- From the mouth of the actor itself, it seems Eddie Murphy has some animated movie news for us as Shrek 5 has begun production, and a Donkey Movie is also in existence. With DreamWorks going through some... interesting times right now, I am cautiously intrigued to see whether this is news we even WANT to hear. With a predicted release of 2025, Shrek 5 seems to be coming close! And with no plot details on the Donkey Movie I... have my reservations. And only a couple of ways I could see the show going well. So come join our discussions into the pitch for future Shrek Movies, hopefully being a revival era for DreamWorks. Or worst case scenario, it loops back to a Peacock Series like the bad ending Megamind seems to have faced...

How would YOU do the Donkey Movie justice?
Honestly, I wish they do not even touch the franchise because it had the great conclusion with Shrek 4
It sounds like an awful idea. Just like Puss in Boots 2 (a sequel to a forgotten mediocre movie from over a decade ago) sounded awful at first, and then became one of the best animated films of the 21st century.
Who knows? Dreamworks can make masterpieces and crap the same year. Maybe the Donkey movie can be a great film.

@@Cortezyy In Kung Fu Panda 4 the co-director and the team put a lot of passion into it but the director kept changing her script until it wasn't her's and just thought of it like a dumb kids movie and ruined the kung fu panda 2-esque movie the co-director had envisioned.

@@yannislaurin-kamouche they could explain why donkey talks and he could get abandoned by everyone he tries to talk to. Then he meets the old lady. She's lonely and just wants to talk to anyone. Then when she finds out Donkey talks back, she's delighted but, as he opens up to her, she realises she didn't want him to talk back. She becomes cranky and hates him until one day, she sees the poster telling her to sell him.

The only way I can see a donkey movie is if they do an origin story explaining how he got his positive attitude starting out darker slowly becoming brighter. But if it's just Donkey and nothing special than don't please

If Donkey says the jackass bit from Pinocchio, I'm all for it.
I know a lot of people will label this film as a cash grab similar to Toy Story 5, but honestly this franchise has huge potential for a continuation just from where the third and fourth films left off there’s so many story threads to explore, such as: How Far Far Away will change now that Arthur has become the king, How everyone is gonna react to how most of the villains decided to turn good at the end of the third movie, Puss, Kitty, and Perrito coming back to Far Far Away after the events of the last wish and perhaps Puss and Kitty will get married for real, plus the biggest potential the Triplets. The triplets never even spoke in the films they were in so they’re all clean slates that the writers (creative and competent) writers can turn into whatever they want, they can write three new characters as they explore this changed world post the previous four films, plus the relationship of the triplets with Donkey’s kids as we don’t know if the dronkeys will be nonverbal like their mom or will have talking voices like their dad. And I guess they could try and give Charming an ending, at the end of the third film we was just defeated so he could team up with a bigger villain or we can just see him get arrested like Rumpelstisken (I don’t know how to spell that) in the fourth film, but that’s probably the least exciting thing that they could do but we never know. After all Puss in Boots 2 was great. So they’re a lot of directions they could go if they get a good and creative team of writers and directors together
Donkey isn’t from a fairytale. He’s actually from the original Shrek book. He helps Shrek on his quest to meet Fiona.

What about Puss in boots? He was the comic relief character besides donkey and got 2 spin offs with one of them making him the deepest character in the Shrek series
@@silashurd3597Puss was often a comic relief character, but you could still definitely take him seriously within the shrek films. Donkey on the other hand? Ehhh he’s only ever really been a comic relief character. Maybe his own movie could add some greater depth to him tho
Stop assuming until it comes out, jeez. People are so hurt over the past few years that they already think a movie is going to be terrible. If you go in thinking it will be terrible there is no way you're not gonna see it as terrible. You won't even have an open enough mind to enjoy it because "cars 2" 😂 Let the movie come out and watch it without expectations of it being terrible and you might enjoy it more.

A. Donkey’s origin where he and Pinocchio are the lucky 2 who escape pleasure island before being sold at the fairy tail market.
B. Donkey and his family going on an adventure together.
Another idea that could work is bringing in "The Muscians of Breman" as one of the animals was a donkey.

A donkey movie should probably explore his and dragons human origins.. Donkey was the boy from Pinocchio, dragon was maleficent and they give a human spell a chance.. Then by the end they decide to remain in their animal forms and put their origins behind them

They could justify that as just being part of the Rumpelstiltskin version of the world. So many characters are quite different from their normal selves, why can't their origins also be different?

