  • This project I started August 2016 and finished August 2017. Partly due to MANY trials and errors that I am saving you from, as well as it being a big project that I mostly stared at :). You could potentially do this project in 1 to 2 weeks with the process I explain, being larger spaces and leaving a wider circle in the center to tighten it all with. I used a poly rope which I do not recommend it. It was tough to knot, tangled easily and was hard on the hands. It is best to buy local, so speak with someone in your area in regards to the best rope for your project...e.g. if it will be in the weather and the weight it will carry. Take also into consideration what would be comfortable to rest on.
    It is hard to estimate how much rope was used as through the process of experimenting with different techniques some was cut off and used for other purposes. I would roughly estimate at 10 reels of 50 meters. I would recommend buying less and choosing something that you can easily buy more of if need be. Try keep the packets your not working with out of the weather that way you can return them if need be.
    Enjoy

    Finally this is what I have been looking for. I knew I wanted a hammock bed, but the way I sleep meant that regular shape hammocks wouldn't do and I remember I always wanted a round bed. Thank you soooooo much for posting this! I had the idea for this, but no clue how to start let alone that it actually already existed. Lol shouldn't be surprised but I am.

    Very cool! Just be careful leaving it tied to the trees with a girth hitch like you have it, eventually as the trees grow it will strangle them and kill them off. Using a knot that leaves one side open will allow the trees to grow.

If you want to have more than one person lying down you may want a thin mattress as you may end up very close like a hammock. However, if you have your rope good and taught this shouldn't be an issue. Have a great day. :)

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelly great to hear from you. When you say second row of weaving. You are saying...you have completed the rope loops around the trampoline rim and you have then done the first layer of loops at 2.07? You are wondering how to go from that to 2.44? Please correct me if I have that wrong. It is the same process of twisting the rope up behind and through the last loop knot to help form a more secure knot and then pulling it tight. It's the same process as when you started to loop knots around the trampoline rim but this is done around the rope instead.
      To get from the wrapping around to cover the rim to the loop knotting you could leave a long working rope to start off with. So at the end of the wrapping around the bar, tie a few knots and then start the twisting loop at 2.07. (This knotting around the bar is the same process but just around the rope. with the rope come up through the previous look from behind) Continue the twisting loop until you have around half a metre of rope left and tie it off onto some of your work. Then knot on your new strand and continue with the 'loop a small piece up behind and threw an old knot and pass the bulk of your working strand through the twisted loop and pull tight and continue. If I am explaining the wrong section or it doesn't make sense. You are welcome to find me on facebook, private message me and send me some pictures if that will help. take care :)

      @@Coconknits Hi Kelly, When your in a creative flow you want a quick reply. lol 'Awesome' by the way. You are already on your way!. Trial and error seems to work for me too. haha. A tip....Keep a bigger gap in the middle than I did in the clip. In the end I unwrapped maybe 4 rows? In the clip I tried threading and pulling all the way around the gap as one. Pulling it together in one go was hard to do. After I unwrapped and had a larger centre gap, I tried a different way, I looped opposite gaps and pulled....then moved to the next opposite gaps and pulled. I found it easier to pull it together that way. If you need to check in again along the way, feel free to do so. :)

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  6 років тому +3

      Lovely to meet you. I have changed how I have finished it. In the video I lace all the way around which is actually quite hard to pull it all together and at the same time leave enough gap in the middle to reduce sag. It also puts some strain on certain areas of the rope. What is far easier is to lace two opposite holes at a time. So draw the end of your cord through two opposite holes and pull tight, then move across to the next two and pull tight and so on. Depending upon your rope and spacing between knots, depends on the space left in the middle. I have unpulled and re-laced mine, to remove extra sag, and in doing so had a bigger gap to lace up, approx 60cm across was good for mine. If your rope stretches you may need to re-do at some point. In regards to your 'actual question' which is a very good one. :) Each two loops were tied together with one or two half hitches and finished with the round turn shown in this video and two half hitches.
      I will link the video here for anyone who is reading your question who would like to see. :) take care

