You guy's are awsome I'm 61yrs old and have had many square body pickups and Blazers over the years, I love that you are bringing them back, eventually I will have another one and I know who to call now, keep up the great work
Just bought a 83 chevy k20 with the 350 and a 4 speed manual transmission + working snow plow. 3 grand, drove it over an hour home with no issues. Rusty body but good frame. Very happy
I agree with ya , I'm an amateur squarebody builder things that I've done for my build i wouldn't do for someone else's. I'm happy with my builds but they are very budgeted. There are things I would change looking back but hey sometimes u can only do what u can do. I totally agree with what u said about the guy buying his dream truck already done. The trucks in your garage are very nice, thanks fir showing and sharing.
Nice! Just picked up all original ‘76 k25 with the 4 speed. Rust free but she’s been sitting for 10+ years. I love seeing these trucks get more popular
Dude, you nailed it,I to, ALWAYS question the modern prices a lot and now see it different than I did, thanks, another thing you touched on,kinda hit close to home about working, then spending all your other time involved with a build,it consumes you to say the least,so I very much can validate 100% of THAT myself, thanks for the video brother ❤️💪💯
I'm a Dodge guy but owned several Chevy's in the 1980's. Recently purchased a 1978 GMC K15 Stepside that literally needs everything. I'm working on it on nights and weekends. Really enjoyed your video. Straight, to the point, good information. I've got a 1986 Chevy long bed Silverado 2 wd , 305, th 350 tranny (slips) for $1800. Truck needs total restoration but would be a good project for someone. Check it out on marketplace in West TN. Mike
Just want to say I love your guys style on these squares. I’m 28 and just picked up my first square last year; a 1978 GMC Jimmy. It’s in about the same shape as the tan one you guys are selling (before you guys worked your magic that is) picked it up for $3500 and drove it from Clarksville Indiana back to clermont Kentucky and honestly felt like I stole the thing. Hopefully in the coming years I can get it close to y’all’s spec because man the squares you guys are putting out are bad ass. Good luck with the channel, I’ll be here watching and taking notes 💪🏼
Love the vids, love the trucks top notch quality. Don't think 305 was ever only available motor from 81-86....always could get a 350. Actually not sure you could get a 305 in a 3/4 or 1 ton especially k-series. Lots and lots of 305 in 1/2 tons and blazers though. Like you first vehicle was a square, a 79 k10, loved that truck drove the wheels off that thing. Through the years since had a 87 v10, 85 k5, 77 k20 and now a 78 c15 Royal Sierra I'm building. Keep up the great work!
we try not to get to long winded on these and overlook details but we were going to say (but didnt) .. 1/2 tons are the 305 we were reffering to being the only option... and we cant contest to it be "only" option as there was the 6.2 also... but we can say we tried to order several with a 350 during this time 81-86 and it could not happen ... 3/4 or 1 tons were so rare but i do think you were right you could get a 350 there but again not 100% sure there either. We do know 5.7 started back in 87 across the board but we deff appreciate the input. We only know what history we can remember lol and that is hard
WOW ! Built my own One off 75 Chevy Nova bolted to a 77 Blazer Frame , Dana 44 front end with Warn lockin / lockout hubs , 12 bolt rear , 350 small block, 11 inch clutch , 4 speed trans, 33 inch Mud Tires on 6 Lug rims , 3 foot to the bottom of the door
Great channel man, glad I came across it. I always have a little bit of fun money and a little bit of time. That's what I had in mind when I picked myself up a 1977 GMC Sierra K15., bought it knowing full well it will be a 7 year project. I don't have the cash to go out and buy a $40,000 truck in a day like I want too but with a little bit of money and a little bit of time in 7 years I'll have Olivia on the road. Like you said it's all on what ya wanna do and how you wanna get there.
Exactly. We supported both ways but we just get tired of people having a fit when they see the prices within. It’s kind of funny when two days later, they’re already sold every single time.😂 Thanks for the support will definitely have some more content coming.
@@DavisDrivesI'm 50 years old my first vehicle I bought when I turned 16 was a 76 Jimmy, followed by a 78 Chevy K10, followed by a 79 Blazer. Haven't had or drove a Square body in almost 20 years. It will be nice when I get mine too what I see in your video. Everything costs money yet everyone expects it to be super cheap or free. Your 10 door Suburban is kick ass man, beautiful work, looks amazing! Just wondering do you export to Canada?
That M1008 CUCV pickup originally had single headlights & all of those US Army pickups & K5 Blazers were 4 wheel drive & had 6.2 litre diesel V8s in them. Also I think they were produced from 1984 through 1987 if I'm not mistaking.
