Great video with all the right detail ! Amazing to see how much more space you have on the left side of the engine bay to work versus the US cars that are left hand drive.
Thanks for the feedback, and Interesting point there about the left hand drive. There is definitely heaps of space on this side of the engine, which I guess comes in handy for a few items that get changed out on that side of the block (oil filter etc).. I guess you have lots of space on the other side to play with?
@@2ndGearLow Ya, we have a lot of space on the other side, but it's pointless. All the maintenance items are on the left side, like fuel filter, oil filter, battery, etc...
Excellent reference video. Saves me working out which spark plug socket to grab. FYI my 2000 105 has the wasted spark ignition system so I have the double electrode spark plugs and no dizzy. Slightly different.
Every time I go through a large puddle with a bit of speed water gets up onto my ignition leads. Causing the engine to misfire. It is self diagnosed and I’m pretty come that is the issue. Are the Bosch ignition cable waterproof or is this a silly question. It is self diagnosed through the fact that when I noticed the issue I checked my ignition cables. They were wet and I went to dry them and electrocuted myself 😂
Hi Jack, no problem, thanks for watching. Maintenance schedule is found within the Owners Manual Supplement. For 1997 FZJ80, it has to replace OEM spark plugs (copper) every 30k miles (48k kms) or 24 months / 2 years. They don't seem to give an ignition lead replacement interval, but these should be inspected when replacing plugs (e.g. you can check wire resistance, visually inspect wire). I had one of the spark plug leads sever in the tube previously, leading to that cylinder not firing consistently, so replaced all of the leads as they were probably the original ones and had degraded over time.
hey, for my 7th lead its identical on both sides except for two little numbers on each end. i dont want to plug it in the wrong way, so is there a way to tell the difference? (my old 7th lead is different, and has symbols on either end instead)
Thank you for watching and commenting! We generally recommend OEM, but needed the leads quickly due to a failure and Bosch was the next best thing, being a high quality aftermarket option. The main differences are that the Toyota lead set comes with the plastic lead holders (clips) and are preassembled, making it much easier to replace the full set in one go. The Toyota leads also have a retaining clip at the distributor cap end which seems more secure than the Bosch equivalent. Unfortunately OEM are much more expensive for this part in our area
Thanks NuttyNu, appreciate you watching and commenting. Agreed on the OEM - they are usually the best option if you have access to them, but unfortunately significantly more expensive than the aftermarket in this case. We had a lead fail (likely very old, OEM) and the Bosch was the next best thing available immediately
Best how to videos I’ve ever seen. Gives u confidence thank u
Thanks Frank, glad to hear it helped you out!
Nice work 🏆You have inspired me 👌cheers form Perth Australia 😎

Yeah that's not great.. the fuel filter is hard enough to get to for us!
Well done, just so helpful for me as I like to do as much of my own maintenance on my 105 series. Thank you
Thanks Leigh, glad to hear it helped!

Thanks for watching Brenton, we're glad it helped you out. Appreciate you pointing out the difference to the 105, cheers!
It was very good and informative. Good luck, professor
Thank you for watching!
Hey mate, your videos are great. Any chance of full belt replacements?
Hi Dan, thanks for the feedback! We are planning to do belts in a future video so stay tuned.
Thanks. Especially for the gap and the torque. What are the two air hoses into the filter? I don't have them...

Can u do a power steering pump change please
Could you do video on transmission fluid change.
Hi Whatahoro, thanks for commenting, we'll keep this in mind for future videos.
Great video. I’m about to tackle this on mine but I’ve got a gas system that I have to manoeuvre out of the way
Hi mate, thanks for watching! Hope you got on alright with the gas system
@@2ndGearLow thanks mate, all sorted with no dramas. Old plugs were crusty and it runs a bit smoother now.
Cheers for that video. How often should spark plugs and leads be replaced??

Hi mate, as always, great informative vid. Can you do a video on how to fix that darn pesky handbrake? Cheers
Hi Bryan, thanks for the feedback and we really appreciate your suggestion - it's on the list!

Thanks for watching Benni!
Thanks mate 👍
No worries Neil, thanks for watching
domt need grease on the terminals of the leads ???
Thanks gays 🌹
👍
Great job. I would prefer oem wires and also add dielectric grease on the wire plugs.
