The Quint - an unusual type XVIIIc Longsword

- This is a creation of an Oakshot Type XVIIIc longsword combined with the proportions of a blade from the German Blade Museum at Solingen. What makes this sword so special I explain in this video. Have fun!
The blade is made by longsword-longleg.de/ - Спорт
This sword would really fit to the game the Witcher 3. It's beautiful, looks late medieval, and is an agile cutter.
And very unique.
And its scabbard is a backscabbard ^^ handeled it before. Its crazy!
Witchers in books use short swords because Witchers are all about speed. They use short swords as talons, their battle style is more animalistic, witchers try to split enemy open with one fast strike. Also keeping short swords on the back actually works and it was also the only reason why 12 years old Ciri was able even lift the Witcher sword - it was just small.
The games introduced long swords due to technical reasons - hitboxes work better with bigger weapons, most videogames use oversized swords. Unfortunately now everyone thinks that monsterslayer with massive two hander who spends half of his life in tight caverns, tombs and severs makes any sense... It doesn't, it never did 😂
Witcher is jsut a rip off of Elric of Melnibone
"I would not look at fantasy swords nor hold them in my hand." I love that. You're great! 😁
Depends on the fantasy swords; Peter Lyons LOTR designs and Peter Johnsons pieces he designed for House Of The Dragon are spot on functional and as real as it gets. That crossguard in the video is taken by a fantasy sword anyway: it appears on a steel sword from the Witcher-III video game.
@@grunztiertransmutator770 I suppose there are fantasy swords and fantasy swords. In a sense the ones you mention aren't fantasy in the sense that they would ignore historical accuracy altogether.
I also don't see it as narrowly as it might have come across in the statement. But something about the piece should be historical so that it has an added value for you in the presentation.
I love real swords, but there are some fantasy swords I just love, too. The Atlantean Sword is so iconic and beautiful, even though it's absolutely stupid in its design, weight, weight distribution and application. I really don't like the "d&d swords" which have spikes sticking out everywhere and really oversized blades from comic designs, but some fantasy movie swords are really beautiful designs.
@@W4ldgeist Albion has an atlantean reproduction. I don't think it's design is that bad functionally. I'm curious if there's any reviews of it professionally out there.
What a unique and beautiful sword typology. Thanks for the awesome video 👍🏻
As beautiful as that sword is, seeing it in motion is just breathtaking.
And scary
might be completely wrong but i feel like some chinese choppy swords have similar blade to handle ratios.
might have had similar purposes?
regardless, very nice looking sword and sword usage
Great video and such a beautiful sword.
The first time I have seen this style of sword (large handle with relatively short blade) I didn't like it but I have grown to really like it especially now seeing one in motion and knowing it is a historical design.
A bit of criticism about the video, the volume of your voice is quite low compared to the volume of the intro and outro music. I have noticed this in some of your previous videos as well.
Cheers!
2.44kg? That's astonishingly heavy for a longsword, but I imagine the relatively high CoG keeps it very managable.
I just fell in love with that sword. It sounds to me like it is a Zornhaw beast.
I just love the musical intro not really knowing what I'm going to see but it will be cool.
Thank you for yet another awesome video!
This particular proportion is what I used for 'The First Blades' in my fantasy novel Chasing the Unicorn! I fell in love with the Alexandria sword and other Type XVIIIc blades for the wide proportions, long hilts and wide crosspieces. They somehow look elegant and nimble but also brutal and efficient - the perfect sword for a Paladin fighting eldritch horrors from beyond time!
Wonderful walk-through with the weapon.
I think Scottish and irish Longsword have different proportions as well !
We can see some sort of this shape with Galadriel in outcoming "Rings of Power")) but really low quality, and bad design, made looks like from solid piece of material, with no detachable hilt, crossguard, no pommel and so on.
Does the Paladin uses a flintlock gun?
@@wlg2677 No, but one of his allies is very fond of black powder bombs, ye olde original style: clay vessel packed with black powder and metal shot.
Not as effective as the magic of the Divines, but still pretty brutal.
@@J.J.Spencer Ok. So there is blackpowder?
Good.
Such a gorgeous blade.
Outstanding Show
I honestly missed most of the words in the video because I was mesmerized just watching Bjorn do his drills. You make it look so easy. The mark of an expert.
beautiful sword!
Beautiful sword 👍
Great presentation! 😃
The details on the hilt and the shape of the blade make me fall in love with this mithril-looking beast!
Beautiful sword.
Incredible craftsmanship
This sword is absolutely gorgeous. I hope someday I'll be skilled enough to make blades of this quality and beauty.
Wow that sword looks amazing. The blade shape, crossguard and handle is so estethically pleasing thats it just satisfying to simply look at the sword. Its like watching a great painting or statue. I know next to nothing about hema but after seeing you fencing with it I have an urge to try.
Wow, verry beautyfull and impressable. It's such a masterpiece.👍👍👍
Very good Video Björn wish to see more of u, i really liked the Flail Videos.
Luv the Design
It's so beautiful. *drooling*
Great video!
I love these reviews.
beautiful sword
I like the gameplay in the background !
This sword, with a slightly smaller handle, is what I imagine Dawn from Game Of Thrones would actually look like. Fantasy sword, I know, but GOT swords still look like they actually existed and could be used.
It is good to see you uploading more often compared to previous years. I hope your channel grows in viewership as it deserves.
This sword is impressive. I am surprised at the weight. That must explain the length of the (beautiful) grip to assist in handling such a heavy sword.
une épée exceptionnelle et d'une beauté rare! De plus tes mouvement sont si naturel,c'est impressionnant
idk what's prettier, this mans blade or this mans movements. both are very well crafted.
