1:26 I’ve always been highly impressed with the ingenuity you and your Dad have put into the layout over the years. Engineering the backdrop to SLIDE out of the way is pure genius!
Your new swing door is an engineering and artistic marvel! I have a similar situation I need to attack in my train room so I've been scouring articles and videos for solutions. Yours might be the one I need to base mine from. Good thing I can slow down and pause this video!
JC does it again!!! Seriously, Josh never fails to impress with these layout updates. Anyone who would disagree, I will never understand why. I’m already looking forward to the next one. Some of the things you have done on the layout really makes me want to incorporate the ideas in a future layout. I love the door trick you did. That’s one of them, and I’m really excited about the traffic lights whenever that would be. I have been wanting to do working traffic lights on a layout tied into the grade crossing gates, but I haven’t seen much of cool ways to do it.

Have to keep saying it: Mr. Parnell's signals are astoundingly good! I think perhaps the best models I've ever seen. Even that signal at the start is fabulous (other than missing numbers)!!

super cool. So many really cool ideas on this layout from the overall packaging of everything to the functioning coal dump/tower and now this gate. Great job, very impressive
First time seeing your layout, and I must say, it looks REMARKABLE. I love the little attentions to detail here and there, but what I'm really impressed with is how you're having the layout still be functional despite a door being in the way. I can imagine how much planning went into that, not just on how to actually make the door work, but also have the tracks line up perfectly to avoid derailments. Very very nice. I used to have a model railway in my grandma's attic, but it was painfully amateurish compared to this. I can just feel the passion for the hobby as you showed many new aspects. Bravo, sir.
Finally pulled the trigger last wk: got a Dash9 NS loco, 7 cool cars, & a nice-sized loop of Unitrack. Just waiting for the Power Cab and feeders to get here! My 1st rig.

I mostly see CSX in my town un Indiana but there are two short lines that come into town as well. Indiana Railroad and another that comes from Illinois. I do see foreign power but rarely able to see them.
Y’all’s layout is probably one of the coolest out there. It’s got so much detail it feels like one of those huge layouts that stretch forever , but really it’s in a kinda small room.
Glad to see an update finally... , missed seeing your layout , the new swing door with the backdrop , well done. Had been wondering when you would be back , definitely looking forward to seeing more , Tc, Cheers.

That's the most over engineered door I've ever seen. I LOVE IT!!
The Wreck scene is such a good idea. There's a similar scene on a highway bridge along the Kingston Sub where I work. A tractor trailer had gone off the highway and burned right next to the tracks. The truck was removed but the remains of the trailer are still on the hill down from the highway by the tracks. Just outside Kingston under the 401 highway bridge. Not as major as a railcar but definitely an interesting sight

I just recently moved to downtown KC, and there's a section of track nearby that has BNSF rail crossing over UP and CPKC's lines. There's tons of trains passing through here, and it's got me wanting to try my hand at painting and weathering a locomotive. I may need to grab one off of ebay to see how I like it compared to model tanks.
I'd love to see the interstate unit running around more, I love that unit

Thanks for the update, that new gate is a genius idea. That CSX AC6000, I thought they had been downgraded to 5000hp with new prime movers and new control systems as used in the AC4400s.
You should pick up some walthers proto amfleets, some walthers viewliners, and two more p42s so you can model the silver star as it comes through North and South Carolina

Been following you since 2008 when you posted a short video of a Norfolk & Southern Loco running back n forth it’s been a fantastic journey & as I live in the UK it’s been a brilliant introduction to the world of American railroads & model railroading

Looks great, I like the old siding on the swing door/bridge, just a thought should spike in a couple sections of rail at the warehouse and put an old rusty box car on the track with weeds growing up into the trucks, underside. Would add some interest, conversation piece and you’d be representing real life, wasn’t uncommon for warehouses to do this for more storage space.

I am an old billboard guy and would suggest a small billboard that would be seen every time you show your layout or train. The ad could feature a call to action to subscribe and like the video and/or other social media platform symbols.

Awesome layout brother. I had one started but it ended up getting destroyed when I left home for a month. I've got all kinds of locomotives and rolling stock and tracks but nowhere to set a layout up
I needa see some more Asheville graffiti! Big art town, and you’d definitely score extra points if you have real Asheville artists on ur cars, i mean they could be from anywhere since trains get around but seeing some local artists on there would be so dope

You should definetly get a CN EF-644n or any type of CN locomotive when you can to go along with those 2 BCOL engines you have

Fantastic to see the layout in is current state and the projects you are working on. Have you considered an oil or enamel pin wash for highlighting the rivets?
I have, but I could get the pin-point look that I was going for. Mayve I was doing it wrong... I will have to revisit the idea. It would definitely save lots of time!
Looks really good, did you get the track realigned with the door? It looked a little bit out of alignment
How do you program your Ditch lights to flash like that? I have a soundtraxx but I might use lokssound in the future, and I can’t get mine to flash
You should make one of those quirky patch jobs like the CSX Dash 8 with the X on the door larger than the other 2 letters
