@@ObristPlayep WG announced this months ago so there has been plenty of time to flag up and farm free xp. You can certainly farm 1m free xp in the span of a few months if you are determined to do it. I've been playing very casually for 5 years and I'm sitting on a few mil free xp.

I was thinking about that too. come and think of it, it makes sense, Alaska is almost like a BB, that is not build for CQ fight like Des Moines, so a 10km radar is less useful because Alaska is better engaging beyond 15km. a spotter plane will just extend that heavy HE/AP.

@@sweetpoison5341 One of best BB´s in this game (the one we are no able to get for a long time except through satan crates with dubloons spent and gambling) is T9 Missouri, the only BB equipped with radar. And what is good on radar on BB? You cannot be suprised with DDs, at least not for long. 42s radar on Alaska is extremely usefull right due to availability of spotting everything no matter what in 10 km circle around, which is the range of (almost?) every DD´s torp range at her tier and of most from the T10. If you encounter something like Friesland, Smolensk, Kitakaze ... it can smoke up (or be smoked up) 8 km from you, lob HE shell over your island cover and burn you down, and everything you can do about is precisely nothing - if you are not having radar, which is a big gamechanger and pumping HE/AP to any said ship suddenly turns the tide. I know how carefull I needed to be with Stalingrads in my Shima in ranked - 12km radar vs. 12km torps was a game you need to play well. One single radar enlightment is enough to kill a DD with focus fire from your team. Problem with non-radar Alaska is not having a selfdefense against DD, but also in your teammates partly expecting you to have one to help your team, that´s why it is a good slowly pushing cruiser. As PQ said - less cruisers and more BBs and DDs -> you can counter both in this ship, trading more damage for less team-ability performance seems therefore a little selfish and I agree with Lubos here. Of course there is a "bimbo" going round the ship, so when you see enemy Alaska in a DD, you stay away as much as possible because it usually HAS radar, no matter if it uses it (or even has it) or not :D
@@lubossoltes321 I cannot think of one time that I have run with or against a spotter plane Alaska. On a side note, I always find it amusing when I run against a radar Neptune or Mino in random. Once the shock wears off, they disappear from the map because the team realizes easy citadels are available. I bet DDs might feel similarly if they saw a spotter plane Alaska.
Playing her a lot recently during the grand battles and having a lot of fun. You can farm BBs and hunt DDs who try to farm your own BBs at the same time. Alaska hits hard, is quite tanky, has great gimmicks, makes good money and is georgious to look at. The perfect heavy cruiser.

