- After almost two years of spending hours every day on Kpop-related-activities, I thought now is finally the time to explore some new groups that I don't know yet and listen to songs I haven't heard yet! Today I'm checking out EXO for the first time ever and wow, I was so excited to finally know what the hype is all about!
Please let me know if there's any other Kpop Groups or specific songs (either EXO or any other group) that you think I should check out! After two years of catching up with BTS content I feel like I finally have the time to explore what else the vast world of Kpop offers without falling behind on BTS content 💜
This is my first time reaction to EXO Monster, aswell as my first time reaction to EXO Love Shot ^-^
Please leave any "fanwars" out of the comment-section. The idols are friends with each other and so should we be :) I added being a BTS Army because I found it to be a relevant piece of information for you guys to know my experience with Kpop Music so far, aswell as my degree of knowledge when it comes to what's going on in Kpop. This is a first time reaction to EXO and their songs Monster and Love Shot, but by far not a first time reaction to Kpop as a whole. There's certain expectations I already bring from prior experience with Kpop and certain things I'm not as surprised by as I would be if I hadn't been exposed to Kpop before regularly :)

EXO don't really stick to one genre. Every comeback is different. They have the most versatile discography. Their ballad songs are the best.
I'm not suuper big into ballads usually, but there's some that really grew on me after a few listens. Love to hear that they do versatile comebacks though 👏🏻 one thing I LOVE about kpop is having NO IDEA what to expect when reading a song title - so exciting ✨
@@Landyra i have a spotify playlist for exo ballads and chen's songs and i listen to them whenever i go to sleep. I recommend "Goodnight" by EXO if you find yourself having trouble sleeping.
Yep, exactly! That's so on point- exo doesn't stick to just particular genre. Perhaps the reason why audience really can't catch up while it's hot. They're so futuristic that their genre would only be a thing 5-7 years after, haha.

This will be a long one but I would like to stress some key points to EXO for you. EXO is the foundation of the 3rd generation. EXO revive the physical market of Korea in 2013, being the first group to sold million copies after 12 year drought. They are known of setting different trends in KPOP. They are first group to sold over 10 million copies, they hold the fastest sold ticket by 0.02, they are first kpop group to have song featured in Dubai Fountain, also they are first non royalty to have appearance in Burj Khalifa, they are first kpop group who beat Justin Bieber and One D in such award show, they are the first kpop group given the commerative medal of Korean Government, Korea give them the title of Nation's Pick, they are the first one to have bluetooth lightstick, they are first kpop group invited in Blue House and if there are any important political events, EXO are always the important guest. EXO is also the first idol who performed in Olympics and the first that EXO does go on.
EXO is known as a Vocal King. All of the members can be a main vocal as even the main rapper can sing so well. They are also known as a visual group. EXO Members shine differently.
We have models and ambassadors. (Ambasaddor of Gucci, LV and other famous brands)
We have actors (all of them acted except one member (Chen who is known as King of OST), D.O is the most famous Idol Actor acknowledged by different sector.
We have musical actor (some members are so active in doing musicals)
We have producers, composers and lyricist (two of our members known as producers and composers. They are the one one who arranged, compose, write and produce their own solo songs. Other members known as lyricist, they participated in writing of songs)
We also have multitalented idols who can sing, dance and act. All members are all rounded. They can play various instrument.
Lastly, they are also one of the funniest group ever
All their songs are famous. Maybe thats why it sounds familiar to you. And lastly, BTS looks up to them as their senior. Both groups are good friends

But honestly, if you take time to know us deeper, we are warm and friendly. We also welcome anyone from other fandom to our family. We are friends with VIPs, Blinks, Uaenas, Ahgases, Ikon and other many fandoms. Our fandom started the trend of making donations to charity, buying lands for members, building road or library, donating blood, planting trees and such. We really one of those fandoms who set the standard in making the Kpop Fandom a bridge to help the society. So dont be afraid if you will forget many keypoints as you said you even hard time remembering Blackpink lol, we will try to help you on the way and remind you to those important things.
Don't worry, as an ARMY I know the bad image that some few but very vocal toxic fans can give a fandom all too well. I believe all interactions that I've had with EXO-Ls so far have been positive, probably also because I'm already 23 and understand that some younger fans mean well when they're actually harming a fandoms name by being overly aggressive, so I try to stay far away from that side of twitter 🙈 But 99% of the comment section in this video has been heartwarming and genuine and I feel like you guys are really trying to support me on my journey 💕

