I use the cricket portion of this video to show new dart players the strategy behind cricket. Phil Taylor does an exceptional job of explaining this as well. Being from the United States I wish darts were more popular. It really is such a great game.
Agreed! I just got back into it after 10 years of not playing. We have a small darts community here in my town but we always want more people to come out.
Wow, thank you very much for this video! I really enjoyed it, but it saddens me a bit to see Phil nowadays. He was in perfect form and had so much fun back in the days. I hope he gets in form before he decides to stop playing altogether!
Agreed, excellent commentary - it also shows how the "in game" decision/strategy may differ from the "no pressure" analysis of a leg. I also didn't know Ye Ole Power plays soft tip. Must not be so often though because this vid is from 2005. At any rate, I thoroughly enjoy watching the pros play this venue. A few have. Thanks for the upload, Music1212Punk, definitely an entertaining exhibition.
at 8:34 he says he made a mistake by throwing one 18 but actually that's the best thing to do. At best he could have hit a treble 17 wich would have gotten him 50 points ahead. His opponent then scores at least one treble and he's 4 points behind..
It depends on the game and set up. Most x01 games are played Open, Double in / Double Out, Master Out, which means to end the game they have to Double out or Treble/Double out. So if the Bull is 50, which is double the regular score, then yes. You can finish the game in bull. However if Bull is set to 25 green 50 red, then no.
I am awfully sorry, I cannot help you much, because I play steel tip darts. I only played soft tip twice. It is not at all popular in my country and I do not fancy it myself. I can only tell you that: 1) In my experience: bullet/torpedo/bomb shaped darts tend to be a lot more aerodynamic than straight darts and more forgiving due to a more consistent trajectory, but it HEAVILY DEPENDS on the player!. I started playing with a short, torpedo shaped barrel. It helped a lot in the beginning. Suffering from back problems, I had to change my throwing slightly at a given moment and I had to change my grip. I then switched to a longer, straight dart just to accommodate my grip. 2) I am no expert, but as far as I know, for soft tip, the darts sets are usually lighter and I for one did not see so much of a variety in terms of barrel shapes. 3) I think it would be best to try different sets, weights, different stems+flights setups and see what works best for you. Try to borrow from other darts players if possible. 4) I currently use these: www.dartscorner.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=35256 5) If I can help further, just let me know.
they are playing soft tip darts, which means in 01 single bull is also worth 50 points just like the double. So they prefer to aim at the bull because it's easier to hit and it gives you 50 points.
Back in those days Taylor used Unicorn darts. The range was called "Purist". They were straight barrels, heavily gripped, these ones he uses in the clip are the soft tip version obviously. Around 2007 he switched to a shorter, torpedo like barrel (kind of like John Lowe's darts) with the same grip. He also used several other variations of that design. Around 2014, he switched to Target darts.
adrian lewis is a good player just a little under form at the moment. Phil is good player but probably looking towards a worlds and then call it a day but, who knows. MVG I always thought he was a good player its just a shame that James Wade is not doing well as I like him as well.

35 years ago I was champion at the base where I was stationed, just now getting ready to play again. Long lay off!
"There's no pressure in darts. The only pressure is the pressure you put on yourself."
Word.
I thought that was such a bs statement, you could say that about anything, not just darts
I thought it was a great statement for the same reason as yours.

I love the way Phil thinks in darts. Basically never miss
After Phil hits the double bull to win Cricket:
"That's all you gotta do...."
Yeah, sure, if you're the greatest dart legend on Earth.
Phil is going to wipe the floor with these players at Super Darts 2018
Worldwide Darts yeah i was thinking the same but he fail to win
Great commentary from Mr. Taylor. I've never seen him play soft tip before. The other guy was really good too.

If you want to check out more of Phil Taylor playing soft tip, go to the DARTSLIVE UA-cam channel. Those matches I recommend checking out.
さすがは the power 立ち居振る舞い、フォーム、すべてがカッコイイ

Question: For soft tip can you finish on the bull (green ring)

Thank you for your reply.
In your opinion what would you
suggest for a soft tip dart straight or bullet? What darts are you currently using. Thank You

are these high end boards made of a rubber type material?
no these aren't steel tip darts it's soft tip, so it's an electronic board, and it's made of hard plastic
For x01, why weren't they aiming for treble 20s at first? 3 of those gives a player 180, while 3 double bulls 'only' give 150. 30 points is a lot!

Thank you!
Why is outer bull worth 50 in 01 but bull is worth dbl in cricket??
It's soft tip. On those machines they count it as 50. Crazy, right?
What darts are being used
Mostly are Taylor Customs Darts from Target
Back in those days Taylor used Unicorn darts. The range was called "Purist". They were straight barrels, heavily gripped, these ones he uses in the clip are the soft tip version obviously. Why does he sound so surprised at what he was doing
phil taylor is a legend but in my opinion is adrian lewis the best in the world.
adrian lewis is a good player just a little under form at the moment. Phil is good player but probably looking towards a worlds and then call it a day but, who knows. MVG I always thought he was a good player its just a shame that James Wade is not doing well as I like him as well.
Cocksnot lol eric with his 80-90 average :D
Cocksnot Phil said adrian is the best player in the world even phil claimed this. We do not have to discuss about who is better or not.
Looks like he's about 20th best now lol
his best times are over
Lol! When you can deliver 9 markers that alone puts your opponent under pressure! Miss twice and go home?
