Without fail, the Burnout Contest at NHRDA Diesel Nationals is the most anticipated activity at the end. 6 total competitors signed up for the $500 competition and each gave it their all. Winners are determined strictly from decible level of crowd applause at the end of each burnout. While all the entrants put on a great show, the crowd was partial to Charnie Disher's attempt and gave her the most enthusiastic round of applause with 107.7 decibles.

Local as in 1.5 hours away, yes. The event started as "Dyno for Dex" which was a get-together to honor Dex Brown who lost his life in a car accident at a young age. His dream was to have a "national" event in Tulsa. Last year the NHRDA coupled with the D4D (dyno for dex) team to combine the two events and make a great event for all. D4D started as a dyno only at a shop in Tulsa. Last year, in it's fourth season, it was converted into a large event and is now an NHRDA sanctioned race.

but seriously. that's a part of the skill factor if you can control a 1000hp car with wheels spinning at 200kph+ (125mph) and the rear acting as if it were on ice you'll get higher points, resulting in an increased likelihood of winning, you see?

the only time I want to see a burnout is if heating the tires to do a run down the track, or drifting.
If you watch this video closely you will see the guy spraying the tires isn't concistant with the water flow. He starts and stops on other drivers but is always spraying on the red truck.

My guess is that they rigged bleach to the hose to create more traction in turn making more smoke but that may not be true

The water helps to get burn outs started. But they keep spaying I believe to keep the tires cool so don't blow apart. (Insurance)