I agree. If you’re a film student, Tempo and especially Obsession are absolute musts. And not to confuse you further, but Lit by Lay, EXO’s one remaining Chinese member. Lit literally is a short film rather than just an mv and it’s simply stunning.

bruh, EXO & theories are like a package. there is no exo mv without a theory and there's loads of it , the exols are actually a genius for even coming up with such things. Its sooo complex. And i also think EXO is famous for it.

EXO is a South Korean-Chinese boy group that debuted in 2012 and is often called the Nation's Pick & the Kings of Kpop. They are credited with reviving the kpop industry as 1 yr old rookies in 2013 with their first full album XOXO selling over 1 million albums, breaking a 12-year drought. They "promote" mainly in Korea and China in the past (promote is in quotations as SM barely ever promoted them after 2016) and are one of the most popular kpop groups in the industry despite the sabotage by their own company. They are the first kpop group to become quintuple million sellers and to have over 10 million album sales. Each and every member of EXO are also successful as soloists, subunit members, producers, actors, models, and brand ambassadors. In fact, Baekhyun has recently broken a 19 yr drought by becoming the first Korean soloist to sell over 1 million albums with his solo album Delight.
EXO started off with 12 members divided into 2 subunits: EXO-K (korean) and EXO-M (mandarin). Unfortunately, 3 Chinese members left due to mistreatment and mismanagement by SM ent and have filed lawsuits against the company. 1 Chinese member, Lay, remains in EXO but has not actively promoted with them since 2017 due to political tensions between China and SK, as Lay is a Chinese govt youth ambassador. EXO is currently in hiatus as 3 members are currently enlisted in the military. However, they have soloist/subunit debuts and comebacks in the meantime.
EXO has the most consistent & unique concept and storyline in kpop as they have continued their original concept from debut of being extraterrestrial aliens from EXOPLANET, each with individual superpowers.
EXO has boycotted many award shows after 2017 due to the horrific incidences of physical assault and violence shown towards EXO-Ls (fans of EXO) by Mnet staff when EXOLs became frustrated with the disrespect shown towards EXO. That day is a lot to take in as EXO was robbed, disrespected, and had EXO concert concepts plagiarized by Mnet. SM and Mnet have been feuding for years and this incident was the last straw for SM.
I suggest songs such as Growl, Overdose, Call Me Baby, Love Me Right, Lotto, Kokobop, Tempo, and Obsession for a better sense of EXO's title tracks. Thanks for your first reaction to EXO, hope you enjoy the group as much as exols do :)

Exo used to go to award shows like mnet and mama but after 2017 they treated EXO really badly, took away awards, stole their concept in a way, and even treated their fans bad to where they were crying while giving a speech so now they don’t show up to them anymore and now they are going into mandatory military and have stated that they don’t care about the awards anymore they just want to make good music for their fans but they are still well rewarded as ‘Nation’s Pick’ in Korea. Exo’s music are more focused on vocals and harmonizing, they are my ult group but I admit that they are more for vibey feeling like R&B

Perfect Man is Shinhwa's song. Shinhwa is a first generation group and was out of SM. Shinhwa is still active and are now the oldest k-pop group. They have never replaced or lost a member.
Dave EXO has a concept of parallel universes so the videos don’t necessary have to be in order. You search theory videos in UA-cam. EXO’s story line is very creative and unique

EXO discography is really diverse, you can find different genres in there. They are also fond of mixing diffrent genres and styles in a song. So if you are gonna dig deeper into EXO, prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride of vocals that you never thought you needed in your life and eargasms, of course.

Exo debuted with 12 members . 4 of them are Chinese. 3 Chinese member left and 1(Lay) member is inactive since 2017 due to some China Korea issues . Exo is korea's representative boy group and Lay is China's youth ambassador. So they really can't ignore those political issues. But Lay had a short appearance in Tempo. (2018)

Exo is a versatile boy group. Never repeated their music concept. Always tried something new and never failed to impress. They have been ruling K-pop industry for 8 years even after members leaving , SM mistreatment , with less promotion.
Ballad , R&B, hip hop anything you want you can find in Exo discography. From high beat to slow music there is nothing they don't have under their musical career. Even their solo works are Bop .

