After you clay the car and dry it off with the microfiber towel, you mentioned waxing it. Do you need to wash the car after you clay it before waxing, or can you just wax it right after?
Good stuff here, thanks. I'm going to get your light duty blue bar and luber. But some questions: 1) Do you do one section at a time? 2) How often do you have to clay bar the same car? 3) Does this product work like "paint correction" and remove swirls from a black car? 4) How do you clean up the clay bar after you've finished? Do you wash it or just store it wet? Stick it in a ziploc? Thanks!
Hi! Good question. We recommend doing a section at a time to get into detail and not miss any spots. You may clay bar the same car as many times as you would like. Clay bar will not remove any scratches or swirls, it only removes contamination from vehicles. When clay baring have a towel in your hand to clean off any drips that happen while clay baring. After using the clay bar, we recommend storing it back in the case it came in until next time. If you drop the clay bar make sure you throw it away. Also one last thing cut the clay bar in 4 pieces and stretch it out into a 3 finger length and use that to clay bar the car. Store the extra 3 pieces until needed. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family! -CG Henry🤙
Hi, great question. When using the clay bar, if it appears soiled, fold the clay and use a clean portion to clean the next section. By folding it in this manner, you are always folding the dirty section onto itself, revealing a new, clean portion of the clay bar. For example, if you are claying with Side A to the paint and Side B touching your fingers, fold Side A onto itself so the contaminants are tucked inside the clay bar. The clay is thick enough that those contaminants will no longer be contact with the paint! And don't forget, when the bar becomes completely soiled, it's time to get a new one. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for new videos headed your way soon!
Sorry which of your soaps or sealant or product should I use if I want like a hydrophobic spray as I live by the ocean and my car always seems to be wet and I would like to repel water. Thank you

+jose713 Once the side of the clay bar used turns dirty, fold it over on itself and knead it thoroughly to expose a fresh side. Continue using the clay bar in this manner over the car until no more "fresh" or "clean" clay surfaces appear. Hey!! Start with a wash using Clean Slate then use a Medium Clay Bar and Luber to decontaminate the paintwork. Inspect the surface for scratches and swirls to determine if machine polishing is necessary.
I have a white 2000 Tundra that's in great shape but I'd like to get the paint finish up to snuff as much as possible. I don't have any power tools/buffers/polishers etc so keep that in mind. Given the age of the paint, should I first use a rubbing compound (after washing), then clay bar, then glaze and wax? Or clay bar first? Also...when you use the clay bar on the first pass and then just fold it up for the next section, all the debris just gets folded in to the bar, won't that eventually be on the outside of the bar after you fold a couple more times, and possibly scratch the paint? You can really use one bar for 20 cars? Where does all the accumulated grime go?
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. After washing your truck move right in to a clay bar treatment before compound/polish. The clay bar absorbs contamination and locks it away, yes eventually it will become so full of grime that it will need to be replaced but that will take awhile. I highly recommend picking up a machine polisher to achieve a consistently better result.

Thanks soo much. I have 2 questions. 1. When is it time to throw away the clay bar, would it be after each use? 2. How often can you clay bar the car? After each wash? If so will it damage the clear coat?
Hi Andrew! The clay bar is a tool that is designed to extract contamination. Use it as needed, two to four times a year depending on detailing routine and if the vehicle is outdoors often. Once you can no longer find a clean face, the clay bar should be replaced. With proper use one clay bar can be used several times before needing to be replaced. - CG Nick
I have a question, at the end of the video you said " you can follow up with a wax or sealant " . Do you one should or could buff the vehicle after applying the clay bar treatment?
Hi! Good question. Claying should be done before any cutting or polishing is attempted. The order you have listed above is correct. You can always consult the detail flow chart which I will link below for more details or further clarification! Had a question. I'd like to know why Little brown and orange dots start to appear on my white car after I used your guys' CLY_400 OG Light Clay Bar on my car. I researched and find out that those are rail dust or brake dust spot. However, before I clay bar my car there is no brown dots. I only appeared after I glide the bar through the surface. I follow proper instructions ( lubricated the surface well). Any solutions to get rid of those tiny dots?
What can I use as an alternative if I dont have that chemical before I use the clay bar? Is it necessary to have before i use the clay bar? Thanks in advance.
Hi there! You can use your favorite quick detailer to lubricate the clay bar if you do not have Clay Luber. This should only be used as a temporary solution.
I have some heavy contamination I'm using the all-purpose. but there are some very very small spots that don't come off I can remove with my finger nail but I assume that's not a good way. what can I do. should I use an orbital buffer
My truck was parked near someone who was doing sandblasting and the dust settled into my clearcoat and its really rough, it wasent hit directly just sand sat on my paint for a couple weeks, is the paint ruined

