    Hey Terje, thanks so much for the video. I was going to purchase the Pac bay wrapper and after watching this I changed my mind and bought the Alps one instead. So happy with it, no problems.

    I see your frustration and thanks for the video. Your Pac Bay wrapper has some similar parts as Forecast, maybe they are the same company and still can't get it right. It is to bad when you spend a lot of money and the dealer sends you junk. I have a forecast wrapper I put a couple of large rubber bands slip them over the tip of my blank and slide them down over the jaws of the chuck to hold them closed, ridiculous! My switch started going bad after my 3rd rod, I was hand turning the rod while trying to fix the switch during drying. Grrr. For the money you have to spend on a power wrapper that works well I would rather get a lathe and 3 idlers to hold my rod. The lathe would sure come in handy for grips, reaming etc. Since I only build rods for myself and family the Forecast will do.

    Mudhole sells the Pac Bay chuck by itself as an upgrade. They call it deluxe and this baby is built. I buy from Mudhole you have watch them and shop around.

    Dude, I also have the Alps upgraded chuck and it started having the same issues, even with the setscrew firmly torqued down. What I do now is either wrap a rubber band around the end of the blank before chucking it up, or use a piece of shrink tubing in the same manner. No more issues.

    This things has a few quality issues, The chuck does come loose and a lot of slop in the chuck.
    The rubber inserts do slide out, I had to glue mine in. One time had the rod and inserts come loose when drying epoxy and had to sand big drops off the rod. I would buy this again.

    As a rod builder it escapes me why anybody would be running the wrapper at that speed for such a long time. It would easily wrap the entire blank

      It's not running fast. Only looks so in the film. The speed is what I use for underwraps on guides and the time is about what I use on two or three guides.

    My machine came with the plastic chuck and worked better than your aluminum one, but still a piece of crap! I finally ordered an ALPS upgrade chuck. It's due to arrive in the mornings mail, can't wait! !!!!

    how does it work with the grips installed? Don't think I have ever turned a blank where I tried to get the chuck to grip a bare blank.

      Mounting the butt cap is always the last thing I do. With this in place, it is the shape of it that determines how well it is gripped by the chuck.

    You don't ever need to go that fast anyway

      It's not running fast. Only looks so in the film. The speed is what I use for underwraps on guides and the time is about what I use on two or three guides. Seven years and 700-800 rods since I made this film. I haven't had a single blank come loose since the change. Before the change every single one came loose.

    have your motor turn your chuck clockwise

    • @terjegrnseth9633
      @terjegrnseth9633  7 років тому

      It is turnining clockwise. You see it when the chuck starts and stops.

      That is depending of what side your thread carriage is mounted.

    Helps if you actually use some effort tightening the chuck..That design of chuck is bad all together. Reason no real lathe uses a crap tightening design like that. Get a chuck for a mini lathe.
