I am a Weld County deputy: Scott Chambers

Next up for our "I am a Weld County deputy" project is Scott Chambers and his K9 partner, Ranger.
Deputy Chambers is one of those guys who's done a little bit of everything in this profession. He began his law enforcement career in 2000 at the Rocky Ford Police Department after serving as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Berthoud. He later returned to serve with Berthoud PD before joining the sheriff's office in 2007.
Deputy Chambers has held numerous positions over the years and is an instructor in nine different peace officer disciplines, but his first love is definitely the K9 Unit.
Deputy Chambers first began working with K9 as a training decoy. In 2010, he was assigned to K9 Dragonn, a dual purpose Belgian Malinois certified in suspect apprehension and narcotics detection. They were assigned to the Patrol Division.
Last year, Deputy Chambers was assigned to K9 Ranger, a single purpose Yellow Lab certified in narcotics. They are assigned to the Weld County Jail.
And did you know the Weld County Sheriff's Office is one of the few agencies in the state to run a K9 program in the Detentions Division? We in the PIO office don't know what other jails are doing it, but the concept is still so new we have K9 handlers from California coming here to learn how we implemented our K9 program in the jail. We think that's pretty cool.
We now have two K9 teams in the jail. We'll introduce you to Deputy Dougherty and K9 Dexter in a couple weeks.

Sad that drugs are being brought in to the jail! Good thing is you guys who work there are doing something about it.

Maybe this sounds crazy but have the dogs sniff every person who comes in to the Weld County Jail and their property too