When using a clay bar, are you supposed to apply any pressure? Or does the clay bar pick things up with a simple back and forth or up and down motion with the lube?
I dont use much pressure, it should feel like the clay bar is dragging for a second and when it picks up all the contamination the clay bar will glide like butter
Hi Monique! Using a clay bar will remove contaminants from the paintwork but to remove scratches and swirls it will need to be polished. Check out this video! - CG Nick ua-cam.com/video/fwhmhFp5hhk/v-deo.html
Hi there! It depends on the condition of the paint and how the vehicle has been cared for. I suggest using a Medium Clay Bar with plenty of Luber to remove embedded contaminants. www.chemicalguys.com/clay-bar-and-luber-synthetic-lubricant-kit-medium-duty/CLY_KIT_2.html
Sanic Agree and disagree, i like to use Clay, some people like to use disc clay, gloves, etc.. So i think many times they are ajusting their line of products to their costumers. Actually, in that thinking, every wax do the same, sealant, etc.....
Hi Michael! If the vehicle hasn't been clayed before, try using the Medium Clay Bar with Clay Luber. www.chemicalguys.com/clay-bar-and-luber-synthetic-lubricant-kit-medium-duty/CLY_KIT_2.html
The clay bar preps the surface by picking up and holding onto all the contaminants. Kneeding it simply gives you a fresh clay surface that hasn't been contaminated yet so you can continue to clay without scratching the surface. Thanks for watching!
I have a brand new white Ram that I've been using only requires to clean and wax with microfiber only. Never used water on my truck yet. Wipe down in 20 minutes twice a week. Its very smooth but can feel a little bit of something in paint. Is this why u clay a new vehicle?
I bought all the Chemical Guys stuff and clay barred my hood. At just the right lighting angle I can see these cloudy streaks and I can't get them out. What did I do wrong? How do I fix it?
Hi there! Knead the clay bar as often as necessary. A heavily contaminated vehicle will quickly cover the face of the clay bar with grime so it will need to be kneaded more often.
Isn’t kneading the clay bar as you go just pushing contaminates back into the clay bar..? So at some stage your clay baring your vehicle with a freshly contaminated clay bar.?
Hi! When you knead the clay bar, you are kneading it to reveal a new, clean spot. Hi Nichole, thanks for the question. The Clay Bar is most definitely not the clay that you would find in a school... a Chemical Guys Clay Bar is a propriety blend of special ingredients that are specifically tailored to remove contaminants from your paint. Hello again! You definitely can as long as they're the softest towels, we have a wide variety towels and many of them possess similar qualities. The beauty of microfiber is that it's perfect for drying and buffing without scratching, and the static properties allow towels picks up dirt very quickly. Some of my personal favorites are the Happy Ending towel in green, the Premium Red Line Towel, and the Monster Extreme Thickness Microfiber Towel.
Help! i forgot to wipe everything dry before i proceed to other panels.. after i wash the and clean the whole car there were all claylube marks on my black car surface.. i couldnt remove it!
Hey Shelby, good question. Yes! Clay bars absolutely need some kind of lubricant to work correctly. Without lubricant, clay bars cannot move freely over the surface and work as intended. Without proper lubrication a clay bar will catch on contaminants, pull them across the surface and possibly scratch or mar paint. Clay bars are such intended as to work with proper clay bar lubricants are formulated to lubricate the surface allowing the clay bars to glide more freely across a surface. Lubricants aid the clay bar in lifting particles and allow the clay bar to move freely from raking roughly across the paint and causing possible scratches. Thanks for watching, Shelby, and don't forget to check out our 4th of July sale we are currently running online!
Hey Jose! It may not be necessary to polish the vehicle but it is important to apply a protectant such as sealant and/or wax to lock in shine and repel contamination.
Hey! We recommend using 1/4 of the clay bar per vehicle. If the vehicle is super contaminated, we recommend constantly remolding the clay until you get a new clean side. Also, if you do not drop the clay you may use it next time. Just be sure to store the clay bar in a safe place. Thanks for watching and happy detailing!

I have a question, at the end of the video you said " you can follow up with a wax or sealant " .
Do you one should or could buff the vehicle after applying the clay bar treatment?
Hey Frank! After the clay bar process you can polish the surface to remove swirls and scratches or move on to applying coatings.
How often should you do this?
So would I use this before or after cutting with a DA?
What exactly is the process?
Clay, cut/polish, seal, wax?
Hi! Good question. Claying should be done before any cutting or polishing is attempted. The order you have listed above is correct. You can always consult the detail flow chart which I will link below for more details or further clarification! Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!