Yes, that is correct. Of course this one had a full restoration including the front grill radiator support, and other items changed to make it more of a Silverado look
I had to sell my 1980 k20 16 years ago. It had a 350 with an RV cam, turbo 400 trans, 205 transfer case, rear LSD. 4 inch lift with 33s. Miss that truck. Just bought a one owner 1975 k20 all original. Having direct fit AC installed before it comes to Texas.

They aren't trucks in good shape. They are 3k-5k in good shape, and you can sometimes find them for less. the ones in nice shape (look factory) go for 7k-10k out her in California. And the trucks we have out here are sh%boxes like back east. That's why they over pay for them.
they are running thin in the average to good shape category thats for sure. Im sure there are still some honey holes out there but most seam to be real expensive or really junk @@TheOnlyBlackInMeWasWillieBrown
87 is one year only tbi fuel injection plus there getting harder to find plus price keep going up. I had one 5 years ago body custom work upgrades ready for to be painted after I had cowl hood, role pan French in , fantom grill and shave drip rail and mirror , lock handle and side marker lights plus trim. wish I didn't let sell it.
I love the trucks do you ever do the obs Chevy’s… I have 4 of them they are cheap to buy here in Tennessee get them for 200-7500 .. I’m sending a 1995 off to get done and a 1990
Some very interesting history on those square bodies is believe it or not, evolution on them started in 1968 which was when development on them began. At the time, vehicle components underwent simulated testing on computers before the prototypes were built for real world testing. People drew pictures & built clay models of different truck designs to try to think what they wanted their next generation trucks to look like. At the time, none of the designs they drew & built looked close to the square bodies until at the beginning of the 1970 model year which I'll get to that in a minute. In 1969, a concept pickup was built & it looked similar to the redesigned 1972 Dodge fullsize pickup & originally their plan was to start producing the next generation trucks in the 1972 model year but got pushed back to the 1973 model year instead because other people didn't like the design on the concept pickup so they went back to the drawing board to try to think of a different & better design. Later on December of 1969 "1970 model year", the clay models being built began to look more like the square bodies & it wasn't until during the summer season of 1972 when a design was liked & picked, & that's when they began producing the real square body models. The real square body models were produced up through 1991 except for the plain cab pickups & medium duty series models. The half ton & three quarter ton plain cab pickups were the models they stopped producing first which was in 1987. The same happened to the one ton plain cab pickups & medium duty series models in 1989. In 1990, the three quarter ton crew cab pickup was dropped which made the one ton two wheel drive crew cab pickup with single rear wheels the base model on the square body pickup lineup. Also in 1990, new optional power side mirrors were introduced but were only offered on the square body SUVs.
@DavisOffRoad1 in 1987, the C/K series were dropped & renamed R/V series & the reason for the name change was to make a distinction between the square body models & the upcoming next generation C/K series trucks which were the OBSs for the 1988 model year because both of those body designs were going to be in production at the same time which lasted up through 1991. They wanted to help people avoid confusion with the two different body designs. From 1988 - 1991, the OBSs only came in plain & new extended cab pickup models at the time because crew cab pickup & SUV models with the square body design were still in production up through 1991. The one ton plain cab pickups were the only models to come in both of those body designs at the same time which was from 1988 - 1989.
The funny thing is watching your videos is I’m sitting here nodding yes as you talk prices, but I bet other people that aren’t car/truck, guys/girls are shaking their heads thinking the prices are crazy but when you love this stuff in reality it’s expensive but worth every dollar. I’ve built some mid 70’s Fords and now dodge diesel’s, it ain’t cheap but it’s worth every minute and dollar when they’re done.
Very few people understand What kind of cost and labor goes into these trucks to make them what they are when we sell them. The other issue is there are still people living in a blue book value world. Blue book value hasn't been relevant in 5 or 6 years. Even more so when referring to classics
It aggravates me that all the wannabe cool guy's want these trucks now. Ive almost been priced out of a childhood dream because of it. You can still find driver k10s 20s and m1008s for between 6500- 10k. Anything beyond that and i have to start considering emissions crackdowns and the government regulations making it an unwise investment.
From what we see most all of it is generational shift where people that can now afford these that are in their late 30s 40s and 50s whereas they only dreamed about them as a kid 95% of our sales have been that exact situation. Customers are better off in life and now able to afford their childhood dreams or head on them back then and not able to afford to keep them as life change children came along single cab trucks became less desirable, etc., it’s not just with these vehicles it’s with lots of other things, the Dodge Viper, the Corvettes obs fords etc
That’s just how it is in our area and most others unfortunately matter effect of $15,000 paint job just got picked up the other day. It was over five years in the shop.
It’s the worst part of the industry after they leave there they come to us. Average time is well over one year realistically 3 to 5 in most cases not saying that’s everywhere just most of the areas around us customers vehicles all over the country.
Not true about 81-86, 305 being the only option. 350/305/6.2/7.4 were options depending on the model, K10/K5's came equipped with either 305's or 350's or 6.2's.
