Here in the USA, this switching configuration is oftentimes found in older farmhouses with an outbuilding with receptacles constant hot, a yardlight in between, and a pair of 3 way switches controlling the yardlight from the house and outbuilding, using 3 wires instead of 4, not counting the ground. Banned by the NEC in 1923 but installed as recently as the 1960s, even '70s because it saves a wire. There are 4 possible switch positions. N-N = light off H-N = light on. H-H = light off & socket remains energized. N-H = light on & reversed polarity.