    Hello Jai Srita :)
    I loved your video. I plan to make this SOON! I have a trampoline frame and tonight I bought 6mm Bonnie Craft Cord, which is polyolefin. I just read in your description that you do not recommend this... however, this is all I can find in-store. (I am trying to avoid buying online to avoid the return process with shipping.) It says on the label that it is "perfect for knotting." You said it was really hard on the hands and my hands aren't incredibly strong.. so what do you recommend using in place of this? All of my nearby craft stores only carry this or a cotton. I am not sure if the cotton cord they offer would even work because there are no reviews and the description is very brief, it is 1/8". I am worried about stretching, especially if I were to use cotton. Would it be worth the time to just stick with the poly rope I have now?? Also, did you work on this from start to finish? If I were to work on this intermittently, would it get loose and have to be redone?
    Any & all advice is appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Kasey Rae

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  6 років тому

      Hi Kasey, Lovely to hear from you. Glad to hear you are going to give this a try. If you have any other questions that come up during the process let me know. :)
      Start to finish was a long process for me actually. My project was outside and rained on for many months as I would do some work and then realise my idea didn't work and pull it apart, rethink and then start again. haha So I'm hoping my process of working it out will save you time. :) I don't think the slack at the end was due to the length of time it took, I think it was more the stretch the rope initially gave and me not pulling the centre tight enough to start with. It was easy enough to rectify but took a couple of goes to get the centre right. ( I do have in a couple of comments below my replies on how I tightened the centre as I have changed it somewhat since the clip. But happy to reply again if it doesn't make sense).
      I live in Australia and bought 12 to 15, "4mm x 50m White Polypropylene Rope" from a local hardware store. If you google the name that I put in between the " " you will be able to find a closer image. I couldn't use the cotton as it would deteriorate too quickly for me.
      Yes you are right I didn't particularly like working with it, in comparison to other cords I've worked with in the past, certainly not my favourite. To help save my hands I mostly worked with fitted gardening gloves with some rubber grip on the fingers.
      I think since you have purchased your rope and if it looks something similar to what I used then know it works just fine and lasts a long time. :)

  • @TemplarX2
    @TemplarX2 Рік тому +1

    The rope you are using is not static so it will stretch. You should use paracord.

    • @jaisrita1212

      Hi JoLynn, I haven't considered selling any as this this one in particular the wool itself cost around $200. I do enjoy making them, but the cost to make can be high even before putting on time. I do have a tutorial on my channel on how to make them. If you find yourself some wool you like and would like to give it a go, you can always ask me questions. If you find some wool you love and would like me to make it for you, and you don't mind paying postage and time then let me know. I do love making them.

      Hi Emma Becherer, please forgive my finding your comment so late. The joints in the frame? The ones that you mention are they the circle top that the slots into itself to make the circle? Or are they where the legs slot into the top? I managed to cover all easily by the initial wrapping of the cord continuously around the circle of the base. It was all covered with no gaps. Perhaps you base is a little differently made to this one? I think the same principle will work. I wish you luck. :)

    Thank you Jai Srita for sharing bless you I just wanted to ask what rope did you use or recommend and the thinkness of the rope or ply thank you Gina

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  6 років тому +1

      Thank you Gina and lovely to meet you.
      I used approx 12 x 50 metre reels of 4mm poly rope ( in rope that is thicker than what you would buy in wool). Keep your receipt in case you need to return some and make sure you can buy more of the same if you need to.
      It works fine if you can't find anything else for outside, however, I don't recommend it for two reasons.
      1. I used this because my hammock is outside in the weather and despite not liking plastic I bought it thinking it best for the conditions and hoped it wouldn't stretch. It does stretch slightly and I have tightened the bed since I've had it up. If you take tightening occasionally into consideration with this rope, perhaps your ok with that.
      The way I tightened is by unlacing the middle by several rows and then re-lacing. In this clip I laced up the centre by going around all of the centre loops and pulling tight. That is hard to do and puts a bit too much strain on certain parts of rope. So, I have changed that to an easier and more effective way by lacing up two holes at a time and those which are oppposite to one another in the circle. Pull those two opposites tight and then moving around to the next two opposites. This works best and is very easy to do. If it doesn't make sense let me know and I will explain more for you. It is much easier to do with someone helping. My partner and I lay underneath and passed the rope around to each other, so was done in no time.
      2. This rope is super hard to work with as it is very hard on the hands. You will see me a few times with gloves on, however, I ended up working with gloves for 90% of the time. But that may be the case with all rope.
      If your hammock is outside you will want a uv resistant rope that won't stretch, I don't think this rope is uv resistant. That is something I missed, however it seems to be fine as it is under trees.
      If I were to do one for undercover I would find an appropriate natural rope to work with.
      Speak with a local man/woman who sells rope and perhaps get them to compare the pros and cons of different types for what you want it for and how long you want it to last. They may recommend something perfect for you.
      In regards to thickness of rope I decided larger knots may be a little uncomfortable and I also wanted my spaces closer rather than larger, so went for a finer rope? Any more questions just let me know. take care :)

