say something about the cv...u say you should not write your mother tongue and nationality but on the other hand you mention you can write how yourself overcame the difficulties with personal strategies learning English as a non native so as to show the recruiters that you are a great candidate for being hired...which one of these two tips according your experience considered to be better?cause they don't match each other...if someone follows the first advice it would be probably better to "stay safe" in a general cv presenting his qualifications and experience but if someone follows the second one it would be appropriate to write also his nationality and mother tongue as well in order to avoid any misunderstanding by the recruiter and to present himself as a well educated, multilingual, professional teacher......sorry for my comment but it was something that i noticed and thought it would be very useful for everyone to mention so as to know which one would be more helpful because if i were a recruiter myself i would consider that this cv has an issue...but i think super extra complicated myself and these days i try to make the perfect cv and want to cover any option in general...
At 50 seconds you pronounce 'run' as 'ran'. This is just one obvious error within a few seconds of you talking. This is just one reason why some students would prefer a native speaker as they are far less likely to make very basic slip ups.
It's clear from your intonation that you are not a native speaker. While you may be qualified, if I were learning Polish, I would come to you for your cultural insight and pronunciation. I think for students to prefer a native teacher is completely legitimate. Assuming that the TEFL industry is purely based on academic credentials is naive. Customer preferences and to a huge extent, international politics determine who is entitled to a visa, not just with English, but with any language teaching globally. You can't condense quite a complex issue down to pure qualifications. No one is 'owed' or entitled to work anywhere. With any job there are a variety of market factors that determine eligibility. I am a qualified musician, and play 7 instruments does that entitle me to be a rock star? I am technically able! No, (although I do work in music and curriculum design). Being technically able to do something means you have to compete with all other candidates according to market and social demands. I play the trumpet at a very high level. If competing with other musicians of the same level for an orchestra position, it is absolutely legitimate for the music director to select his preferred auditioned based on their tone. The same applies to accent. It is completely legitimate when the sound created is integral to the role being filled.
