Mistake 1: Rereading rather than random recalling.
Random recall occurs when you practice a subject without knowing what the next question will ask - usually through a randomised quiz or a practice test.
Mistake 2: Highlighting and underlining. It’s every student’s favourite activity - highlight every line of the textbook!
You are far better off spending your time testing yourself with the randomised quizzes you often see at the end of chapters, or even better, the full practice tests you can get online.
You can do at least 12 full GRE practice tests from providers such as PowerPrep, Manhattan and Kaplan without signing up to the full expensive courses.
Mistake 3: Not spacing out your testing. You need to test yourself at regular intervals, to continually remind your brain that the percentage skills, critical reasoning strategies and advanced vocab that you have stored is actually useful and shouldn’t be deleted.
Between the intervals, of course, you can be relentlessly adding to your knowledge by completing the exercises in the Official Guides and Manhattan 5lb book, and by watching relevant video content and doing randomised quizzes wherever you find them.

Super helpful video.
At the start, I was just doing the 5lb book and when I completed it and started taking some practice questions I got a few of the (easy) questions wrong and forgot the "efficient way" to solve.
This was truly a mind opener!
Thank you so much Sir!
Thanks Aditya
Incredibly true. I feel like I've mastered a topic and then a week later I can't remember anything and even when I do, I'm much slower.
Very insightful video. Thank you Philip!
J’adore ta t shirt!!! c’est magnifique ! Et toi aussi 💕 this advice is gold! Also to add when you do the practice tests , it’s useless if one does not review the mistakes from tests . Thank you ! 11 more weeks until d - day for me !
You got a great insight. Thanks! :)
Thanks Vaibhav!
You are the best!
well i am writing the test on wednesday morning and ive done just a single practice because of the timing(was impromptu) but i trust that it will all go well since i have watched almost all your videos in addition to the textbooks.....wish me luck Philip!!!!!
super helpful as you say.
Summary of "Don’t Make These 3 Common Revision Mistakes":
1. Re-reading rather than Random Recalling!
2. Highlighting and Underlining!
3. Not Spacing Out your Tests!
Thanks, bro! God bless you. I'll be much careful about these things while reading!
Nice summary but the details matter too!
You are AN AWESUMMMMMMM TEACHER!!!!
Thanks shubhra!
This is by far the most valuable content I came across. nobody tells us how to retrieve the information. school, colleges nobody gave us this valuable information. I just completed manhattan 5lb and I had a hard time doing and recalling what I did in the first chapter. now I understand how important it is to take a discrete test in between to retain the information. otherwise, all your efforts are wasted. Thank you for sharing this vital and most important revision trick. this video is Gold!!
Thank you priyanka
It depends,, a good foundation should be established first. If not, people will always get confused.
Your videos are awesome. Keep posting.....
Thanks!
@@TheTestedTutor You are a real genius to score 340 in GRE. Is getting a 340 very difficult?
Love your video! I’m taking the GRE in two days. I’m nervous yet ready!
You can do it!
How did it go ? I bet you nailed it 💪🏾
pls need more explanation on randomize recalling and practice test. how to arrange practice test between mock test.
Thank you.
Not quite sure I understand the question Debashis?
Cool shirt btw 👌👌I'd like to have one like that if available online 🙃
Got it from ali express I think
I'm about to start studying for the GRE and I definitely appreciate your videos! Any particular books you enjoyed studying from for the GRE? There's so many out there!
Hey Katie, the Manhattan 5lb book is quite challenging but the best for high score aspirants! Good luck :)
@@TheTestedTutor Perfect, thank you! I got the official general study guide book and then the Manhattan 5 lb book! Time to study. . . : )
Though I am not writing GRE, but I think your advice of ;randomised recalling', which I think I can apply to my overall learning as well.
So, thanks for that part. :)
Plus, if you could share how do you speak so calmly and don't grope around words like they are naturally coming to you? I would love to learn that from you.
Thank you Lokesh, you are right, these tips apply to any test or learning experience. With the words, obviously there is a lot of preparation and editing, so I am not always that fluent in real life. Plus, on a subject on which you are passionate the words come more naturally anyway. I hope this helps.
@@TheTestedTutor I agree that if we are passionate about the subject we are speaking on, words flow naturally. Though I wished for words to come that naturally overall. Haha :)
Thank you anyway. Thanks for teaching me something important today.
Sir i will follow all your ethics. Hoping to repeat your score...
Good luck! It is tough, but let me know your progress!

Sir i am from india. I have gone through my vocabulary and completed it and now i am beginning my practice and mock tests which will continue for 1 month with full dedication.
@@kheersagarpatel3195 Good luck!

Highlights do help to revise faster... But now I am trying to random recall more.
Great!
What if your test is this week and you've only been spacing out your tests in intervals of 8? Would it be okay to cram in a couple more tests on the last week? Cheers!
Yes exactly, just not last 48 hours
Also I have noticed you haven't uploaded any new videos.
It's a good thing to take a break from the tedious task of making videos.
I hope you are doing okay and my best wishes to you and your family! :)
I have been ill but will be back to it soon ... thanks Aditya
@@TheTestedTutor Get well soon Sir! _/\_
Is it a problem to purchase a used GRE book? My concern is the being able to access the free material that comes with it when purchased brand new.
Depends which one. For the ETS official guide I think it's fine
I thought I was doing well with my prep but took a practice test today and got a 147 😞I was getting a predicted range of 155-160 on magoosh so I thought I was ok. Any tips on how to get past discouragement. I have 2 months left
Sorry to hear that Yaz. We always get bad individual tests, you just gotta follow the strategies I outline, in terms of amassing practice tests and practice questions, documenting mistakes, learning the tricks etc. You can get back to 160+.
The Tested Tutor thank you. I analyzed what happened on that exam and I made the silliest mistakes on so many questions, and left some blank I don’t even remember leaving blank. I’m just hoping that practicing like crazy and doing multiple tests will give me confidence that can offset the anxiety.
@@ynaa22 It will definitely help! Keep us updated.
The Tested Tutor will do, thank you!
I liked your t-shirt. Can you drop a link for buying it?

you just highlighted "spaced repetition" method :)
Sir, I fucked my first attempt on 13th July 2019. Planning to give the second attempt in 15 days from now. Please give me some advice as I wish to improve my verbal.
Did you run out of time? Try skipping the hardest 2-3 questions. Did you not know a lot of words? Boost your vocab by 50-100 words a day over the next two weeks.
@@TheTestedTutor No, I know more than 1000 words. Yes, I was struggling with time as I was unable to give ample amount of time to each question.
@@mridulgupta3569 OK, so try guessing the hardest 2-3 questions that come up. This should give you time for the easier ones. This applies particularly to the first section of the test.
