  • I found this locomotive in a hobby shop in Pennsylvania while on vacation and just had to have it! These Atlas engines run like Swiss watches. I’ll shuffle a few cars and show y’all how a small layout like this can provide a solid little operating session. No editing or music, just running a train on a lazy afternoon.

My son and I drive past East Penn GP38s almost every day on his way to school! These Atlas HO versions are really a rare find - my son would die for one if you ever wanted to pare down the collection 😉

Great layout for some leisurely switching. I really like the fall trees, and in fact you've inspired me to get some fall trees myself.

Adding a derail would add realism for sure. Also consider the extra detail of blue flag protection for the cars that are spotted. This industry looks similar to a customer we service where I work.

As someone new to the hobby I have to admit your work is superb! I will confess however that while your Farmrail layout is a work of art, I keep finding this little East Penn particularly capitvating. Something about less space always seems to add more of a challenge in building and operating. Looking forward to more! Great lighting, editing, and a nice voice to go with it.

Awesome layout! I grew up seeing East penn back when they used old GEs regularly and I think you capture the feel very well!

Atlas loco in general are great problem free out-of-the-box. Great ops video and weathering as well. Great glass holder :) Cool video.

That new locomotive is a great addition to your layout. Atlas makes some smooth running locomotives. Yep, gotta change out those couplers! I enjoyed the informal ops session, it is a great way to spend a little time unwinding at the end of the day.-Tom

Great ops...You should have a few extra choices of horns if that is an Atlas Gold. Just a matter of changing a CV on your controller. Thanks for sharing 👍

Good find, looks like that was some kind of uncatalogued run or custom paint job as I couldn't find it on atlas's master loco archive.

Well done. More please. Also, how's the baby? 1st Cav, huh? Could be worse, I guess. (j/k, ex-Navy here)

What are the overall dimensions of this layout? I am planning to do something similar and would be interested in picking your brain.

How do you decide what to spot and move? That’s my biggest issue is trying to plan a session that’s prototypical and takes a little time without “giving myself the answers” or making it too easy. Thanks

What are you using for a camera? iPhone? The whole scene is so in focus. Struggling with the focus on my DSLR.

Yep, just using an iPhone on a cheap tripod. Works great!

@@alexbogaski you inspired me to finally try a smartphone for video. Didn’t have the tripod mount at the time of shooting but I do now. Check it out, and subscribe if you like it. Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/gMDwD13rHY4/v-deo.html