Really great video, I bought the Alaska and was very confused how to play it because it feels like a light BB. But this video explains very well what it is and what it does. I dont feel so stupid now for owning this ship.
As a player who did the xp grind the Alaska was worth the time. Besides the large HP and great guns the best thing I like is its speed. The speed and other attributes as mentioned make this ship the most forgiving ship to play as it can get you out of trouble if needs be. On play style I play mine aggressively as speed and positioning does kill (both ways) but handled correctly it can cause havoc against your opponent. Its the classic battlecrusier.
youre a pro, and your cap build reflects that. i would never build my cap like that, my brain just says no, that wont work with me. but it does work for you and thats amazing.
I do have to take issue with the idea that the Alaska is scary to fight with other cruisers. Without access to FP or BoS, there is not a single ship type in the game more vulnerable to HE spam than the large cruisers, and while the improved auto bounce angles are nice, the Alaska lacks the ability to overmatch most other Tier 9 cruisers. An Alaska is never to going to out trade a "traditional" cruiser like a Saint Louis with HE, and has to rely on getting lucky with AP and/or having the Saint Louis make a major mistake to win the fight. *Granted most players in random battles aren't that good so it's not an issue, but from the perspective of having to fight against an Alaska with another cruiser, I simply don't see it as a threat.
@@ultravires7747 How is this relevant to my comment about how a well played Saint Louis can comfortably farm down an Alaska? From a Saint Loui's perspective an Alaska is functionally just a BB without overmatch or FP skills (aka free damage), unless it misplays and gives too much broadside to the Alaska's AP. The Saint Louis has superior base DPM, better dispersion, access to MBRB and takes half as much fire damage, which means it easily wins the HE trade....on top of having superior mobility which means it also has an easier time dodging.
Maybe I have to give Alaska another shot. Currently looking into the build after the patch, I really hate burning down in supercruisers. Regarding the range BBs and players in general stay now, I even had to go back to range mod DM... BTW, watched the two games on stream, kinda fun to see your thought on these too! Big Fan.
To be fair, even the late-Tier US BBs play better if you think of them as Cruisers, especially since you can get citadeled so easily. The weird exception being the NC, that just has so much frontal Citadel armor that you can just bow-tank shots in it, even when they pen the nose. Still can get fire-bombed to death though, but then again, that's valid for most ships.
just won a game probably one of my best playing the Alaska.we had all thre caps early and dominated the points till everyone tried to win harder.ended with me soslo against 4 enemy,managed to keep them at bay and take one out, Dreadnought and game.wouldbe hard pushed to thinkof another ship as capable.you#vedescribed the vessel spot on.
I agree with PQ in this. people are all focusing on Deadeye like it's the only thing that gets updated. Cruisers are actually got buffed in more than one way too. both in reload and damage.
Nuking unsuspecting minos in one salvo is so satisfying. 6 ap shells were able to finish off a mino on full health, and they're always just sitting broadside in their smoke waiting to get radared
Awesome advise. Island camping for cruisers as only viable game play if you have the arcs for it in the first place. So exciting to spend your time with. So, we have now DE BBs that are camping and CL/CA that are camping because everything else is simply throwing your ship away. Now WG can finally implement SS because the middle of the map is empty besides the occasional DD. I say, now is the best time to improve your CV game play.
I agree with you, i found myself liking cruisers more. They seem, to me, to have been given the better end of this. Been playing the PR like this as well, massive dmg and decent accuracy now
Alaska is like a good ol AK47 to me. Been there for ages. Got lost in all the gimmicks but every now and then I put Halsey back to her and have a blast (no pun intended) every time. She just works. A truly pocket battleship.
You can play using islands (but I do not recomend it because if your flank fall you can't disengage and you die) or play on open sea kajt and burn everyone, keep good angle and over 100k dmg is no problem. Best t9 cruiser.And In a first 5 min you can have 50k dmg already almost every shot is a burn,you can tank everythig just keep 17km range. Islands no needed ;)
Would love to see your opinion on the Puerto Rico if you have it. I am finally getting around to unlocking Halsey and have been going back and forth between Alaska and PR to grind out the missions. Thanks for the vids!
In this meta kronshtadt fits in more because of its fast AP and busted armor. Sadly the deck is poor and US BBs with deadeye trash you. Its fun citadeling cruisers at long range
@@x3ni487 standard , but due to very good pen any way faster shells than Alaska , you can still citadel plenty of targets. Also Kron got SICK amount of HP almost 10k more than Alaska and it is also hard to citdel. So still very nice Large Cruiser.
Let me make a case of cruisers being actually strong ships: Just look at the last clan brawls. T8 with 2 battleships max. usually teams had 2BB, 3-4 Cruisers, 1-2 Destroyers. And it was the cruisers doing the heavy lifting. This might be even a suprise. At most the cruisers (like baltimore) have 27mm plating, most of them has less. That means any 406mm ship overmatches their armor basicly all around the ships. And almost all commonly played battleships (NC, massa, lenin, vladi) have that caliber or more. So they get thrown in a setting where their armor gets overmatched 100% by every battleship in the game. Still you did not see cruisers getting dev-struck day in and day out. While going up in rank, you also increasingly saw lenin or even roma. We picked those ships aswell, for the sole reason of 45mm deck armor wich cant even be penetrated by an IFHE baltimor. We just took it to reduce the cruisers damage output, because its so damn high. It was even worth the trade to lose some range for crossfiring on BBs, just to make them weather the storm of HE-slinging cruisers. Thats because in the brawl, the cruisers actually do, what PQ says here: Work with island. Stay in hard cover, or at least close to it. So even if you suffer a slapp through the nose, you can disengage and not get finished of to easily. A Battleship cant reliably kill a cruiser, if he knows his place on the map. So cruiserplay worked out just fine, and the cruisers were able to dish out loads of damage. Due to that fact, and the cruisers having the radars, they were pretty much key to the game. If you kill the enemy cruisers you free areas of the map for your Destroyers. If you lose cruisers, you lose DPM to fight the battleships and lose mapcontrol so the enemy DDs can really start using their torps and spotting advantage. To me the main difference is: - In normal battles there are more battleships at more angles and its harder to escape them - Even if in a clear T8 match all battleships overmatch already you, its still way worse to play T10 BBs since their alpha is way higher, their accuracy aswell. So the brawls just made it easier to play the cruisers in the way they should be played in normal games aswell.
what you did not consider is the fact that cruisers got nerf by the simple fact that BBs are more accurate and have higher chances to land more shells on a cruiser.
The AP in this ship is no joke either. This ship gives PR the run for the money and that's a t10 ship. The only thing for me is to get use to what all American ship have, is those floaty shell arcs, specially I'm use to soviet rail guns. DD's are also scared of this ship.
The Alaska is a brute. Have to be honest I favour the AP on it. Probably my favourite cruiser in the game. Definitely good using islands for the push, horrible for DDs, bosses most cruisers and can do serious damage to BBs. Best take all comers ship for me.
Yeah, I hate this thing .. It's more or less been the bane of my existence as a German BB player, I don't run into it often, but when I to it's either spamming HE from behind an island, or heavily angled trying to slap me with AP. It's just a ship where my guns are too small to seriously punish it if angled, I can't exactly turn away from without giving it broadside, and if I do, I normally pay for it slightly and even than it will just slowly kite away spamming me with accurate HE as my guns just become more useless as I try to disengage. It was honestly the 1 ship I hated to find behind an island randomly in my Gneisenau, not to bad in the Bismarck ... they generally try to avoid you but my lord in the Gneisenau it made my feel like a cruiser.
An Alaska with spotter plane and AA and not radar and hydro. This is new. Let me not refer to the fact that in the first game there is no CV in game and that is the only reason one could park a cruiser behind an island and farm.
Been playing the Alaska to finish cruiser directives and it has been a lot of fun. Plying with diff builds, but I kinda thinking concealment is best so not to get stuck nose in. Strong ship?
War gaming has a ton of wallpapers on their site. This is one of them. The "Alaska" text was added by Potato Quality and is using some combination of photoshop filters to achieve the hollow drop shadow effect. (I don't actually know but I'm a graphic designer, so that's my guess)
really on the fence with buying it or not. i want to love cruisers in general but im just terrible in them. pre 10.0 people used to say how powerful the Zao is and seriously, i do so badly in her. more times devastated than i could count, its like im a soap bubble waiting to get popped.
Alaska is really good. Tanky as hell, don't think I have ever been deleted in one volley even side on to a yama. Guns are brutal, maneuvers well, radar and hydro. Best all rounder in the game. Literally the only cruiser I play now and I have a lot of TX.
Your assessment on the Alaska is wrong. You can push hard and fast (that’s what she said) in the beginning of matches. Surrounding yourself around ships that can support you is a benefit you as well.
I am wondering how is the situation now with the Puerto Rico compared to Alaska? I got the Alaska black and the Puerto Rico and not sure which of them to use since I am a bit tired using my American bbs.
to that build: i thought you dont like the HE Spam? and what is the reason to play a cruiser whithout radar and worse concealment as a brit BB? A Lion can do the same just better
I got both Alaskas. First day I played it, got spotte by sky cancer, got shot by some Thunderer for 2 fires. 30 secs later, I had 4 fires, almost dying. I quit the match right there and never played it again. In fact, after completing the Hizen, I am gonna take a long break, see how slowly WG fixes this mess, but I'll most likely dump the game for good.
How do you get the Navigator mod UI offset on the screen? In my game it sits square in the middle of the screen below the crosshair center and I can't seem to drag it.

