I really like the whole Risen series, especially Risen 3. The combat system is the best of all Piranha Bytes games and the Locations are awesome in Risen 3 ❤
I want to mention one more thing. In previous games you are encouraged to do all faction's missions before joining one of them, in Risen 3 if I understand correctly you have to finish them no matter what so many people finished almost everything without joining a faction. I have just joined the Vodoo Pirates and still have to do other quests so I already have magic etc. The game should give you a sign that you should play this in a different way than other Piranha Bytes games.
I have finished Risen 2 something like 4-5 times and I love this game and Risen 3 so far is great either. The world is beautiful, characters cool, combat system great and different factions well done.
After Risen 1 all Piranha Bytes games focused on the wrong things. This is also why they couldnt properly finish these games either. Instead of fleshing out their own systems and design decisions they pivoted towards generic open world nonsense.
"Long time of waiting is now over!" If you expect the kind of essay I gave you for R2 review... bad luck xd While I greatly appreciate great part of game's ambience (some locations are more breathtaking than ones in Elex!), I think it has overabundace of "edgy" locations: DARK caves, DARK temples, DARK-infested lands, pirate city ravaged by DARK... idk, maybe I have ADHD but I sometimes get fed up with it. Combat... I miss the sword-dueling feel of Risen 2 but if it's necessary sacrifice to make group fights any bearable, I'll take it. I'd be more than happy by the system... if not for the half-charge strategy. The power-creep you described starts for me as soon as tutorial shows power attack. And as opposed to roll-twice-to-trigger-chase-routine-trick you showed in previous review, it utilizes the same controls you would use unbeknownst to the technique so I'm physically unable to remove it from my muscle memory. Long story short, I'm forever cursed to play Risen 3 in "very f easy". If you are hungry for opportunity to get personally attached to story and characters: you're in luck, Elex has loads of it and then some more! Is the music on loop a throwback to the fact the game puts the same track on half the cutscenes? xd This game would make a fascinating case study. It's hilarous, mind-blowing and saddening at the same time to notice how CLOSE this game was to become PB's new magnum opus. Your videos on Risen 2 got me thinking: what kind of game would that make if its every aspect was finished, fine-tuned and well playtested. What I ended up after that year-and-a-half was 300+ lines .txt file with all kinds of bug fixes, balance changes, QoL features and many more. I did the same thing for Risen 2 but changes I came up with were much more radical and would still make a worse gameplay than Risen 3, even in current form. If you want to see these files, just let me know 'cos I'll need to translate them. You may ask why won't I just start making a mod. The answer comes with Nate Bonette's Real Enchanced Edition. Guy made a mod with currently existing tools and changed pretty much everything he was able to, without minding if his changes IMPROVE anything. So we have permanent potions which don't increase attributes, Potion of Will that grands you glory (you will be buying all eyeballs you can just to brew more of those), enemies that gives you next to NONE glory, armor that makes you immortal (Warrior's armor gives you Bladeproof twice instead of Bladeproof and Bulletproof so you end up with 200+ Bladeproof so you take 0 damage from melee, you even stop flinching) and much more "goodies". Then Nate announced REE 2.0 beta, disappeared from Internet for 4 years only to claim the project discontinued, without any explaination. Goddammit So with current tools I can't anything of value. My best hope would be to try and deassamble game's executable and I'm gonna wait with that until I get more programming experience
I wonder how much you'd be able to fix with modding anyway. Whatever other issues the game might have, once you reach Chapter 4 the entire quality of the game just takes a plummet. It's like out of a sudden they only had 1 week to finish the game and they took all the shortcuts to make that happen. With other games like Gothic 2 or Skyrim, the base game and story are good so any modding you can do to fix some of the bugs or issues only stands to enhance what's already existing. But with Risen 3, I think the game is sabotaged and doomed to fail once it hits the final chapter. If at least it had great modding tools to allow you to create your own content, that would be something, but it remains what it is. A disappointment of unrealized potential.
@@leontiesh Yeah, mods won't fix things like that. TBH it didn't bother me that much since I always stall joining a faction for as long as possible so I get better content density on 3. chapter. Or it just doesn't bother me as bad as you, hell if I know

Finally, I've waited over a year for this video and it did not disappoint! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Sorry for the long wait :P

Have you played risen 1?
@@AksamRafiz Only a little bit. Risen 2 is my favorite part.
@@michadomeracki5910 risen 1 was the best, it's unfortunate that's not the case for you

the only review that does risen 3 justice!
cheers!
does anyone know if they are planning a Risen 4?
don't get your hopes up, PB is heavy on trilogies
I bought this game cheap. Tried it for 30 minutes but couldn't get into it. Might give it another try. At least get past the opening area.