If you're an Army, then you're used to Bts hard hitting rap heavy style, Bts is geared towards that younger crowd, that era. Whereas Exo is a vocalist group more than anything, with more r&b backgrounds, pop, dance, funk, old school vibe that's my style, no need for a storyline or dire deep meanings, just groove....
I get tired of that in your face angry rap that can eventually be a total turn off, or that rigid way of dancing....I just want vocals, and Exo comes to my rescue.
I love Bts in certain aspects, I was there when they debuted, they blew me away....but Exo's vocals won my heart at their pre-debut 2 years earlier, and I love people who can sing well, especially live. I never thought of Bts or a few other groups as singers, they sing but idk.
That's why Exo are "The Vocals of Kpop", from their pre-debut song "What Is Love" to today, they have incredible harmonies and beautiful ballads. They are very busy guys without having to have a comeback every month, and I've listened to a few albums of some idol groups if I have the time when they come out, it's so much fun, but it's true, not every song is memorable, some are hit or miss.

Apparently your next exo reactions should be Call Me Baby and Ko Ko Bop ( based on the views ). Your reactions especially in Monster were quite good. Currently EXO has 9 Members ( it used to be 12 back then ) and they are really talented. If you really like their music, then you should listen to them more.
And EXO -SC ( a subunit ) is about release an MV on 13th. You can react to them if you want to. But also keep watching EXO too.
Oh, I had no idea there used to be even more members! I believe I heard some are already serving though, so that might be why? I gotta be honest, I don't have much background knowledge about them 🙈 I definitely enjoyed the two songs so far and will check out more! @@Landyra 3 Chinese members left in 2014-2015 due to mistreatment by their company. Now Lay is the only Chinese member in EXO. But since there are political issues between Korea and China, Lay is unable to perform with EXO, especially when he is the youth ambassador and face of China. 3 members are now in military and more will follow soon. So now they're in hiatus and will continue to produce solo/sub-unit albums for the duration.

They have a storyline since their pre-debut in 2011. I'm sure someone will explain it to you later. So most of their music vids are connected, and therefore sometimes they don't actually correspond with the lyrics. I will roughly explain some of it to you. Their concept was that they're aliens from EXOPlanet. All have superpowers. Their enemy is the Red Force so in the Monster vid they were imprisoned by the red force. This vid is actually a continuation from the Lotto vid where they were captured. In the vid, one disguises as the enemy so that's why you saw him rescuing them at the end of the vid. EXO is also vocal kings so it's best to react to their live performance. They have some of the best vocalists in Korea. They have 9 members and all are vocalists including the rappers.
I would've NEVER guessed this had something to do with Aliens!! Ah, Kpop storylines are so refreshing and unexpected! I'm planning to check out more of their music in the future, and if I like their other songs as much as these two I'm planning to educate myself on background and storyline 👏🏻 Thanks for the short breakdown!
@@Landyra EXO is basically aliens from EXOPlanet who have superpowers. They are here in Earth to open up a new world, where peace, love and respect are visible. They wanted to cast away all the bad things happening around however their big enemy called RED FORCE or the source of evil, prevented them to save the Earth

EXO's song lyrics are mostly love but really deep and emotionally fulfilling. Not only in romantic way but also as a friend, their songs gives so much happiness if you're down. AND their vocals do the 200% justice with all their songs. So you should really check out their B sides in your free time or in reaction, anyway you prefer. Thankyou.

Hmm.. Just my opinion, I think that bts appeal more to the younger generations, while exo appeals to all generations. Exo have a wider genre as compared to bts. Also, exo stages concept are generally nicer ( looking at the year when it's being produced-wolf, growl era).

Just because BTS debuted after EXO doesn't mean that BTS era are "new" BTS can sing in Japanese, just because EXO can sing in Chinese that doesn't mean they're better

Don't worry, I see what you're getting at. From a visual standpoint, I suppose? I really got big "bad boy"/"rebel" vibes from their styling in these two MVs, while BTS often have more "approachable" styling concepts. I also don't mind either, but was very positively surprised, especially considering Monster is 4 years old. I haven't been into kpop super long, but with older MVs I often kinda expect weird styling choices 😅 Then again, 4 years ago was 2016 and now I feel old!