Again when we wanted to order 1/2 ton trucks with any other gas option it was the only option in 81-86 as we were ordering them for fleet customers. 3/4 and 1 ton diff story but as “our” experience you couldn’t and we even tried special ordering also. Not arguing the fact just know what we dealt with in that era
Unfortunately, we do not get involved in the body and paint work unless it’s a square body those are the only ones that we work with on that type Repair, etc.
Well hell I don't know where you're trying to find the trucks but they are way cheaper than you say. A local body shop does high quality color change for 6,000. 1300 for interior. I know I've gotten quotes for my square body. But if y'all wanna pay lots of money then I've got one or five for sale....
This is the exact comment that we knew would come. If you truly have some for sale we will back our statement up with cash for one or 5 and have your quality shop paint them and do the interior asap. If they can do it great we are 100% all in for that deal
I a 87 gmc short bed stepside no rust all original throttle body 350 automatic transmission new front drive shaft new drag link new throttle body , what's it worth?
Lol...I have s buddy who was whining about the price of squarebody chev's until I asked him how much a brand new pos costs because let's face it, new trucks are absolute junk.
I bought one for $300, needed the kingpins redone though. Swiped calipers and other brake stuff from a r30 parts truck I had. It's a dually front axle though
Correct the comment was based on half tons. Should’ve been more clear on that as they were very few three-quarter and one tons. Not that there weren’t any but much more rare in those days.
I have two square bodies, Blazer Silverado and GMC Sierra Jimmy, 4 wheel. Both Trucks have new 333/350 create engines, I turned down an offer for 40,000 on my black blazer truck.
In this case she was supportive he had spent more on building one then he paid and still was not done with it you can cut corners but you can’t cut what it cost to build one right and proper nor get it done any faster we have proved it time and time again.
M1008 heavier then a real K30? Bahaha. Are you referring to the braces behind the engine? Some had some didnt. Same frame other then that. Same suspension. Same axles.

@@DavisDrives see it so many many times in my life my man. The very reason I still have every single square body part and truck my pap ever owned. Don’t trust anyone to do the work and i simply don’t have time
Good job man l have a 1983 gmc sierra l buy the truck in 2019 for 1800 in Tucson AZ good chape
That’s great 😁
Thanks for the video I had no idea that the military trucks were worth that much now
That is in good shape, of course rustbucket ones are still only worth parts money
Im sure there are still some honey holes out there but most seam to be real expensive or really junk
@@TheOnlyBlackInMeWasWillieBrown
Damn that great truck is really growing on me 🧐🧐🧐🧐
87 is one year only tbi fuel injection plus there getting harder to find plus price keep going up. I had one 5 years ago body custom work upgrades ready for to be painted after I had cowl hood, role pan French in , fantom grill and shave drip rail and mirror , lock handle and side marker lights plus trim. wish I didn't let sell it.
Sounds like a great project
I'm curious if you've ever had one of the custom made extended cab squarebody's come through your shop.
We talk about it but we have not
Makes me glad to own one
For sure
I love the trucks do you ever do the obs Chevy’s… I have 4 of them they are cheap to buy here in Tennessee get them for 200-7500 .. I’m sending a 1995 off to get done and a 1990
Yes, getting ready to bring one of those to video very soon. Lots of really good upgrades for those trucks.
Did you guys sell Whistlin diesel the red one?
No but we would love to do some business with him. We did just sell one almost identical to that one a few weeks back when he acquired the one he got.
1:36 Link to the manufacturer of the bumper. Thanks
Great info
That grey truck behind you, the rear driver side tire is overinflated. Just a heads up lol.
Chevy K20 owner here with a Cummins swap (did myself) ... wondering about the bumper on that truck with the turn signals in it
1981, 1982
The 6.2 is what they used in the first H1
Possibly so all the ones we have had were 6.5, but that very well could have been an option
Thanks for sharing my man
I had a 1986 scottsdale 3/4 ton for 200$ two full tanks of fuel 1$ in the glove box no rear winder. Bed full of brush. 4x4 to.
Lol
I don’t care if I’m still paying for it when I’m dead as long as it’s what I want
Yesss
You guys need to buy my 79. Stepside black with black interior.
Send us info
I have a 82 c10 lwb paid $1100. A 79 c10 swb paid $1700. A 83 c20 lwb paid $700. And fixing to pick up a 84 k20 lwb. Square bodies are addictive.
At that price ur doing really well
If I am paying 15k for a paint job there is no way I am waiting a YEAR for it, I dont care how good your shop is.
We don’t paint this is industry standard stuff not our prices
@@DavisDrives Its not the price, its the combination of the price and wait time that is a no go. 15k and 1 year wait is a joke.
