HAPPY EUROPE DAY 🇪🇺🇪🇺
Same!
Your channel is great, keep telling the truth, it's the best you can do!
Happy European Day from someone living in the USA but I greatly Europe and the European people.
I think, i don't know a better EU/Europe critic on youtube. Well made, fitting video.
Happy Europe Day.
FYI!!
You don't understand how great Europe is until you decide to travel outside Europe.
Facts
Very very true
usa better than europe
@@pejuangyutub6703 That's your opinion. Either you are a European or just an American which waving is that ugly flag in our face again, it's subjective. That is why Europe is so great, we tolerate these kinds of opinions.
China's infrastructure, especially tier-1 cities, is better than Europe. And the city is safer.
If this channel hated or didn’t care for Europe, it wouldn’t exist. Bringing Europe’s problems to light in an unbiased levelheaded way is the only way to deal with them.
Happy Europe Day from America. 🇺🇸
I couldn't agree more. You don't improve condition of any society by ignoring its issues and talking about how awesome everything is.

And the same goes for our own republic. We need more levelheaded public discussions to deal with all we face - both on and between continents.
Happy Europe Day from across the pond. 🇺🇸

For the first time in all of history, the European nations are united in peace, and that is just a few decades after being the theater of the bloodiest war in human history. It's easy to take things for granted but we should remind ourselves of how we live in prosperous times.

As someone that grew up in the USA, I'm incredibly grateful that Europe exists, and is open to skilled workers/students like me. It's everything I've ever wanted that the US could never provide in terms of city design, public transit, policy etc. I look forward to growing old here, while contributing to the economy and trying to integrate as much as possible.
As an American also in Europe, I agree I’m happy to contribute my part and live here :)
Welcome!
The thing I found is that when most of a country's citizens **criticize** their country, then the country is doing well.
Yes Europe is great 🥰🥰🥰🥰. I love living in the EU.
Thank you for this video. It's high time we focused on the positives and what we can accomplish together in Europe.
We must not take valid criticism as an insult, we should see it as an opportunity to improve our continent even more.
I don't live in Europe, but I certainly do love the continent, its many cultures, the sites I've seen, the ones I'm still aching to see, the marvels of what the European Union has accomplished, and so many other things about Europe… and I thoroughly enjoy your channel and your content, how you approach and bring such complex topics to the forefront, shining various shades of light where they need to be shone, because there's valid criticism to be made, however great Europe may be, if we want it to continue improving, so I really can't fathom why you'd be labeled as any of those hateful things! Man, we really need to grow thicker skin as a society, and learn how to have real, thought-inducing debate without shying away from complex realities and running to the false safety of derogatory label hurling, which solves nothing. Happy Europe Day!
As a person with a Chinese lineage living in Japan, learning about Europe and how its countries and regions have overcome various barriers/borders to form a unified yet highly diverse identity has planted an idea of a single East Asian identity deep inside me.
I can talk about how envious I am of Europeans for hours. In Asia (and I'm sure also pretty much all of the world except for Europe and its colony nations such as the US), ever since we came under the pressure to modernize at around 19-20th century, when we studied foreign books or ideas, that "foreign" only meant European. Despite the heavy geographical and historical connections between different East Asian countries, I feel like we've become so fixated on this idea of catching up the West that we've forgotten to properly look at each other, and now the biggest thing characterizing East Asian international sentiment is mutual hate.
It's not all bad though, if it was I wouldn't be able to hold this identity for too long. Past several decades of successive economic miracles and liberalizations, first in South Korea (1980s), then in Taiwan (1990s), and finally in China (2000s), have completely transformed economic and cultural dynamics of this region. Where it used to be only Japan and HongKong that had any international significance here until 1980s, now we have KPOP, Korean and Taiwanese electronics, and a Chinese economic domination in every sector. I vividly dream of a day when the remnants of Japanese colonialism, communist illiberal political systems, isolated bilateral dependence on the US can all be put in our museums and replaced by post-colonial, liberal democratic, multilateral alliances, and we can finally appreciate how similar yet wonderfully different we are.
I'm sure we'll get there some day. Happy Europe Day from East Asia!
But if we mix how we could remain diverse? It is only going to homogenize any difference that existed
China-much like Japan-depends on the US trade as well. And unlike Chinese, Japan has a favorable view of Americans. Unlike the raw hatred the Chinese have for us. Quit being anti American on an American made platform pls
Thanks!

