You can tell von Karajan and the players were really enjoying this. They play with such elegance and élan. Truly magnificent.This is the very same orchestra of the legendary Decca Ring cycle with Solti. The brass was legendary. Like a tidal wave of sound... not to mention the incredible strings and woodwinds.
Anyone notice how the Decca did so much better job at recording Von Karajan than DG did... This would still be world class if recorded at this quality today.
I like how it goes from esoteric and soaring to to royal banquet, to mercurial, to uncle moneybags, to magical, then it goes to Oktoberfest, then we go to Santa's fuckin' toy-shop! Then we get sucked down a black-hole of pure jollity. Then you're hit with the most epic, romantic musical theme of all time. Then, your in a primaeval forest full of unborn disney spirits, and embark unto the ether... Then you return -breifly- to the north pole, pirate town, the High Seas, But then you join her majesty's Royal Navy and bow the feuck out in a hurry because you got places to be.

This is a GREAT recording! For something recorded 60 years ago. I MEAN WOW!
