It's not all about Sapporo | Asahikawa Winter Festival 2020 J P

You might have heard of the Sapporo Snow Festival, but did you know about any of the other festivals that happen in Hokkaido each February?
In this video, you can see what we found when we made the 90 minute train journey from Sapporo to Asahikawa for their Winter Festival, which started in 1947.
It's much less crowded than the Sapporo Snow Festival, with more of a community feel (and much colder!!). We also finally got to meet two of the elusive Yuru-chara mascots in person - Asappy and his girlfriend Yurikkurin! There are two sites - the Asahibashi site, near to the bridge, and the main Heiwadori street, where you can find the international ice sculpture contest - you'll see more of that in a future video!
Asahikawa City has announced that the festival will be taking place in 2021, although it is likely not to be possible for overseas tourists to attend because of the travel restrictions. You can find out more about the Asahikawa Winter Festival here: www.city.asahi...