Interesting how Europe magically ends on the Memel river, only to magically reappear down south. The Maritsa is also a rather interesting choice of frontier. Lived in europe for 14 months. Everything is picturesque and accountability is more visible. Where I come from people just turn a blind eye at blatant corruption... would even vote for children of dictators and treats politicians like movie stars. Europe is so great most especially if you've experienced living outside of it
Europe is the greatest continent by ALL metrics. We need to protect it at all costs.
I was definitely thinking of commenting the other day that I didnt really like how negative your channel often is.
Europeans love complaining about Europe because they wish it was even better, and Americans love shitting on Europe because they’re afraid that it might actually be a better place to live.
So while it’s good to talk about the negatives, I also think it’s important to be careful about not contributing too much to some sort of anti-europe negativity bias that’s so common on the internet these days.
Europe is to enjoy life, the US is for highly ambitious people.
We don't actually shit on Europe that much. We have an entire political party who's position is basically to be like Europe. In contrast, all major political parties treat the word "american" as pejorative in describing a policy in Europe. The resentment from Europeans is pretty one directional and pervasive, showing up in the most random places like in board games referring to a genre as Ameritrash. Why this hatred is so consistent is something you should think about.
@@Carthodon
Most Americans and Europeans either don't care about each others or fantasize about each others.
The minority that actually hate each others, are just stupid losers needing attention. There is literally no reasons to hate each others.
Americans like it that way so let them but most don’t understand that the eu is a economic bloc a lot of them think the eu rules everything and that isn’t correct, there’s also some Europeans that give the usa sht on stupid stuff.
We can compete with the USA but eu nations would need to give up some sovereignty and that will never happen especially with Russia infiltrated promoting anti eu sentiment.
Tldr:USA mentality is different from eu mentality.
@@santostv. So I remember when I was in England in 2016 right after they voted to leave, and was surprised when the students I talked to said the UK wasn't a nation (or maybe a country? don't quite remember) but instead 4 nations which shared one government.
Now I recognize that there is a definition of nation being used here, but for most people it absolutely does not matter. If the EU becomes like the UK then it also would not matter to anyone outside of the EU, what would ultimately matter is who do you contact if you are a foreign government trying to engage in foreign policy, who holds the reigns of power?
It's absolutely true that currently that power is with the heads of state of the various countries. But what is weird to me is that it is incredibly obvious that the people running the EU want to make it one country, that they have been since the 90s, and that anyone outside the EU was both aware of this and completely unsurprised the direction it has gone than people who live within it.
As a fellow European who doesn't consider one particular nation his home but the whole union thank you for your videos!
It is very funny to me that the pro Euope video is only a few minutes short :)
While the problem videos are much longer 😂
Each of you make Europe awesome! Happy Europe Day everybody! ❤😄🎉🇪🇺
Europe has a lot on its plate. I think there are good times ahead for Europe, but competing with the USA and China will be very hard without reform and optimizing what the Union should be, whatever this may be.
❤ thank you
I love Europe
That is why I criticise it, so we can make it better
I'm currently reading "De hominis dignitate" by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and it's brilliant not only for its content but also for the accessible and even modern style of writing Mirandola has in 1486! Every European should have read this - btw it's not at all lengthy, even though it's a monument to European humanism.
Europe IS great. Trying to make it better is a good thing.
Europe may not be no 1 from an economic perspective, but it will always be no 1 in quality of life.
As the youtuber, Dr Ludwig once said: every man has 3 cultural identities: regional, national and civilizational.
I am by region, Moldavian, by nation Romanian and by civilization, European. And im proud of all three identities equally.
And i hope yall are too. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your culture just as long as you let others be who they want to be and respect their decisions and merits (and criticise their fllaws).
🇪🇺Happy Europe day. 🇪🇺