Interesting, but the two collisions that occurred in the second game you should talk about! You were the cause ultimately by being unaware what your team mate was doing. The rest of the game great analysis.
@@awathompson although that's true, I'm not sure if you're aware what PQ was doing. First collision has no impact on the game PQ knew this when he made the decision. This allowed him to position more quickly. Second collision was with his div mate and allowed PQ to stop more quickly while having no impact on his mate. New players exaggerate the importance of collisions, and often times make a big deal of it in-game, making it pretty easy to spot inexperienced players
@@onemileperhour I could see the collision was going to occur as soon as PQ start accelerating forward give the KG5 no room to maneuver. Not saying I have not done the same thing. If Blue on Blue collision did the same damage as Blue on Red player would be more aware.
The armour of the Alaska is pretty bad, you really need to play it like a ship made out of paper. As a credit maker, the Alaska is overall not suited for Coop. Yes i had nearly 160K damage games. Yet they are rare. Great ship funky citadel shots overall 10K broadside salvo's but paper paper paper yup canons also.
I remember when Riga was just released and I had to fight it with my Alaska. The Riga kept spamming ''WHY NO CIT'' in the chat. Probably didnt know that Alaska citadel is hard to hit.
IMO, Alaska and agir are mutch worse, super cruiser that Camp behind island ? If she s cruiser then schould have fire duration like other cruiser. Azuma with her armor ok Camp is only way that could work. But bb are camping now cruisers Camp and brawlers also Camp? Before rework i play those ships on close distance now im forced to camp avoid dd, CV, cruisers , bb secondaries that put me more fires than I with 30% chance. IMO now only pros on this ship is armor. And about cruisers its hard to play if bb has better camo and laser guns that punish u whenever u get spot, and to get good profit form skill u have no any camo. Pietro is fine, riga also, HE spaming on hipper also work sometimes if nobody focus on u and u can kiting. Thats my opinion