Honestly irl exo are just introverts so while they do have a presence that makes it hard to approach they also don't want to approach people they aren't used to or people who will use them. :/ they're too trusting tho so that's sad for them bc they are genuinely nice and humble.

For a guide that isn’t too long I recommend Introduction to EXO 2020. There are also individual guides that are much lengthier you can find by searching A Guide To EXO by Mouma K. Also not sure if you know this but a lot of EXO and BTS members are really close like Baekhyun and V for one.

I'm always so excited watching someone discover EXO!! They are my BTS basically, my gateway into Kpop, and it was just a recent introduction for me (December 2019 or January 2020)! Actually, BTS was the first group that I listened to their entire album when they released their Map of the Soul 7 album. Which was probably the gateway to me deep diving into all of EXO's music. I've been waiting for this kind of videooo. I've been an exo-L since wolf-era and I'm proud of it. I witnessed the time when exo-Ls and ARMYs are still friends. Supporting each others in every single show. Not until the toxicity came in some our some co-fandoms and stained the fandom's friendship. Personally, I never fought in some other Kpop fandom 'cause honestly, I can't see the point of it because the idols themselves are friends with each other. Only the fandoms are fighting. I hate the fact that the immature fans keep on bashing the idols (whatever they're supporting and hating). The idols are ALL working hard and doesn't deserve to receive all the hate.
My best friend is an ARMY and I'm an EXO-L. We're supporting each other's stan. We really want to end the fanwar. :'
That's actually one of the reasons I decided to be very upfront about being an ARMY in my videos, and made it a point of context for new viewers - As someone that only got into Kpop when I was already 21, it was sad for me to see different fandoms that I'm a part of, like ARMY and BLINKs, fighting for no reason - often because some of the younger fans feel like this toxic behaviour is normal/expected. I hope this kind of video can help normalizing being nice and respectful to each other and supporting each other a bit more. I feel like BTS will probably always stay my absolute favourite, because they got me into Kpop and it really changed my life in a lot of ways, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy other groups or join other fandoms! The idols are friends and support each other, so we should do the same 💜

ah, where to start this 9 year history lesson? every1 already provided so much info. i just want to warn you that EXO is not going to be whatever u expect from a kpop group, not musically, not visually and most certainly not in their personas so just forget anything u heard. dont be surprised if you hear a lot of songs that sound familiar bcz they have endless hits. their concepts and the usual way of going abt the music might be a bit too intense for your "mild" sensibilities if youve only been exposed to the 4 groups u mentioned especially if you do live perf (those are where the real fun is as long as EXO is concerned) even if u think you have a song all figured out bcz its catchy, 90% of times its NOT gonna go the way u imagine it. they like to experiment A LOT so it will throw u off. not every1's cup of tea. so good luck bcz its gonna be a roller coaster ride of a lifetime bcz u have been missing out on the true goodness kpop has to offer.

That's why the whole nation of Korea chose them as the representative for Olympics 2018, and 2013 korean event, since the people know they won't mess up on live specially on vocals. Also, Baekhyun was chosen to sing the National Anthem in behalf of EXO and also Lay.
Originally they are 12. But now they're only 9 and 1 came back to china to pursue a solo career while the other's under the army enlistment and also doing solo.

I love how EXO is always on the back and see how BTS have grown. (I also checked that hahaha) but there's this issue in MAMA 2017 that they've been robbed off the award though the result favors EXO. (You can check that news on google)
I both love these groups so far. Bighit really invested on choreogphy and some of the members except namjoon and jin, were previous back up dancers. But it's really hard to sing with those choreography. Thankfully their voice can relax now and do acoustics and they are really good in song writing!
Meanwhile in SM, they really invested for the voice, visuals and other talent apart of being an idol. I just noticed this one since those who graduated in groups or even though they're still in the group, they are actors, models and tv show hosts and mc's. And EXO came from a well known bg. That's why there's alot of controversies between this 2 because of the bg issues or where they came of as BTS members so some of the tv hosts/celebrities did't like them cos of personal bg. Oh well..