Europe is Europe. It is truely beautiful in its rich history and the ways its trying to improve each and everyday! Europe is like many other continents and countries, with its trials and tribulations, mistakes and greviences. Their mistakes are no different. However, I personally have never seen a continent ravenged by war and fueds to a now a a big economic power house rivaling (or trying to) with the US, Russia, and / or China. Likewise, I have never seen a continent that was plagued by war for years to a now improving Union of many countries. A true beauty of political greatness, world wonders, landscapes, diverse peoples, and its bountiful history since the Roman Emire and the greek city states.
you also forgot to add that it is american colony
It is hard to see the good times when you are in it ❤ There is always room for improvement but for now…Happy Europe day everyone 🎉

What can we do to increase positive sentiment about Europe? Happy Europe day Hugo! I am going to watch the Eurovision 2nd semi-final 🎉
Actually fix our continent
@@pretty7995 In what concrete ways can we do that is what I mean.
@@MonsieurChapeauwell firstly, the average GDP in the EU is about 40,000 US dollars per year, the USA GDP is about 71,000 US dollars per year. Meaning in the USA you can work as a Night Shift retailer for 60,000 dollars a year, and that same job in Europe would be about 30,000 dollars per year, so maybe raise your wages a bit.
Secondly, Europe is gonna have to increase their birth rates if they want any hope at competing with the USA, China, India and countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil and Nigeria in the future.
And lastly if Europe can’t compete with the USA and China in the tech sector then y’all screwed.
If we want to keep our earth. Maybe not increase our birthrate too much 😅
@@beasley1232China has horrible birth rates though, and the ones of the US fell drastically last year, still above Europe, but still a lot. China on the other hand has one well under the European niveau

Europe is awsome because we have hundrets of diffrent cultures. EU is great, for allmost a hundred years and no wars between european countrys
I love your channel and think you do really great work. Your last statement was quite prophetic. The type of enlightened thinking, policies, and outcomes you romantically highlight (I say this as a big compliment), is of course part of Europe’s history. But it is not its reality today. You are excellent at subtlety pointing this out.
In order for Europe to recapture that spirit, it must expand what it means to be European. The irony is not lost on anyone, I’m sure.
Happy Europe Day!
Viva La Europa!
Absolutely. Well said and well done
Dude, Belarus & Russia are Europe too. And Europe is great!
Well, they would be if they ever became functional democracies and decided to stop waging war on the rest of the continent. Until then, I’m happy to leave them in the over-there box.
@@davidblair9877 You should learn history. I will never see Russians as not Europeans because they played a very significant role in the history of Europe. Much of the Balkans is now independent because of the 12 wars that Russia had against the Ottomans.
Russia wasn't backwards. All changed because of the Bolshevik revolution. And for that, I blame Germany and the USA.
@@dsodragus4616 even if all of that was true-highly debatable-it’s irrelevant. Czar Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has decided that Russia is Not Western [European], is in fact actively hostile to The West [Europe], and as far as I can tell, the majority of Russians are, at the very least, willing to play along. That’s not a European state. It’s an explicitly anti-European state. That’s reason enough to leave them off the maps. As for Belarus, Lukashenko has been Putin’s lapdog since the ‘00s. He belongs in the same Not-Europe basket Putin does.
Could these things change? Of course they could. There’s no _a priori_ reason that Russia couldn’t adopt the values that define modern European states. At present, though, it has actively rejected those values, and therefore are not European.