Take into account however, when you go back around for your second row the original space will halve as you will be working through the centre of each space. So first time round perhaps do bigger than you require and the second time will be just right. :)

I recommend you reading my description box and my previous replies to other various comments as I have replied to many questions that may be of use to you before you start. I wish you well on your adventure ahead. :)

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  6 років тому +2

      Hi Emily, Nice to hear from you. For me it took approximately 9 months or so. For you much less. I spent a great deal of time looking out the window at my project. haha The reason being as you see in the beginning I was going to link macrame strands together. That doesn't work! I tried many things that didn't work. :) Then I was given the idea of doing it like a dream catcher. Now that works!. So perhaps if you have a few friends around for dream catcher potluck lunch's maybe a week? Hope that helps. I find however the things that take a little extra time are worth it. xx

    How long did it take you to weave this?

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  Рік тому

      Hi Benjamin, it's a little hard to give a solid answer as I spent quite a bit of time thinking about it, trying one way and then changing tactic, working, property maintenance and so on 😀. So cutting all off that out it goes from months to maybe a couple of weeks a few hours a day? It will depend also on how small the spaces are and how thick your rope is. Have a look in my description box also as I recommend getting a uv safe rope.
      Happy creating. 😊

    what did you did to trampolin legs

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  3 роки тому

      Hi Violeta, I removed the legs. One of the legs was actually broken into one long thin support so I left that one on the high side. Which meant getting on and we had some stability as the base didn't move as the leg was touching the ground. But once on the trampoline our weight wasn't on that one spot and it swung again. It worked for us but removing all legs will work too. :)

I can see them in my email but they aren't showing up in my comment section to reply to. I'm sorry if yours is one that I can't see and respond to. :( I have tried all settings but it hasn't fixed it. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Also can you try your own settings if I don't respond so that they are visible too. thank you and much love to you all.

    I couldn't figure out how to msg you privately. I'm curious on if you now the typle/blend of line you used to make this? A friend shared this to me asking me for help. I am a professional mariner and I'm into this stuff. I'm looking for what you used and found sufficient for private use. Thank you much

      Hi Derek, lovely to hear from you. Please read the description box above where I have shared a little more information. I used 4mm poly rope but don't recommend it. I recommend something uv resistant, that won't stretch and easier on the hands. If you are a professional mariner perhaps you could point us in a right direction for what may fit those requirements and is cheap enough to buy? have a great day.

      Hi Dörte, I'm not so sure where something like this can be bought. It may cost a lot in transportation fees. Perhaps if you use trampoline base with the mat intact and simply place blankets and cushions on top? You can make it beautiful with things that you love and it will be very comfortable. Wishing you well. :)

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  Рік тому

      Hi Gustavo, this bed is approximately 10 to 12 feet across. I recently moved to a different property and apologise for not having exact measurements. I may have to create a new hammock bed by the looks. 😀
      This clip, the bed is on the smaller size.

      So you used 500 meters of paracord aproximately?

    • @jaisrita1212
      @jaisrita1212  Рік тому

      @@GustavoChagui-rd8to Hi Gustavo, yes approximately 500 meters. Try find a source where you can easily return the excess or buy more if you choose to start with less. You could start with slightly bigger spaces than I did at the beginning, as you move to the centre it will condense. Just not too big that a hand or foot could easily go through whilst climbing on I guess. In order to reduce sag in the centre I ended up undoing a bit more of the centre and looping through so I could pull it really really tight. Which means you can get away with less than 500meters. If you are in a place that you could put a thin mattress on top you could have the loops even bigger and could use even less cordage again. ☺ Thanks for asking questions. Have a great day.
