I had really good luck in Paris bourbon wise but got a few Blantons gold well outside of london.
Came back with Michters toasted Rye, 4 weller 12s and 3 blantons golds.

Paris was the place to be for some picks this last month - a lot came in for the Olympics and BT did a popup there too

Even Williams single barrels are phenomenal

I do love a single barrel bottle. Always feels like you get something just a little different; and I feel it's usually those good barrels that make the cut that lends to this. All the rejects then become the blends; so may as well get the best stuff.

American checking in from Maine, really interesting to see this and what's available there.
FWIW That Evan Willaims Single Barrel used to be available all over our country, but now it is only available in Kentucky. Never tried it but have heard its good. As far as the Old Forester, that one you have there is the lowest rung for Old Forester here in the states. You are right in it as an entry level offering, although for the $23 USD or so there are better offerings available to us here. As was said by others the 100 proof is significantly better, but their 1897. 1910 and 1920 at about $55 USD here are top of the line Bourbons that rival many priced 3-4 times that much.
I agree the Schenk's is overpriced for what it is, but some really love that EH Taylor and for 110 pounds is a good buy compared to the 200-$250 it goes for here, when you can find it
Enjoyed your content and your commentary, the view around the neighborhoods where the stores were was also fun. Got me to subscribe.

Ahh thanks for the subscribe! It's great being able to share what is over here vs the US. And it's really helping improve my bourbon knowledge which is great. I'm still on the lookout for a good old forester pick, they aren't as common here but they show up often enough.
I'm heading into London this weekend where there are LOADS more shops, more than could possibly fit into a single video so there will be a few more of these to come, i'll try and show a little more of the areas around the stores as well for you.

It's really interesting here how the small store scene is. Honestly there aren't a lot, but the ones that do have stock tend to get great picks. I've been trying to map them all. A project I intend to complete so when you get here you can do a proper tour hunt.

Cheers! nice to see some bourbon content not from the US! Really interesting to see what's available in the UK vs. here. I was surprised to see all the EH Taylor available. The small batch is nice, but not life changing IMO. I also saw a bunch of stuff i've never heard of, so that's interesting. I like that backpack and prices are not terrible. Which model bag is that? Interested to see how your content develops and keep sharing your love of whiskey!

Thanks! It's nice to see that it's an interest to those in the US. I feel like every time I walk into a store I find stuff i've never heard of. The bag is a short production batch by a guy called 'The Cotswolds Hipster'. He actually worked with Talisker a while ago to make a Whisky travel bag for an event they were doing. Theirs were blue, but it's the same design. He then customised the logo on the front for me. I love it!

The old forester 100 is a great bargain here in the states for $27 US dollars. much better than the 86. Keep recording your whiskey videos, good stuff especially visits in the quiet neighborhoods.

Thanks - yes I will do; and appreciate the support, I’m building out a map / directory of all the good bourbon fan shops I can find in the UK. It’s a much smaller community here but it’s nice to be able to know where to go and look at least. And to be able to find events.

They change those two bottles each year that you tried at the end I would be interested in which ones you tried because the 2024s of those this year are fabulous One they did a French oak barrel I think it was the bomberger's The shanks was chocolate malt rye and caramel malt first time ever The reason why I say this is because the last couple years wasn't really too good?

@@BarrelRollx they get some Japan exclusives. One easily available to me, Evan Williams 12 year is only about 35-40 dollars US out here but in the States is about 130 dollars plus a 25 dollar distillery tour. The Japanese market was a lifeline for a lot of distilleries back in the day when the US bourbon market was down. Blanton’s is another good example with several Japan only editions. I’ve had a bottle of the basic Blanton’s for both the US and Japanese markets and I prefer the US version with it’s slightly higher proof.

Are those prices typical of American Bourbon in the UK? If so is there a big sin tax or tariff on American bourbons because those are a lot higher than in the US or Japan where I currently live.

    • @BarrelRollx
      @BarrelRollx  2 місяці тому

Yeah - these are a smaller shop; so a touch higher but on general yes, taxes and import duty etc hurt us a lot over here.

Some of these are a little higher than usual as it’s a lot of independent shops so they have higher costs. But independent shops often have more variety and different bottles and it’s nice to support them for the few extra bucks where you can imo.
Wouldn’t mind a trip out to the US to fill my bags though!!

@@BarrelRollxYea these smaller shops gotta do what they got do to, to make it out there. I was lucky to get EHT Small batch for 78.95£ at the Whiskey Exchange Shop in Covert Garden for their bourbon of the month of July.
My take away is that personally I'd rather support newer local distilleries that are independent like Bimber or only pay extra if it's a bottle I know that I can get in my local country.
