I didn't vote for Layton, but I gained a ton of respect for him, he turned the NDP from a joke to almost running our country.

@@StallionStudios1234 This was back when the NDP were a real progressive economic populist party - progressive on everything not just social justice issues. Plus Jack Layton was a charismatic leader. I have the greatest respect for Jagmeet Singh, but I think his tendency to get overly political about certain social issues around the country turns off some people.

    • @StallionStudios1234

@@evanshiong3557 Yeah fair enough. I think your right on Jagmeet on getting very political. They are starting to shift their policies now to become more left than the liberals and its starting to attract people with more extreme views as well. Jagmeet within the party actually has the highest approval rating amongst all leaders. I tend to vote more right but I am not a fan of Peter O'Toole by any means, just the same old same old which is very disappointing.

Jack Layton is quoted to have requested to completely shut down the tarsands of which eastern provinces were relying on for "equalization payments". Jack Layton is on record requesting to "be more like Greece, because they're doing some great things" prior to their economic collapse. The NDP now has successfully got the Liberals to ban handguns.... in the exact same way Venezuela did prior to the event of elections still taking place but... "not really". So if you take the blackface/SNC-Lavalin scandal as of late if you think Canada is capable of holding legit elections anymore... I would say that you're delusional. Here we have Trudeau propped up by none other than the NDP freezing the bank accounts of peaceful protestors like they do in actual dictatorships. Locking non-violent protesters and denying them bail while allowing violent offenders like murderers to get bail. This is the NDP you "respect". Accept that for what it is.

@@nc4093 Tell me just ONE thing this narcissist did. The one thing I will never forget (or forgive him for) was when a Catholic member of the NDP from Manitoba based on her religious beliefs wouldn't support gay marriage. Instead of respecting her faith, Layton said if she didn't support gay marriage she would be expelled from the caucus. Unbelievable. He should have been censored or even forced to apologize for this. Layton was in politics for one reason and one reason ONLY--to feed his enormous ego. I found it ironic that when he got to the highest point of his political career (by essentially promising everything to everyone) he was stricken with cancer. And even then when he could have done a public service by telling what he was suffering from (which Alex Trebek shared when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and as he said saved many lives because many people then went for early screening) Layton said he didn't want to discourage people with the same cancer. Absolute baloney---likelihood he was hiding what he had--as to why who knows.

I'm still not old enough to vote, but I have for a while been interested in politics and this year, I was so happy to see what amazing success this man brought to the NDP. Jack Layton was without a doubt the best politician Canada has had in a long time. His character, patriotism, and optimistic spirit has inspired many including myself to not live everyday life in a selfish manner, but to strive to achieve a better Canada, one of equality, one with better environmental policies, one that does what is right and not just for financial gains.
Jack Layton's legacy will forever be remembered by my generation, he gave hope to a new generation. Thank you Jack Layton RIP

True. Unlike a lot of politicians, Jack Layton was actually passionate about these issues his whole life not just when he entered federal politics at age 52. He was a city councillor, and as a professor he did many op-eds on issues like housing, the aids epidemic, clean water, and city garbage. In contrast Tom Mulcair was a career politician for 34 years and was involved in a lot of the political fights.

What a truly inspiring man! This guy is what motivated me to vote last election and I'm so glad to say that I voted NDP. It is so unfortunate that Canada has lost such an incredible leader who would've been the best prime minister our country has ever seen. The silver lining in all of this is that after his death, it seems that more people are starting to wake up and follow this guy. Let's get Harper out of here next election and vote for a real opposition, a real chance at a new future!

Although he never got a chance to live the dream he worked so hard for, he left a legacy to live up to, he probably died happy, still on the high of such a great victory, and surrounded by family.
