I run the Palomar Max Mod regulator in my Lincoln, put it in on day one. Its a little bigger and you have to drill a new hole for it, but I think its well worth the trouble.
Hi 👋 great video! I am currently working on the same exact radio for the same exact issue and was wondering if the replacement of the tip36c fixed the issue???? The collector and emitter on mine also shows continuity but I believe sometimes they do even with a good transistor 🤷♂️ also I think that trace looking the way it does is just factory as mine was exactly the same ! I am almost thinking mine has shorted resistors back there by the power connector but I could be mistaken and hope I am ! Let me know if ya got it repaired and how please and thank you for the great video!
Hi thanku! The collector emitter should never show continuity.put dvm on diode test it should only read a diode drop(.65v) approx. In one direction only.you likely (may) have lost a final mosfet.that was case.driver mosfet was fine but lost one of the two finals.replaced both finals at any case.be careful getting that tip trn.outta there.plated through holes can be a real bitch.have a good vacuum on a solder sucker.if u run into any trouble lmk.thanks for watching!
@@generalingwer4341 yes sir, thank you ! I Will also check the finals, yeah the tip36c read right around. 541v on both the collector and the emitter in only one direction off of the base like it was supposed to but the emitter and collector together showed continuity so I will replace it thanks 👍
@@justinf6951 great ok.just keep in mind, ull have to find what caused the regulator to fail before power up.id hate to see u blow a new regulator.its very likely one or more of the three mosfets.also check reverse polarity diode to make sure its not shorted.close to power jack on board.u can check it in circuit...it wont ""cause"" a blown regulator, but if it was wired backwards,it will short and blow fuse on power up..good luck!!
Yes indeed, I tested the finals last night and sure enough they showed a short so I pulled all 3 and one of them is actually shot so I will replace them and see what happens! Thanks 👍
@@generalingwer4341 yeah your correct on this as there is somthing else on the board that is shorted because the contacts where the finals would go shows a short without the transistors in place even though they are all removed, had replaced them and the radio powers up fine and recieves great but no tx power out, the power connector on the back of the radio no longer shows a short but the final pads do 🤷♂️
Hey there, my issue is a little different. It blows the fuse the second I key up. I imagine it’s the transistors? If I were to just order some new ones and try repairing it myself which ones would you recommend? I’m cautious to just order the first thing that pops up on eBay.
Hi thanku for watching.there are two videos on that repair.people generally miss one and say are u still waiting on parts.lol.im kinda guessing your voltage regulator is ok.first check that your fuse is 12amp.mine had a 15 but I think it should be 12a.id order three mosfets from digikey or mouser electronics.id avoid ebay, only last resort.the numbers are fqp13n10.mine were made by "on" semiconductor.then I'd buy a cheap fet tester on Amazon like I used in my video.there could be any number of the three bad.following my video when I tested them and replaced may be helpful.good luck sir😀.
@@generalingwer4341 hey thanks for the reply. Well my fuses are all 6amp I couldn’t imagine that even with the RF all the way down it would draw over 6amps so I’m guessing it must be a short? Idk what size fuse was in it originally but I’m scared to increase the fuse size and risk burning stuff up lol
Yeah u don't wanna burn a trace off board.if powers all the way down, I'm very much doubting it would blow a 6amp unless fets are bad.id put a 10 to 12 in it,if and when it blows, ull know for sure a fets bad.sounds like there is a shorted one.if u need any help with repair, leave me comment.my cheap fet tester was 35$.not sure what the inflation has been on them.start fixing my friend😃
@@generalingwer4341 much appreciated! Which tester did you get? I’m seeing a few on Amazon was it the “Aidepeen” or something like that? Did you say you had a video on repairing the finals in the Lincoln 2+?
@@ChristiannTyler yes ,there should be two videos on replacing fets, one video says "4star" on it.should be two videos close in time frame.the girls name was starr.the tester was a long runner tester tc1 from amazon.its a Chinese p.o.s but.lol.its good enough to show u a bad fet.radio has one driver and 2 final fets.its probably one or both finals.side by side.president Lincoln ii 4star,if searched, should bring up video.good luck🙂
Hello! I want to getsome clarification on a question or two. They say this radio can be modified to have the am 40 channel for cb use, if this is done , would I have the ham set up as this radio was built for also or am I losing a function? I appreciate your time and this video. I like the presdent line for I have the McKinley in my truck and want to use the Lincoln 11 + for a base. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. they came from europe on ebay.sure that seller probibly not having them now.mouser electronics was out at time, and they werent expecting them to come in for another year or more.mouser would have been much cheaper.theres two versions of that particular part number i believe ,so watch what u order.good luck.
@sleeve8651 it should be listed as president lincoln ii plus 4 star part 1,im not sure why i listed it as part one.it think it was entire repair of regulator and fets for girl named "starr".its been awhile.🙂
I will be picking up one of those suckers! Great video.
Lol.jonard dp-100 amazon best deal ,best quality.