Great video. Thank you for this.
Imma just say ... the thumbnail map is dumb for excluding Belarus and Russia and Turkey considering THEY ARE (at least partially) in Europe
and paly a big part in european history and culture
Let's be proud!
It's important to highlight what's good and what works in Europe, and that's a lot more than the "freedom to be critical". There are so many things here that really are great and which should be savored. I definitely think that when you're being very critical (like you are) it's important to balance that out with more positive stuff. It's too easy to draw the wrong overall conclusion if you only look at the negatives
Even this video title "pretty great" is an understatement. Tell me, where is it better? If you can't, then you could also call it "the best" instead of "pretty great".
I like your channel, but I do hope you will present a more balanced view in the future.

Europe number 1!!!!
Why is Belarus and Russia in white on the thumbnail?
Europe is always criticised for lack of innovative tech but it has a thriving games development industry. Franchises like GTA, The Witcher, Fable, etc, etc were born in Europe. More recently some amazing productions came out of European studios with games like Sifu, Baldur's Gate 3, Plague Tale, and many, many more. Now sure Europe is old and complex, and legacy and complexity are never easy to overcome, but you can choose to look at the bad stuff or you can choose to look at the good stuff
I think your channel on problems facing. Europen is pretty balanced
The problem is remedies to those issues quite often require very uncomfortable choices that will lose votes
Ye the living in Europe is wonderfull, but we need to focus at our economy because it is the money and richness that brought this continent so high level of living.
The EU is an insanely cool project. Thank you for highlighting it. Europe has historically been such a war torn region so the fact that all the people here could come together to work for the common good while maintaining their sovereignty gives me hope for a future where all of the world can follow Europe's example. The fact that people in countries outside the EU speak about wanting to join the EU is also pretty cool when you think about it. Russia and China need to mobilise their militaries to force people to join them yet Europe is so attractive that people voluntarily want to join us.
Wonderful sentiment!
Props on keeping going even facing all the internet trolls in the comments.
Why is Turkey, Cyprus and Russia marked as not being part of Europe? A channel about Europe should at least get the maps right.
As you mentioned enlightenment as an European invention I would recommend you to read The Dawn of Everything which gives a more interesting and nuanced perspective of the Native American influence of such ideas such as equality and social community ideals.

Don't worry, your channel is great
Long live the EU - may it become better each day.
There are 1001 challenges ahead - at least. But as Europeans, as brothers and sisters that share the same base values, we will prevail. We will argue, struggle, err, make mistakes as we stumble along this path - but in the end the world will be a better place ... worst case just for us ^^
Edit: For Truth, Honor and freedom - the corner stones of our culture. The truth we seek, the honor to for fill our responsibilities and the freedom to chose.
Accurately said about European intellectual culture.
Seems like with recent far-right rise it's a trend to s**t on Europe with its regulations, immigrants, slower growth than US.
European powerful institutions and processes with significant infrastructural, cultural, economic and political benefits, are taken as granted, and a few of those are second to none in the world.
Maybe Europe is not the front-runner in innovations or salaries per hour, but it is the front-runner for human development, human rights, and government taking care of its citizens. Some of the policies are not liked by others, but it's quite possible to cast the vote on policies. While in for example US there are only 2 parties, the battle of 2 anti-ratings for president, and in China there are no elections...
In addition, there is a variety of cultures and geographical places to choose from, with great mobility, and no matter your choice, they will have respect to basic human rights, which is great.
If uk is included as part of europe why isn't Russia?
Russia claims that they are a part of so called "Eurasian" civilisation, neither European nor Asian
Take a wild guess
Third largest population, second largest economy.

Why did Into Europe exclude Russia and Belarus from Europe 😭😭
Geographically, yes. But at the moment there's little indication that those two want to be part of the club of nations wanting to proper together. Ukraine on the other hand has signalled that very clearly, and are working hard on it (reforms, tackling corruption); same Georgia (though them to become part of EU is a bit of a stretch for me). If political situation in Belarus changes, perhaps they will eventually orient westwards as well. Russia, on the other hand, I don't have much hope of becoming a friendly, cooperative neighbor during my lifetime (being 51).
Europe and the West invented the modern world and remains the best place on earth to live.
