The Ford Escort MKII and Fiat 131 Abarth were legendary rally cars for sure.

Me too. I had a fiat 125 . 1600 twin cam. And a fiat 132. 1800 twin cam. Very quick in their day. Over 30 years ago now !
my mate had the 1800 fiat coupe (I think 128??) - lovely handling. i had a 2l escort rally pack and my brother bought an RS2000 - into which he spent everything he had - pretty sure it was a cosworth with huge carbs he shoved in it..... uncanny handling of dirt roads.... both legends

Having driven 2 131 Abarths in my life , both Stradale , I can tell you , they were way better than the Ford , very much a track car without the ltd slip diff , the second was an animal , having been fitted with a Brospeed turbo , that was quick , but the drive was short , far too short . I nearly picked up one in 2001 , by the time I made my mind up , 1/2 hour later , it was gone , I still kick myself !
That Escort looks like it's got a lot of grunt, there were some serious black lines being left behind!
Both epic cars, and I love both liveries, they look so good! The Fiat just sounds better though.

What engine is that Fiat running does anyone know? As it doesn't sound like the Fiat engine. For me it's the Mk2 Escort. But both drives are fantastic entertainers. In 2 of my all time favourite Rally cars.
Love both cars.Can steer them on the throttle.The Escort with so much R&D how can it not be perfect? Both before the days of electronic gizzmos. Very similar but the Fiat should track better with the independant back end? Want my Fiat back ......... Dear Santa

No rev limiter on these cars standard back in the day unlike these two as I should know as I bent a valve on a twin cam 131 at 8000 rpm.

Generally yes, but in this case, judging by the way it was being over driven i doubt it beat the 131.

Paolo can go a bit. Put fiat twinc in the MK1 back in the day but it put a rod out due to my youth and heavy right foot.