That’s just how it is in our area and most others unfortunately matter effect of $15,000 paint job just got picked up the other day. It was over five years in the shop.
@@DavisDrives Thats absurd.
Where do you get the groundhowgs tires?
I have a 2012 1500 4 door . SILVERADO LT .Ruffly how much does it cost to have new rocker panels installed ??
Unfortunately, we do not get involved in the body and paint work unless it’s a square body those are the only ones that we work with on that type Repair, etc.
Is the grey one behind you in your video for sale??
They all are davisautosales.com
Where can I find more information on the trac bar kit?
Just contact Davis off road to speak to Daniel he can get you set up

💯 facts my man
Are we ignoring the broken marker light on the bllue truck
That one has not finished going through the shop don’t worry won’t get missed
@@DavisDrives alrighty
Well hell I don't know where you're trying to find the trucks but they are way cheaper than you say. A local body shop does high quality color change for 6,000. 1300 for interior. I know I've gotten quotes for my square body. But if y'all wanna pay lots of money then I've got one or five for sale....
This is the exact comment that we knew would come. If you truly have some for sale we will back our statement up with cash for one or 5 and have your quality shop paint them and do the interior asap. If they can do it great we are 100% all in for that deal
Please let us know we will have our delivery guy there with cash in hand
I a 87 gmc short bed stepside no rust all original throttle body 350 automatic transmission new front drive shaft new drag link new throttle body , what's it worth?
You’re welcome to reach out to the office and send in some pictures. We can help you with the value.
I want my 1984 dodge ram prospector back. My first truck.
Those were sweet
Lol...I have s buddy who was whining about the price of squarebody chev's until I asked him how much a brand new pos costs because let's face it, new trucks are absolute junk.
Exactly 100%
I do most of the custom work on my trucks plus designing
Sweet
I'm building a pretty rare one it's an 87 v30 (k30) dually crew cab with the factory fuel injection 454 , sm465 an the 205
thats awesome hope it goes well if you need specific parts hit up davis off road
I had to buy a whole running driving k30 just to get a GOOD king pin 60 1 ton stuff is hard to get if you want good stuff
I bought one for $300, needed the kingpins redone though. Swiped calipers and other brake stuff from a r30 parts truck I had. It's a dually front axle though
@@Matt-re3or so is mine my man
I was roughly quoted 10/12 grand to paint my truck.
Pretty accurate price again some things could be done for less some things end up costing way more
Go get a job in a body shop, that's what I did
@@DavisDrives yes I agree.
There’s nothing like a square 💯
A factory worker with a family will take 20 yrs building one of these
It can still be done at home with sourcing used parts at a deal, but things are expensive these days
350 was always available in 3/4 and heavier.
My brothers 86 3/4 is a 350 and my 83 3/4 is 454 both are original
Correct the comment was based on half tons. Should’ve been more clear on that as they were very few three-quarter and one tons. Not that there weren’t any but much more rare in those days.
Ground Hawgs baby o yea
And he got a kool “new” truck for the same as the new truck cost
Exactly and it will last
I have two square bodies, Blazer Silverado and GMC Sierra Jimmy, 4 wheel. Both Trucks have new 333/350 create engines, I turned down an offer for 40,000 on my black blazer truck.
I bet they have a lot of value for sure

Yep I have 8k into my 83 6.2 K20 interior.
Doesn’t take long if you do it right
That's back when Chevrolet used to make good trucks I'm a Chevy guy I always have been still am but I'm disappointed in the newer stuff
Yes, nowhere near what it used to be
Square bodies are some of the easiest trucks to work on.
Yes they are that’s what makes them so universally popular and parts are readily available too
Cuanto cuesta una velleza de esas?
www.davis4x4.com/view-inventory?searchfor=YearMakeModel&searchtext=square&inventorysearch=1
You can not build trucks this nice for the price your letting them go for
Agreed
You actually can if you know what your doing
The man probly got a divorce when his wife saw the price.
In this case she was supportive he had spent more on building one then he paid and still was not done with it you can cut corners but you can’t cut what it cost to build one right and proper nor get it done any faster we have proved it time and time again.
I’m kicking myself in the nuts everyday for selling my square bodies, I’m retired now and saving up for one.
Yeah they have a great following now
Can you finance one of these trucks?
That’s having someone do all the work for you correct
Correct 👍
Why are you wearing sunglasses ? It doesn’t look too sunny .
He Just had eye doctor appointment and eyes dilated but he has eye sensitivity from lasik surgery as well
Them grounghawgs are sick
These are the replacements they came out with
M1008 heavier then a real K30? Bahaha. Are you referring to the braces behind the engine? Some had some didnt. Same frame other then that. Same suspension. Same axles.
We didn’t invent the Squarebody but the military / gm definitely considered it a ton and a quarter where as a k30 is a one ton