What has happened to World Of Warships in the last two weeks? Over here on the European server teams are getting completely wiped out in most matches and some days is nearly EVERY battle in a matter of minutes. Sometimes it's 12-0. A complete spanking. This is every day and all the time. 'Good' matches and well-fought ones are now rare. This is as well as the CV bullshit, relentless HE Spam and torpedoes added to the nonsense ships like Smolensk, Thunderer et al. This game is broken. It SERIOUSLY needs fixing. I've been playing WoWs for three years but when my current premium time runs out , in about a month or so I won't be playing this game any more or at least for a LONG time. Put simply; this game is unplayable now.
Best probably subjective topic I think alaska I am finding is not this good, Asian WG is different from EU this ship is just lower grade stalingrad, bunch of he BB will sink this ship not even joking.

Long range crusiers are fine with the patch. However, IJN and US cruisers below t9 is a pain, those with sub 16km range....

In this meta kronshtadt fits in more because of its fast AP and busted armor. Sadly the deck is poor and US BBs with deadeye trash you. Its fun citadeling cruisers at long range

@@x3ni487 standard , but due to very good pen any way faster shells than Alaska , you can still citadel plenty of targets. Also Kron got SICK amount of HP almost 10k more than Alaska and it is also hard to citdel. So still very nice Large Cruiser.
Let me make a case of cruisers being actually strong ships:
Just look at the last clan brawls. T8 with 2 battleships max. usually teams had 2BB, 3-4 Cruisers, 1-2 Destroyers. And it was the cruisers doing the heavy lifting.
This might be even a suprise. At most the cruisers (like baltimore) have 27mm plating, most of them has less. That means any 406mm ship overmatches their armor basicly all around the ships. And almost all commonly played battleships (NC, massa, lenin, vladi) have that caliber or more. So they get thrown in a setting where their armor gets overmatched 100% by every battleship in the game. Still you did not see cruisers getting dev-struck day in and day out.
While going up in rank, you also increasingly saw lenin or even roma. We picked those ships aswell, for the sole reason of 45mm deck armor wich cant even be penetrated by an IFHE baltimor. We just took it to reduce the cruisers damage output, because its so damn high. It was even worth the trade to lose some range for crossfiring on BBs, just to make them weather the storm of HE-slinging cruisers.
Thats because in the brawl, the cruisers actually do, what PQ says here: Work with island. Stay in hard cover, or at least close to it. So even if you suffer a slapp through the nose, you can disengage and not get finished of to easily. A Battleship cant reliably kill a cruiser, if he knows his place on the map.
So cruiserplay worked out just fine, and the cruisers were able to dish out loads of damage. Due to that fact, and the cruisers having the radars, they were pretty much key to the game. If you kill the enemy cruisers you free areas of the map for your Destroyers. If you lose cruisers, you lose DPM to fight the battleships and lose mapcontrol so the enemy DDs can really start using their torps and spotting advantage.
To me the main difference is:
- In normal battles there are more battleships at more angles and its harder to escape them
- Even if in a clear T8 match all battleships overmatch already you, its still way worse to play T10 BBs since their alpha is way higher, their accuracy aswell.
So the brawls just made it easier to play the cruisers in the way they should be played in normal games aswell.
what you did not consider is the fact that cruisers got nerf by the simple fact that BBs are more accurate and have higher chances to land more shells on a cruiser.
The AP in this ship is no joke either. This ship gives PR the run for the money and that's a t10 ship. The only thing for me is to get use to what all American ship have, is those floaty shell arcs, specially I'm use to soviet rail guns. DD's are also scared of this ship.