Okay legit the idea of a Donkey movie being him and Pinocchio discovering he was a boy from Pleasure Island who was turned into a Donkey is actually amazing.
It's dark, it's clever world and character building and best of all it's yet another perfect opportunity to take pot shots at Disney and their version of Pinocchio.
It's even got the line-up of three separate antagonists like The Last Wish, the fox guy whose named escapes me right now, the big greedy showman guy whose name also escapes me right now and Monstro (can't forget that whale!).
Unrelated, but I heard Inside Out will have a spinoff called Dream Productions in 2025. I cannot wait to watch it next year on Disney+ because it has so much potential.
Do you think they called it that because it sounds similar to DreamWorks?

I did not know how much I want the donkey movie to be about pleasure island until you laid it out there. That is a fantastic concept. I love that.
Donkey being Candlewick could be a good premise. Not sure where you would go with it though.
I think that a Donkey movie sounds like a horrible idea, but who knows, maybe they could make something amazing. Puss in Boots, and it's sequel also sounded like a bad idea, but Puss in Boots 2 proved that as long as they have ambitious and talented people working on this film that you can make a good film about any character.
The first Puss in Boots was also still really good and underrated.

With How The Last Wish played out it's really did push Shrek Franchise forward with its visual it's storyline now hearing Shrek 5 is on the move I am like how awesome that Donkey Movie well that's something it could go some interesting directions depending on its story and what does for the character if Shrek 5 sets it up

Dragon and donkey movie could be done so well, and I don't necessarily mean their family matters. I feel like they've been building up to something bigger since Shrek 2 or possibly even Shrek 1, there's so many little things (I'm sorry I can't remember any in particularly but I went DEEP down that rabbit hole 3 years ago), however from very small details I've noticed especially in their first appearance, I've realised recently donkey and dragon could make a very suprisingly respectful, mature and just good Trans subplot (I am COMPLETELY serious)

I watched Puss in Boots 1, and it was decent movie, i dont even like cats, or that specific cat, but was pretty worried about quality of second movie.. .But heck man, they even made it as a proper sequal! Its SOOOO good.

I could see Donkey be a supporting character to a new story. That's where he shines. So, him meeting a new character like Shrek, but not be Shrek could be fun.
I hope any of the new Shrek content doesn’t end up being like Megamind: The Doom Syndicate.
And I love Donkey as a character, so I think having him get his own solo/spinoff movie would be a treat.
The reason why standalone movies with a side character doesn’t work is because they’re not around with the main characters that makes the comedy gold. Donkey will probably be with characters that nobody will care about. Chemistry will be off.

I have mixed feelings for Shrek 5. While sure, It will be interesting to see, what will Dreamworks do with the franchise next, but on the other hand, Shrek's VA for my language died four years ago, so even if it will be good, it won't be the "same"...
My head cannon for Shrek is that 4 is 2 and a half and that if u look at the 4th movie as a part 2 of the second movie it looks a lot better. 3 would be ur conclusion setting up an actual 4th movie with the kids as teenagers and Shrek finally realizing he Dosent need anything else after a road trip to find donkey.
When u put the rubber goggles and look at the franchise this way a donkey movie with a different animation style is promising.

I don't think Donkey movie will feature pleasure island. Shrek movies putting all fairy tale characters in same universe and Disney making movies based on fairy tales are 2 totally different things. Disney doesn't own all the fairy tales and therefore not a single fairy tale character in Shrek-franchise is a disney reference

my biggest concern with a donkey movie is that the track record for comic relief characters getting their own spin-offs has never been the greatest, at least with puss he was still treated as a character but past the first shrek movie donkey was purely comic relief with occasional moments in shrek forever after, let's not forget how often comic reliefs have been used as main characters and those things ended up completely falling on their faces

That being said though, box office success doesn’t necessarily make it a good movie, and I don’t see Shrek 5 being a good movie. It’s already an unnecessary addition for a start, because Shrek Forever After wrapped the series up really well. Where could they possibly go from there?

Don't really care rn since Shrek 5 is confirmed to be a reboot so the donkey movie will likely take place in the rebooted universe. The whole thing that made shrek special was that it was a subversion of typical fairy tale tropes, but nowadays you have tons and tons of stories that do the same thing, either following or subverting tropes, or subverting the subversions. Shrek is very much so a product of its time, I don't think it really has a place in modern cinema outside of the memes.