@@ChemicalGuys thanks. I have quite an order sitting in my cart on your site right now. Porter Cable package with pads, blacklight combo sealant, clay block set, and 4 pack of the V optical polish kit and a half gallon of the butter wet wax. Trying to figure out if I'm missing anything in the order lol.
Been putting off the order, but don't know how much longer I can wait. Figure get everything I need to get a great start.
Sounds like you're taking your detailing to the next level... awesome!! 👌 The only thing I can think that you might need is a brush to clean your pads with. The Porter Cable 7424XP Complete kit comes with Pad Cleaner and pads, so we recommend picking up a brush if you don't already have one to clean those pads after to help them last their longest. Let us know if you have any further questions!

@@ChemicalGuys what's the difference between the brush you listed and the orange handled brush with the smaller brush head?
The shape of the handle is the biggest difference. The orange handle is much more ergonomic.
So happy to see there's lube being used. The job is so much easier with lube! Just got mine and I can't wait to test it. Thanks for the concise video (and making kits for peeps like us who are clueless/n00bs to this stuff).

Hi Steve! That is correct, thoroughly wash, dry and clay bar the vehicle before polishing or applying coatings.
You guys need to develop a product for, and do a tutorial on large scale adhesive removal...ie removing vinyl wrap from a car or racing stripes that have baked on for years etc.
i think they have doone one for removing emblems, the adhesive on that, removed, etc.. it might work with vinyl?
Use portable hair dryer, heat up and pull slowly
Is there a recommended temp for doing this? And anyone here in the comments recommended this product specifically?
Hey! It is always best to work when the surface is cool to the touch.
DON'T DROP THE BAR
Very true, thanks for watching
Had a question. I'd like to know why Little brown and orange dots start to appear on my white car after I used your guys' CLY_400 OG Light Clay Bar on my car. I researched and find out that those are rail dust or brake dust spot. However, before I clay bar my car there is no brown dots. I only appeared after I glide the bar through the surface. I follow proper instructions ( lubricated the surface well). Any solutions to get rid of those tiny dots?
Use a drop cloth. Or I should say, plastic

Hey! Use Wipe Out to cleanse the surface before applying ceramic.
I'm tinting my taillights tomorrow. I want to clay bar them first. Will it be OK to do that, and not use wax, since I will be applying tint?
Hey! Absolutely, it is totally fine to use a clay bar to prep your taillights.
@@ChemicalGuys awesome, thanks so much!
I have a question sir, I have to use clay bar before polishing process or after that?
Hello! Use the clay bar before polishing.
I have some heavy contamination I'm using the all-purpose. but there are some very very small spots that don't come off I can remove with my finger nail but I assume that's not a good way. what can I do. should I use an orbital buffer
Hi- what exactly are you using?
My truck was parked near someone who was doing sandblasting and the dust settled into my clearcoat and its really rough, it wasent hit directly just sand sat on my paint for a couple weeks, is the paint ruined
If ever the clay bar fell down on the ground,do we have to throw it away or knead it
Hey there! It is better to replace the clay bar rather than try to knead out the rocks from the ground and risk ruining the paintwork.

Which one is good for oxidation on the vehicle? I can see what looks like stains on my doors but if I apply pressure and rinse it comes off
I’d say use a rubbing compound or polishing compound for oxidation depending on how bad it is and what condition the clear coat is it
What was the name of the spray you used first to use the clay bar
Hey! Check out Clay Luber to glide the clay bar across the surface.
Would it be ok to just
1: wash the car
2: dry with an air blower to avoid water spots
3: claybar.
Or do you have to do another step after the claybar
Hey Greg, we have many steps after the clay bar to get your car looking its best. Which steps you decide to do is up to you and what condition your car is. In general, a full detail would included wash, clay, polish, glaze, seal, and wax, in that order. Check out the links below to see all the steps performed on an R35 GTR in their proper order!
New to this but what’re the steps

I have a 12 year old car. I have not detail the car since i bought it from the dealership. Which clay bar would be best for my car?.
Hi there! It depends on the condition of the paint and how the vehicle has been cared for. I suggest using a Medium Clay Bar with plenty of Luber to remove embedded contaminants.

German Vacani what I meant was most companies have like a 10 product like for something 2 products could do
Sanic Agree and disagree, i like to use Clay, some people like to use disc clay, gloves, etc..
So i think many times they are ajusting their line of products to their costumers.
Actually, in that thinking, every wax do the same, sealant, etc.....

Hi Michael! If the vehicle hasn't been clayed before, try using the Medium Clay Bar with Clay Luber.