The Alaska is a brute. Have to be honest I favour the AP on it. Probably my favourite cruiser in the game. Definitely good using islands for the push, horrible for DDs, bosses most cruisers and can do serious damage to BBs. Best take all comers ship for me.
Yeah, I hate this thing .. It's more or less been the bane of my existence as a German BB player, I don't run into it often, but when I to it's either spamming HE from behind an island, or heavily angled trying to slap me with AP. It's just a ship where my guns are too small to seriously punish it if angled, I can't exactly turn away from without giving it broadside, and if I do, I normally pay for it slightly and even than it will just slowly kite away spamming me with accurate HE as my guns just become more useless as I try to disengage.
It was honestly the 1 ship I hated to find behind an island randomly in my Gneisenau, not to bad in the Bismarck ... they generally try to avoid you but my lord in the Gneisenau it made my feel like a cruiser.
Wonder if this will be made available ever again. Buffalo was not a fun experience and I wish I had a good T IX cruiser

Let me not refer to the fact that in the first game there is no CV in game and that is the only reason one could park a cruiser behind an island and farm.

Been playing the Alaska to finish cruiser directives and it has been a lot of fun. Plying with diff builds, but I kinda thinking concealment is best so not to get stuck nose in. Strong ship?

War gaming has a ton of wallpapers on their site. This is one of them. The "Alaska" text was added by Potato Quality and is using some combination of photoshop filters to achieve the hollow drop shadow effect. (I don't actually know but I'm a graphic designer, so that's my guess)

Alaska is really good. Tanky as hell, don't think I have ever been deleted in one volley even side on to a yama. Guns are brutal, maneuvers well, radar and hydro. Best all rounder in the game. Literally the only cruiser I play now and I have a lot of TX.
Your assessment on the Alaska is wrong. You can push hard and fast (that’s what she said) in the beginning of matches. Surrounding yourself around ships that can support you is a benefit you as well.
I am wondering how is the situation now with the Puerto Rico compared to Alaska? I got the Alaska black and the Puerto Rico and not sure which of them to use since I am a bit tired using my American bbs.

Can you try Mogami in this patch, I find it hard to play with Mogami right now because of its squishiness and short range.

I got both Alaskas. First day I played it, got spotte by sky cancer, got shot by some Thunderer for 2 fires. 30 secs later, I had 4 fires, almost dying. I quit the match right there and never played it again. In fact, after completing the Hizen, I am gonna take a long break, see how slowly WG fixes this mess, but I'll most likely dump the game for good.

@@awathompson although that's true, I'm not sure if you're aware what PQ was doing. First collision has no impact on the game PQ knew this when he made the decision. This allowed him to position more quickly. Second collision was with his div mate and allowed PQ to stop more quickly while having no impact on his mate. New players exaggerate the importance of collisions, and often times make a big deal of it in-game, making it pretty easy to spot inexperienced players
@@onemileperhour I could see the collision was going to occur as soon as PQ start accelerating forward give the KG5 no room to maneuver. Not saying I have not done the same thing. If Blue on Blue collision did the same damage as Blue on Red player would be more aware.

The armour of the Alaska is pretty bad, you really need to play it like a ship made out of paper. As a credit maker, the Alaska is overall not suited for Coop. Yes i had nearly 160K damage games. Yet they are rare. Great ship funky citadel shots overall 10K broadside salvo's but paper paper paper yup canons also.

I remember when Riga was just released and I had to fight it with my Alaska. The Riga kept spamming ''WHY NO CIT'' in the chat. Probably didnt know that Alaska citadel is hard to hit.
I remember on Riga release I farmed them for cits with Alaska
I ran into Riga first when it was in Supertest - that was a scary ship. Good thing it got balanced somewhat to "normal russian" level. :D

IMO, Alaska and agir are mutch worse, super cruiser that Camp behind island ? If she s cruiser then schould have fire duration like other cruiser. Azuma with her armor ok Camp is only way that could work. But bb are camping now cruisers Camp and brawlers also Camp? Before rework i play those ships on close distance now im forced to camp avoid dd, CV, cruisers , bb secondaries that put me more fires than I with 30% chance. IMO now only pros on this ship is armor. And about cruisers its hard to play if bb has better camo and laser guns that punish u whenever u get spot, and to get good profit form skill u have no any camo. Pietro is fine, riga also, HE spaming on hipper also work sometimes if nobody focus on u and u can kiting. Thats my opinion
