Darts - How To Choose a Set of Darts
Переглядів 77 тис.11 років тому
Mr. John Lowe, 3 times World Champion in 3 separate decades ( the 70s, the 80s and the 90s ), the first man to do a 9 darter on TV, explains in great detail all you would need to know about darts: how to choose a set of darts, aerodynamics, materials, design theory, things to look for and things to look at and so on.
Eric done a brilliant job here listen to what hes tells you you will get better but its not easy and you have to practice keep it fun you never know its a game that anyone can play but to play it well is not easy j won't be giving up the day job thats for sure Eric bristow was brilliant that's for sure😊
Having just watched Luke's win it brought me back to reflect on the greats from my youth. There were so many in those smoky atmosphere days but only one stood out as really, really special. Eric was that man. I met him and the entire England team at Ingliston outside Edinburgh at the Silk Cut World Cup in the 80's. Me and my pal were behind the scenes and got all their autographs and photos which i still have. A special day that will live with me till i die. Eric was in charge for sure yet he was so humble behind the scenes. You could tell the other players respected him. For me Eric was the greatest in play, personality and showmanship. Loved the man. Stevie in Scotland.
His hair was just dreadful back then
Who would have guessed johns downfall would involve coke and a hareem of hookers...heard he was a rite demon in the bedroom.
Great days for crowd pleasing characters. I wonder if they would have raised their game to compete with the players of the modern era? Van Gerwen, Mike Smith, Luke Humphries, and the latest wunderkind Luke Littler to mention a few would beat them all playing their B game. Of course to be the very best requires stiff competition, would Bristow, Lowe, Wilson, Anderson, etc have risen to the challenge? We''ll never know.
40:02 johns face went red when he realised what he just said 😂
Is this available on dvd???
I believe the original press tools, hand carved from Scottish granite, have long since been destroyed 😬
I wish i could buy darts at those prices 😂
What a brilliant and weird video
Asmr
Soon Kier Stalins thought police will be making sure nobody has a fag indoors or out!!!!!
Darts 1st GOD, who knows what he could have achieved without the yips, Great bloke too and gone way too soon. Long Live The King
Dart boards have never been made of pig bristle! Where did John Lowe get that one from?
Percentage shots? Does 138 ring any bells?
£16 for a dartboard in 1983 would be £67 in 2024
What a gentleman. He has given so much to this game.
It’s funny how some how something simple like SlikSticks are still around and used today. Full circle moments….
I have a set since 2010. Obviously, I use it very rarely, but it still did not break.
In 2024 ebay loads of john pike darts
Ive been falling asleep every night to this for the past 3 weeks 😂 perfect ASMR
Same but in the morning getting ready.
Haha I keep coming back to it too.
laughing at how 16 times world champion threw at an incorrect angle hahahahaha
Or a lady..
The latest Luke Littler darts are £102 ... How things have changed!
Course they are.. Luke Littler is the most famous darts chucker at the moment. The price will come down once the hype as blown over!
Luke would batter this guy tbh
Liked what Eric said at the end He never bought us a drink either ..Too tight thats why . End of the day wasnt it now the late Sean Greatbatch who was the very first to get a 9 darter live on tv . Rip Eric and Jocky .
Sean greatbatch was the first player to hit a live 9 darter, but John lowe was the first player to hit a televised 9 darter
Eric Bristow the champion of the 70's 80's though he rated himself highly, It was great that he made this tutorial to play competition darts in his heyday, which will be the inspiration for many to be darts players for years to come.
best hairstyle in sports
John always.my no1 hero
At the very beginning of this video is the only time you see Eric throw three darts. Because he had Dartitis and really shouldn't have done this presentation. In my opinion the only thing he ever did that that belittled hisself. There are lots of things wrong here. Even sublimation.
Quite and inexpensive sport.... I wish that were still true 😂😂
Darts history, quality vid
100k in 1984 was savage money. Must be close to a million today
Got to be.
As of Jan 24, using the UK inflation calculator, it’s not as high as what I thought it would be. It worked out at £322,653.86. However, if he bought a property for £100,000 in 1984, i suspect it would be worth a lot more than 300 grand in 2024!
@@JohnShewbrook Oh god yeah.
fuck that game of cricket was intense. congrats to Rod. and 32:43 hahaha that was great!
Why is outer bull worth 50 in 01 but bull is worth dbl in cricket??
It's soft tip. On those machines they count it as 50. Crazy, right?
I have my unicorn John Lowe darts still, and all the original packaging from about 1980/1981. 21.6 grams, and yes from new they had short points. 😎
At 4:58 minutes in, some drunk bum shouts something out and totally puts Lowe off.
Double in double out, that's one way to practice doubles. I regularly throw doubles round the clock, on my own. Double 1, double 2, 3, 4 etc. Finish on the Bull's Eye of course. I think that's a better way to practice doubles.
I grew up throwing an original pair of John's phase 1 prototypes. When he wanted a shorter barrel. He gave a set to my dad (rip Terry) when John was given 3 sets/weights to chose from. A family member stole them the day after he passed away.
Does anyone have a copy of the tape Lowe refers to at the end??
Wish I would have watch3d this a year ago as a beginner. A great place to learn a lot in a short period of time. Outstanding
Great video, thanks 😊
So glad I found this
If it wasn't for Eric, the PDC would never have happened, Eric isn't just the legend of all time who trained a Bulldog into a pit Bull ( The power) he did so much behind the scenes for players rites, he always said, * I don't wanna be the richest man in the grave *, and it gutted us all, He went too soon, but he went where he loved best, outside the Echo arena on Premier league night, Hope ya still having ya Guiness Old Cock, RIP CC
He will be.
John Lowe could be a voice over artist
Great video
MY FAVORITE DARPLAYER ... JOHN LOWE. i'm a big fan of john many years. greetings from belgium
Back when darts was worth watching, not like todays manufactured rubbish. I don't think I've watched any darts at all since the late 80s. Could you imagine Jocky Wilson, or Bobby George playing the sawn off bodybuilder, Gerwyn Price? 😆 They'd probably both slap the gobby little twat.....it'd make good telly though 😆👍
Just heard him say for winning a game you could earn £10,000 for a final, I’ve just seen Peter Wright win £500,000 how times change! Lol
You could buy a house for that 40 years ago 😂.
John needs to do a range of audio book's to help insomniac's.
I kind of chuckle seeing how detailed british instructional videos are. But, you can learn alot watching to them.