Excellent technical overview. Its proportions remind me of training sword a fellow I used to know had. One of his favorite tactics would be a "lunge" style maneuver where he would choke down till both hands were at the pommel and between legs. Most swordsmen would then parry the end of the blade straight into their thigh.
Oh man, that music is giving me flashbacks to Medieval II
Had to Watch Again. Your Handling of the Sword Top Notch,😏 I Will be Studying .
Thank You.
👍👍
Nice handling!
... looks fantastic.
Although it's massive, the way you mice makes it look light! And I love the sneaker and pants combo
Ein großartiges Schwert wurde hervorragend geschwungen, vielen Dank für diese Vorstellung.
Ich denke auch Schottische und irische Schwerter haben auch andere Proportionen !
funny enough that you mention this sword in connection with fantasy, your video was recommended to me cause of vermintide 2 where this sword is portrayed, thank you for sharing your knowledge, nice video.
멋지네요! 잘 봤습니다
Spes mayer trousers and High Nike basket shoes...so frickin cool!!!!
i really like longswords... and that is a beauty
You really made it dance.
amazing!
you cannot handle my pro-potions, traveler
I love the trainers matching his medieval pants
My man loves the word proportions !
Now that's a scary sword and fighting style
Relatively short blade on a relatively long handle is the perfect longsword both in feeling and in looks IMO
Hello, I think it is a very good intrapolation. I have an a very similar sword comissioned (from SKokloster schloss in sweden) The blade is not quite the same. It has 100 cm lenght is as wide as type XVc (55 cm and 5mm thick it get thick to be 6.5 at 77 cm the tip is 4.5mm) and tapers to a re-inforced point but until it become diamond section (well ultra flatten diamond section, as is the rest of the cuting plan) it is closer to a type XVII. the hilt is 39 cm and a pommel 5.5. I handled the original, it is only 1850 kg and it is incredibly stiff and nimble.
Excellent
drilling with a sword in jordans with matching period-pants lol
that looks like a Dark Souls weapon, and half-expecting a moon light beam to shoot out of it with an overhead swing
Even by your standards, it was a great video.
Its such a beautiful blade. I'd love to learn how go use that kind of sword and own one.
another beauty!
Badass blade!!
very nice looking. I would own one similar no problem
Дуже гарна робота! Просто бездоганна!
Nice!
Omg i love it! 😍
I own a Albion Principe it is also type XVIIIc but the Principe looks a bit shorter, perhaps its just the grip length of this Quint version throwing me off. Btw is this an Albion make as well perhaps? Great video enjoyed your commentary and analysis.
Dang, I can hear that blade whispering "AM CHONK". Very cool stuff in all regards!!
You'd think such a large weapon would be very difficult to control. Evidently the design is extremely well thought out.
That is a SEXY blade!
Basically a Scandinavian greatsword, but longsword version
Beautiful sword. I had an idea for one just like it many years ago, but unfortunately I’m not a sword smith lol.
It's a beauty. Approximately what date would this have been in use?
Great footwear! not sure about which historical period it belongs to, but sure does look as comfortable as the blade's grip.
Simply gorgeous 😍🥰
I dont know if I call it longsword, but its a nice sword. Great video !
It really reminds me of the elven greatswords from the new lotr series
Beautiful. Do you find the raised part on the crossguard interferes with thumb placement?
fascinating...
A beautiful sword; one can almost feel its balance and handling just from watching. Its proportions remind me of some of the faussarts in the Maciejowski Bible.
Beautiful sword. I wonder are there any examples of a late german battle sword with a blade in the iviiic style? The sword here has a handle length of nearly identical length. Would be intresting to know if there are any examples of such.
Well I'll be, I designed myself a sword some years ago, and it seems this is it.
I live in the US, how would I get my hands on this piece of beauty
Wow!
Huh. My M4 bayonet is Solingen steel. It's pretty legendary. What is the weight? That's the acid test. You hold a pint in each hand, arms outstretched. See how long you will last. That's what it is to carry a big heavy blade for a week along with all your other gear. I believe any primary weapon should have three things. Lightness. Durability. Simplicity. Cheers for the vid.
cool.
Nice sword and nice moves ! how much !?
Huh. I designed a sword just like this for a novel dedicated to my late brother. But it’s a novel about fantastic coincidences and omens and shared dreams, so I guess that’s appropriate...
Now this looks like a real manly blade
Dear Björn , do you think the Scottish Claymore swords are similar to the proportions of your sword in this video? Perhaps these are swords of an intermediate class between a longsword and a two-handed sword?
Absolutely gorgeous sword. Was this a custom piece or are they available for purchase? If so I'd deeply appreciate knowing where.
Have a look at the vid description...its a custom piece but maybe still for sale :)
Similar geometry to the albion principe with extra leverage. It would very very powerful sword against lightly armoured opponents.
Like the Scottish Highlander Greatsword, but with even shorter blade and longer hilt
How would this do as a feder? If the same proportions (minus the blade width) we’re used and total length capped at 52in with the handle length adjusted to the new overall and blade length?
Where can I get some pants like that? Also, what hair conditioner do you use?
"if you like this content and want to see more like and subscribe" DONE AND DONE what a beauty of a weapon
It looks beautiful!!!
P.D also i think the volume of the video was a bit low or maybe it was just me i don't know.
it was...i try to fix that...i guess the intro and outro is always way to loud...and than all seem low in comparison to it
Interesting one. Couldn't it be that that sword in the museum originally had a longer blade, which, for example, broke off and was resharpened to a shorter length?
Good question! But we have some indications that it should be so. The tip ends up exactly in the circular geometry (7circles) and the two hollow lines ends just in front of the tip...it seems that these propotion was real
@ got it.
Would this be a dedicated two handed longsword I hear so much about?
Are there any swords of the same proportions of that one but longer?
I wonder if I'll ever see a XVIIId
