I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Layton during the last election. It was after he had finished speaking and taking questions at a town hall meeting style rally in Thunder Bay. It was only for a couple of minutes, but he seemed like a really nice man. I was going to be starting a new college course within a few months, so he wished me the best of luck in my studies. I believe that he would have destroyed Harper in Parliament had he lived long enough for the opening of parliament. RIP, Jack.
I met him in April 2011. Told him there was *one* Harper program I approved of -- fostering orphaned kittens in 24 Sussex -- and wanted to know if an NDP government would continue with that. He said "Olivia does love cats, but first we'll have to make sure we have enough MPs." G'bye, Jack. Best Prime Minister this country never had.
I miss Jack's presence. He was amazing. There's a bigger issue with strayed cats across the country. Cats multiply every year in millions, and many birds become extinct because of that. Cornwall, ON, is a good example. The Federal Government must invest millions, if not, billions of dollars into programs to neuter/spay all strayed female cats, so we can save the birds.
Tbf, Mulcair did deliver the second best performance of the NDP in history. It just so happened that he had the enormous expectations of Layton to live up to.
A wonderful man who is gone too soon. What I absolutely love about him is that he is sooooo normal. He does not have an iota of pride or arrogance. RIP dear Mr. Layton. 💐🌹💐🌹
Such a friendly, easy going guy. I love how Rick is able to get politicians to relax around him, get them to laugh and simply be themselves. It has always helped remind me that these men and women are people first before they're politicians. And Jack was a great guy. He'll be missed.
I miss Jack. A real charismatic guy who really seemed to honestly care about this country and its people. A real friendly guy, I would have liked to know him personally. But as a citizen I feel that I did know him, he made himself so approachable even in leadership position.
I miss him terribly too... got a black tulipio ( tulip tree)planted out back in his honour. the only politician who was truly a thoughtful, kind man, great listener, hoped to make a difference in all the important things. Loved to be a "cheerleader" too - how many politicians can you say that about ? L Auntie Patti
I'm going to have a spring party - got over 500 Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocus, iris, alliums, etc in this fall - I'll try to get may wine made for it ; )
Ah, I remember watching most of these on RMR. Rest in peace, Jack. From one guitar player to another, as a fellow Canadian and as a youth that strived to become more aware and involved in politics through watching you, thank you. You will forever be missed.
I met Jack for the second time at a rally in Saint John during the federal election. I felt so honoured to meet the the leader of my party and all the inspiration he brought. Second highlight of that rally was Rick Mercer who was as cheeky as ever.
Worse thing about being Canadian and getting old...You get to see true Canadians pass away And abit of Canada with them His talks were never speeches His words never needed a pen and paper ..Thanks for your work jack
"A good man"?! Just ask the ladies of the Velvet Touch about Jack Laydown of the NDP (Nude Democratic Party). Agreed they might have a different thoughts?
Sure miss Jack. He truly gave hope to Canadians. Even from his deathbed his words were inspirational. ""My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world." Jack Layton We could sure use more politicians like Jack today.
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world"- Jack Layton 2011 rest in sweet paradise king.
Oh I can just imagine Jack chuckling in front of the TV when he saw those mock kid commercials of him. Somehow, I'd imagine Stephen breaking a glass over a similar commercial of him.
I voted for his party on the last election because I thought he and his party had a good platform but it's also great to realize he was a really nice guy with a great sense of humor. I think I'm going to miss him more now that I realized he was so good at heart.
With Mulcair as leader, the NDP was running at 40% during the 2015 campaign and would have won if the niqab issue hadn't erupted. Either Mulcair or Layton would have done a much better job as prime minister, compared to Trudeau.
Interesting how Rick interviewed him and the topic of prostate cancer came up. Who would have guessed that, looking back, just how serious it was. I do not spend time thinking about the loss, I spend time thinking about the life.
LOL aw "there's only one thing you're allowed to say." thats the first time i heard him speak cantonese! it is such a difficult language, i have to say I'm so impressed!

the man who should have been king....
+paws mcgraws beautiful, yet heartbreaking comment.
And he would have without a doubt in my heart and soul, been sworn in as our next PM had cancer not taken him, what a shame and loss.
It's just a shame that he represented the WRONG party.

I miss Jack Layton. Utter and absolute gentleman 👏
Jack Layton was awesome! He even made my parents consider voting for the first time. I miss him.
Its staggering to see how far the NDP fell after Layton passed away. Almost like he carried the hopes of the party.
+GhostSpectre thats because he did.
+GhostSpectre I would have totally voted for NDP if Jack Layton is still leader. I only voted for Trudeau because I want Harper no more.

@@johnlampros9061 And also Trudeau kinda stole the show in 2015
Rachel Notley is the best in Alberta. She reminds me of him.

even conservatives respected him. Good man gone too soon
Been conservative my whole life. He was the first person that made me vote non conservative. God I wish he could of been prime minister

I actually met Jack Layton when I was a child in Queen's Park. Such a nice man... RIP sir.
Jack Layton could have been PM if he lived long enough to see the NDP get a majority government after being voted the official opposition...
Teared up a little while watching this...RIP Jack..
Rest in peace Mr. Layton. The Orange will crush again soon.
3:56 “you could be in cabinet with Bob Rae”
Truly it was a different time.

"Kitchen party", one of the most Canadian phrases, ever.
Jack's death has changed this country to its core. We will never be the same.
This was the reason I liked Jack so much because he was just so darn friendly.
The legendary Jack should of been Prime Minister 🧡 miss you Jack 😥
I miss Jack 😢
This makes me want to cry, he was robbed, he should have been PM, but cancer stole him from us too soon
Oh I can just imagine Jack chuckling in front of the TV when he saw those mock kid commercials of him. Somehow, I'd imagine Stephen breaking a glass over a similar commercial of him.

I don't know much about Canadian politics but he seems like a terrific guy our thoughts are with his family.
Rest in peace Jack Layton.
An honest Canadian. Rest in Peace.
If Layton didn’t pass away in 2011 he would of most likely become PM in 2015.
Best prime minister that never was.
Back in the golden days of the NDP. This man never would have drove the party into the ground, the was Tom Mulcair did.
Vasily Lykov why? Because he told the truth in quebec and it pissed them off
With Mulcair as leader, the NDP was running at 40% during the 2015 campaign and would have won if the niqab issue hadn't erupted. Either Mulcair or Layton would have done a much better job as prime minister, compared to Trudeau.
