    Love from Bangladesh.
    You should definitely try raising Bangladeshi mango trees like Amrupali, lengra, Harivanga, Himsagar etc. These are not better looking mangoes but taste wise these are really awesome. Their brix is also above 20.
    I can confirm you won't be disappointed.

    Do all varieties off Mango,s ripen at the same time or can you stretch your season with using different varieties

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  5 років тому +2

      No, all varieties of mangos do not ripen at the same time. There are early, middle and late season varieties. Some of our earliest varieties can fruit in April and May. Most mangos ripen in June and July. There are a handful of varieties that ripen in August.
      So, yes, you can absolutely stretch out the season by picking different varieties to grow.

    Hi Chris, not that mango trees grow from cuttings, but the technique that you remove leaves about a week prior before harvesting scion wood, do you think that would work when collecting cuttings of plants that can be propagated that way? Or would you just cut and stick?

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 років тому

      I have never grown mangos from cuttings, so I can't answer your question. Sorry.
      Grafting works well for my situation because the rootstock has a tap root, which is very important for windy areas.

    • @OhMiggeee
      @OhMiggeee 7 років тому

      Truly Tropical not pertaining to mangoes specifically, but for the plants you grow from cuttings is there a special way to prepare the propagation stock? I understand some plants don't propagate easily or at all from cuttings but for the plants that should be easy to propagate, I haven't had much success.

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 років тому

      I don't propagate from cuttings, so I can't be of much help.
      In the past, I propagated several plants from cuttings, but those were ornamentals. Some were very easy, and others were rather difficult.
      There's probably a lot of information on the internet about how to propagate the specific plants that you're interested in propagating.
      Good Luck!

    • @OhMiggeee
      @OhMiggeee 7 років тому +1

      Truly Tropical thanks for the quick response, Chris. So for the mango plants you propagate they are mainly seedlings grafted with popular varieties instead of air layers?

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 років тому +1

      Yes. Every mango tree that we sell is grafted.

    So informative. Why not Tommy Akins?
    I just purchased 2 Tommy trees.

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 років тому +2

      Tommy is a very productive variety, and is good in many situations. The varieties that I grow often don't hold up well to handling, but have very unique flavors that my customers enjoy.
      If someone is buying 2 trees, I recommend that they buy two different varieties. Some years are better for some varieties and not for others, and the fruiting season for different varieties can be different.
      Of course you can graft other varieties onto your trees. Grafting is easy to learn and opens a world of opportunities for your trees.

    Why do you dislike the Tommy Atkins, isn't it Floridas most produced mango?

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 років тому +5

      I think it's the #1 commercial variety because it's very productive, ships and handles well, and it attractive. The expression often quoted is that Tommy Atkins growers cry all the way to the bank. They cry because it's not a superior mango, but they make lots of money growing it.

    • @timtebow4775

    Add nutrients to your mango tree...like micrrohizzae....its a nutrient for your tree to produce more fruit. Also fertilize your tree and it will be way more productive.

    • @wolfipaul9971
      @wolfipaul9971 4 роки тому +1

      Mycorrhizae is not a nutrient! Mycorrhizae are particularly important in assisting the host plant with the uptake of phosphorus and nitrogen, two nutrients vital to plant growth. Mycorrhizae actually increase the surface area associated with the plant root, which allows the plant to reach nutrients and water that might not be available otherwise.
