    I was in a crew chief billet for 6 months at Hickam AFB in the ANG assigned to a KC-135 in 2000....it was taking a long time to get a school date and I felt in a way all they were were part order clerks on the flight line....I had a friend in CE and he told me about the 4 month building school so I switched and I did love the school, but in the end I should have stayed with the KC-135 and the ANG unit there.....but I am still blessed..........retired in 2017 as TSgt and got my retired id card and pension at 60.....

    Pilots fly the machine but these guys are the real "aircraft owners"... so pilots must treat their planes with care.

      @@moitoi4064 Uh.. you know what he means. And crew chiefs are kinda legit the owners of their jets in that sense. They get the final say on if the jet flies or not, they maintain it, they house it in their hangar, etc.

      @@danielraul1989 We had one engine troop who was a TIGHT fit getting past the inlet strut.
      Self and and another motor toad determined by experiment that two peoples posteriors can block the intake to hotbox the troop doing a fan inspection. This is especially deadly after a night of soju and kimchee.... Just another day on the line.

      @@DChuaZE Much better idea, probably due to one going down an intake somewhere.
      I watched from too far to stop it when a forms binder got sucked off the intake lip at Pope and turned to confetti by the fan and scoped engines after other FOD but never saw missile accessories consumed.

      @@traceywhite30 Actually, a lot of bases are training crew chiefs to not connect the G suit or strap in the pilot anymore unless they specifically request assistance. Also, whether you're a 1 level or a 7 level launching, procedure is exactly the same.

Also, this comment was 4 years ago so what bases are training crew chiefs to do "now" isn't relevant. Thanks again for your for input though, buddy.

      Current crew Chief,
      Aim9 is most likely a dud used for home base training sorties, gets removed before pilot gets to the spot.
      The proceed signal can pretty much be done in any variation as long as the message is clear.
      I’ve literally never seen someone strap a pilot in, its always done by the pilot.
      Why are you so angry?

    • @hodgesjoshuab
      @hodgesjoshuab 5 років тому +3

      Per T.O., aim 9 -21 gets removed prior to aircrew steps.

      @@tehClew I served from 80-00. The missile is called a CATM, for Captive Air Training Missile. At least until I retired, the cover was never removed from the seeker head until the engine was running. Crewchiefs back in the day almost always strapped a pilot's parachute straps.

      lol we're all pogs, but those pogs have one job, help get a grunt back home. Quicker we can sign off, quicker we can fix it, the quicker you stop being pinned down and start casevac. If we do it right, you come home, if we fuck up, the guys working the chow hall, they're also mortuary services. I prefer my services guys making steaks, so I'll bust my ass getting that 16 in the air so when a grunt prays for rain, he gets it. And after I shower from all oil, fuel, grease and bird guts, maybe there's a nice well earned steak. And if we do meet, beer is still on me cause I'm happy your retarded ass made it home to call me a pog.
