great videos , really helped me rebuild my column, thank you so much. I do have a question though. My particular column has damaged horn parts. where can i find those horn parts that you guys said were brand new and never used when you put them back in the column? Thanks so much again for all your help.

My favorite part of making these is hearing the "how it went" stories, so thanks!
Horn parts... to be honest I'm not 100% sure where in the video you're referring to. Maybe @38:13? At that point Dylan is reinstalling a turn signal cam he first installed as its own project (ua-cam.com/video/57E0VrOXHg0/v-deo.htmlsi=EfbsUJ19CEIIz7S3). The wire sticking out of the turn signal cam is for the horn. You can see how it gets used in the steering wheel upgrade video (ua-cam.com/video/MChdj8Ye4Rw/v-deo.htmlsi=OENjXz7G5x5GzHIp).
The exact part numbers we used can be found the description of each video. That way you can shop around and find the best deal. If anyone asks where I got a specific part, I'll answer the question, but in general I'm not going to promote any vendor.

Thank you. I had some steering wheel wobble, and turns out my bearing was shot because my column didn't have the inner race at 37:24.

Great vid. This really helped me with putting my 4th gen column back together. Got a question, doing my first column rebuild and my upper bearing race (where it slides onto the shaft and seats against the upper bearings) doesn't want to slide on without some tapping on it, but when I dissembled the column, it slid right out. That doesn't sound right does it? No right? Im just thinking if I tap it on I'll never get it back off. Anyway, appreciate the video!

Thanks for the feedback - the sole purpose of this channel is to help people, and it's always great to hear when it did.
The column rebuild in the video was our first too, so I'm hardly an expert. But I will still give my opinion: you don't want any gap between the inner race and the shaft, so a fit that requires a little tapping sounds perfect to me. Maybe the old one stretched a little or maybe it was just made a tiny bit bigger in the first place.

I have been having problems with my steering column. After tightening the 4 bolts, I was putting everything back together (note that I was doing this in the car, and did not go as extreme as you two). I am having problems with the ignition switch, you were messing with it at about 18:10. My car is usually on accessory when I put the battery back on. Think you could help me out if you can?

Don't know if I can help, but I'll try. Is the problem that your switch (the electrical switch) is in the Accessory position when the key is in the Off position? Since Accessory is right next to Off, maybe the position of the electrical switch just needs to be adjusted. They way it mounts allows a certain amount of movement, either sliding up or down on the column. That's the first thing I would check.

@@WorkinOnIt hey, I got that fixed thank you so much for responding though. Do you know how to remove the gauges? I’m trying to fix my speedometer and am having trouble getting that off

Where I can get the bearings???

    • @WorkinOnIt
      @WorkinOnIt  Рік тому +1

The Rack Kit (listed under Parts Used in the video description) has the bearings inside the column. You can get that kit several places. Without any inside information on quality, we just tried to find the best deal. Ended up buying it on Amazon, but I know it's sold on eBay and probably many other places.
The bearing at the very bottom of the column is the Lower Steering Column Bearing Assembly.

@@WorkinOnIt Just to make sure I understand, does it matter that one of the bearings includes an inside race and not both?
Also, do you have any tips on how you removed your original outer races? I was going to try just prying them out with a flathead.
Thanks for posting this video, extremely helpful rebuilding my 81-Z column.

@@justin________7477 Thanks for the questions. The outside-race-only bearing mounts on the bottom of the aluminum hub. If you look at the shaft, just above the pivot, you can see that there's an inside race that is effectively permanent (very hard to get off and you're not supposed to). We briefly discuss it in our teardown video here: ua-cam.com/video/AfemEtp1x0E/v-deo.html.
To see how we removed the outer races, check out our teardown video here: ua-cam.com/video/AfemEtp1x0E/v-deo.html.
It's always great to hear that a video was helpful - thanks for the feedback!
