      @jothejoker6771 2 роки тому +9

      To start this thread of philosophical and existential debate, I shall pose the first question.
      Q: What do you believe a man is? Do you believe these men in this video fit your definition?

    • @thelostboys5443
      @thelostboys5443  2 роки тому +43

      @@jothejoker6771 what do i think a man is? He would be fit. Not just physically, but morally, and intellectually. So many people today build an identity around their ignorance. The ancient Greek gymnasium was equal parts physical training and mental debate. Today so many men focus on physical fitness (which is certainly a worthy venture) but neglect their minds. He would also be competitive. There is no value in a tame man. You need to be a bit of a monster, otherwise you can't fight for the people who matter most to you. In ancient times this competitiveness manifests in warfare, fighting to take what you desire. I don't see the value in that now adays, but it does have a good substitute in the martial arts. Lincoln and Rosevelt both had wrestling competitions in the oval office. These were men of great intellectual prowess but also physical ability. In short you need to win at things, don't accept mediocrity. When men either reject their competitive nature or can't compete, two things happen. One, they become depressed. When you win at something your brain secretes serotonin. It's the chemical associated with happiness, joy and pride. When you don't win, or even try to win, you grow depressed, this is evidenced in a lot of cases of modern depression. The second thing that happens when you can't win is you try and dominate things that don't need to be dominated. Think about abusive fathers, they could never beat out other men, so they turn that desire to dominate on their family. With that said Men should be good fathers. That doesn't mean they drive a big truck, drink, and chew tobacco, these are all cheap substitutes. Fathers should be equal parts Warrior and Poet. Warriors in the sense of being protective of their family and fighting every day to provide. This connects to the warriors of the past in a metaphorical sense. Poet in the sense of being a nurturing father figure for their kids, and a caring husband for their wives. Tons of men confuse these roles and that's where you get wife beaters. This confusion can arise from a corrupted competitive nature and a broken moral compass. Morals are fairly subjective, but i live by the stoic philosophy. Stoicism is about emotional control; it also guides me on when to be a warrior and when to be a poet. Now to finally answer the second part of your question. do i believe the men in this video fit my definition? No. there is no such thing as a perfect man, with that being said we can learn. Each person featured in the video exemplifies one aspect of the man i have described, the key is to find those aspects and apply them. The physical competitiveness of Achillies, the leadership of Alexander, the mind of Marcus Aurelias, the justice of Saladin, Lincolns morals, and Muhammad Ali's dominance in the ring all teach us something about being men. To reduce the message to "war good and make men strong" misses the point of the video entirely. Sorry if that was a little long winded.

I mean take Atlantis for example: Mythical city of growth and prosperity, but they became ambitious, they became corrupt, conceded in their minds and way too destructive, it may not result in same results and same causes, but the result will be the same. This is where west is heading, a way too destructive path that is beneficial to no one (I dont know you, but i would rather have a single tyrant who is disliked than be part of society of twisted people)

    I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange
    Just know that if it hides, it doesn't go away
    If I get out of bed, you’ll see me standing
    All alone, horrified
    On the stage, my little dark age
    Forgiving who you are for what you stand to gain
    Just know that if you hide, it doesn't go away
    When you get out of bed, don't end up stranded
    Horrified with each stone
    On the stage, my little dark age
    I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange
    You know that if I hide, it doesn't go away
    If I get out of bed, you'll see me standing
    All alone, horrified
    On the stage, my little dark age
    Policemen swear to God, love's seeping from the guns
    I know my friends and I would probably turn and run
    If you get out of bed, come find us heading
    For the bridge, bring a stone
    All the rage, my little dark age
    I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange
    I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away
    If you get out of bed and find me standing
    All alone, open-eyed
    Burn the page, my little dark age

Not only were they soldiers, but they were scholars, healers, and leaders. President Zolenskyy was a compassionate leader and witty comedian, and now he's one of the most stalwart defenders of Ukraine. Do not seek out war, but always be prepared for the coming of hard times.

      @@friedrichnietzsche7376 War, according to the definition by Webster's Dictionary, "A state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations." If we look through the changes war brought through history, we see why war is still commonplace. War in feudal Japan was fought for land. War by the Vikings was for food and general purpose of living. Wars by American Indians was for tribal disputes. War today could even be represented by my reply to your comment. War is a part of us as humans.
      The topics of this video don't fully go into the topics of war. While yes, there were parts of it which showed war (I would like to reference the US Marine Corps in Iwo Jima because I feel this was the most influential to me), it isn't the full topic. The full topic is to embrace all parts of our nature as humans in every field. Mentally, physically and spiritually. As the comment above states, there were scholars, healers, and leaders. In the video there are also references to people close to Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and some Greek/Roman beliefs. Even back to what you said of the commanders. Don't you believe that every field in a person should be challenged? These videos show how humans used to be and embrace them.
      I'm sorry if this is hard to read, English is a terrible language, and I was at Paris Island for a bit this week with a JROTC, so I'm still getting used to a phone keyboard.

      @@cassandraguildernstien I dont like the way you use "war". I think it is healthy to have debates but war is very different. War only causes misery for both sides. And looking at how many wars there have been it's hard to see how it settles anything at all it actually a lot of times only creates reason for pepole to take revenge and start more conflicts. It's paradoxical. That is not something we should "embrace" and "accept" it is something we should avoid.

    If we take away that safety and made them vulnerable to any harm, you'll see a person with strength and knowledge of survivability

    Fredrick the great was gay, but he didn’t go out of his way to cross dress and destroy this body. Instead, he stood against his fathers dislike to his sexuality and made Prussia great. Becoming a strong leader and inspiring his military with glory.
    If your gay and acting like some sissy please, take some notes from history.