What happens to all the dirt, contaminents caught and picked up by the clabar - kneeding it - wouldnt this scratch the paint??
The clay bar preps the surface by picking up and holding onto all the contaminants. Kneeding it simply gives you a fresh clay surface that hasn't been contaminated yet so you can continue to clay without scratching the surface.
Thanks for watching!
Yes.
I have a brand new white Ram that I've been using only requires to clean and wax with microfiber only.
Never used water on my truck yet. Wipe down in 20 minutes twice a week. Its very smooth but can feel a little bit of something in paint. Is this why u clay a new vehicle?
Yes this is why
I bought all the Chemical Guys stuff and clay barred my hood. At just the right lighting angle I can see these cloudy streaks and I can't get them out. What did I do wrong? How do I fix it?
Hi there! Restore a mirror-like gloss by machine polishing with a White Hex-Logic Pad and P4 Precision Paint Polish.
Do you need to dry the car after washing? And before claying?
Hi there! It isn't necessary for the vehicle to be completely dry however it should be mostly dry.
Do I fold the claybar after a panel is done or should I be doing it more often?
Hi there! Knead the clay bar as often as necessary. A heavily contaminated vehicle will quickly cover the face of the clay bar with grime so it will need to be kneaded more often.
@@ChemicalGuys how do you determine the piece of clay needs to be thrown away?
Isn’t kneading the clay bar as you go just pushing contaminates back into the clay bar..? So at some stage your clay baring your vehicle with a freshly contaminated clay bar.?
Hi! When you knead the clay bar, you are kneading it to reveal a new, clean spot. Hey! It isn't necessary to use an iron remover before clay.
Is clay bar the same in material as molding clay used for children’s school projects?
Hi Nichole, thanks for the question. The Clay Bar is most definitely not the clay that you would find in a school... a Chemical Guys Clay Bar is a propriety blend of special ingredients that are specifically tailored to remove contaminants from your paint. It is even manufactured with Flex-Clay Technology to help the bar conform to every curve and contour for maximum effect with every swipe! Thanks for watching, Nichole, and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today!
Chemical Guys Oh I got it. Thanks for the well explained info and keep it up. 👍
Should you clay bar before doing the ceramic coating?
Hey! Yes, that is correct. Once you finish claying, we recommend polishing, then apply the ceramic coating.
Do I knead the wax after each panel? Thanks
Hi! Roll and knead the clay bar after every panel or sooner to maintain a clean side.
Do i need to use the clean slate wash first??
Hello! Using Clean Slate is a great first step to remove old layers of glaze, sealant and wax for a thorough detail.
Hey again just wondering can u use any microfibre towel to dry your car with??
Hello again! You definitely can as long as they're the softest towels, we have a wide variety towels and many of them possess similar qualities. The beauty of microfiber is that it's perfect for drying and buffing without scratching, and the static properties allow towels picks up dirt very quickly. Some of my personal favorites are the Happy Ending towel in green, the Premium Red Line Towel, and the Monster Extreme Thickness Microfiber Towel.
I have a clay bar but I don’t have any luber can I still use the clay bar if it’s wet?
Hey Miranda! In a pinch you can use your favorite quick detail spray to lubricate your clay bar but this should only be a temporary solution.
Help! i forgot to wipe everything dry before i proceed to other panels.. after i wash the and clean the whole car there were all claylube marks on my black car surface.. i couldnt remove it!
Hi! We recommend using a quick detail spray to remove the Clay Luber marks. If that doesn't work, we recommend Butter Wet Wax. Happy detailing!
Is the clay bar good for bugs on the front of a black vehicle
Hey! Absolutely, use the clay bar to extract stubborn bug remains.
@@ChemicalGuys thank you so much for a quick reply!!
Shouldn't you rinse the chemical/contaminated residue off the car and then dry it?🤔
you need to do a iso wipe down before you wax to prep the paint, you should anyways even if you aren’t clay barring
Lubricate while claybarring? The bar just glides, how does that help pick up contaminant?

Is it necessary to wax/polish your car after using clay? I've washed my car and clayed it for the first time today. But I did not wax it.
Hey Jose! It may not be necessary to polish the vehicle but it is important to apply a protectant such as sealant and/or wax to lock in shine and repel contamination.
Can in use my clay bar again? How do i clean it? What if i finish using the clay bar can i keep it for next use?
@@ChemicalGuys Thank you.
does the car have to be clean before you start clay baring
Hi Sam! Yes, it is important to clean the vehicle to remove heavier grime before using a clay bar.

This before or after the wash?
Hey Brian! The clay bar process should be performed after washing the vehicle.
How long or how many times can you keep using the same clay bar??
Hi Ron! Roll and knead the clay bar to a fresh side until a clean face can no longer be found, at which point it should be replaced.
