Did a duplex for a couple with 5 indoor cats and zero litter boxes 🤢 Yesterday was a leaky bathroom sink. I’m thinking it’ll be a 15-minute job. Tiny bathroom in a unit with no AC, and it’s hot as hell in there. The “leak” was really an old faucet that wouldn’t turn off. Go to replace the faucet and it’s just welded in place with corrosion. Cut it out, and the rusty sink just falls apart when I remove the old flange…two hours later I’m still not done and I’m reconsidering my life choices that led me here. Took just over three hours, with a trip to HD.
Ugh, what a nightmare...
“This was somebody’s little boy at some point…” ooof… the truth and pain behind that statement that those who are not parents won’t understand.
That's the only thing I can think of every time I see someone who made all the wrong choices in life and ended up in a bad place. I just see my kids and what their future might be if I don't do my job right. Whoever that guy was, whatever bad stuff he did in life, there was a time when he was just a little 5-year-old boy whose life could have taken a very different direction. We're all just people in the end.
Dude I love your stories, you need to right a book, or script for a show.
Ahh that would be cool 😎
Can’t wait to have some nightmare stories.
Lol yep! Let me know when you get them!
Ive had to make-ready a couple rentals whose previous tenants experienced “Unattended Deaths”
Let me tell you about getting coffin wax out of hardwood flooring.😑
I had to do an estimate on one of those once. I didn't end up getting the job because I purposefully priced it high enough to get them to say no. The entire bottom 3 ft of every wall was covered in mold due to 4 ft of trash that had been in the house forever. The person who had lived there died and nobody even realized it until they were removing all of the trash and found him In it.
I had a client who was both heavy ocd with cleaning and also a compulsive hoarder. She had piles of trash everywhere but the thin line of floor to walk from her front door to kitchen and bed was perfectly cleaned and maintained.
I also had a lady demand that I apologize for my pricing (less than 100 per billable hour at the time) and threatened me with a knife. She even printed off my detailed quote, signed, and paid the deposit and invoice before demanding an apology.
That's crazy man!
I got a job to disassemble an old bed frame and assemble a new one in a severely bedbug infested house that had not been treated- blood stains and shedding covering every surface around the bed. I really felt bad for the old woman who probably had no one to check on her. Also did a faucet replacement last week in a small bathroom that required laying down on the floor where an elderly guy had probably not been able to control himself for months/years. No amount of cleaning could remove the sticky stench. I ended up layering the floor with paper towel but it just stuck to my knees and elbows
Ugh, that sounds horrible. Gotta do what we gotta do though
Man I’ve had a similar experience. I worked on a bathroom that had thick Berber carpet throughout. It was so gross and pissy. I ripped the whole vanity, toilet and everything out and bleached the whole area. If I think of it which your story did… my nostrils just remember that smell. Nasty. I kept thinking who thought this was a good idea?
Yeah, that smell is the smell of sewage. Not the same thing as the smell of poop or the smell of pee, but when they're combined and they're old, it becomes the smell of sewage... It's a hard smell to forget
Wall-hung on Cast Iron Pipe Toilets conversion to standard in a High-rise with limited control over water shut-off (Keeping it shut off fresh, and keeping other units from shitting on you while working the stack). Toilets on carpet, with Particle Board sub-floor, after a Sewer Flood with a cheap owner that does not want to follow IIRC guidelines or even common sense. Flat Roofs for any reason. Any job at the beach on the boardwalk with deadlines and no way to keep the technicians inside instead of out. Any job for an average General Contractor you don't personally know and trust.
keep knocking it out of the park brother - Love your content.
That one with a toilet on the carpet you mentioned sounds like a nightmare!
Thanks, John!

🤣🤣🤣 As Long As The Conversation Is Good!
My worst job (so far), was pulling a dead, hairless, disintegrating possum out from under a cat lady's trailer. There was a leak in the under pinning, so it was floating in a lake of cat droppings.
OMG that sounds horrible!!!
Doing work in gross houses with kids break my heart I just can’t imagine how people live like that and unfortunately I have to do it a lot
It is really hard
@@bulletproofhandyman yea my daughter is turning 2 tomorrow and I just couldn’t imagine her living in such poor conditions
That's no good
Attic or crawl space work yikes
Honestly that was close to being on the list. I'm never in a crawlspace here, they just don't build that way here. Attics are somewhat common here but they've usually not too bad. However the few times I've been in a crawlspace it has sucked...
Holy frick
Yep!
Not that it matters now..but I think at that point..about the bleeding man..is to forget the small talk and just bring up Christ asap..forever in hell is a long time..regardless of who it is..its just so long to be in hell
Although I respect people who are religious, I don't hold any particular beliefs about it myself.
@@bulletproofhandyman ah i see..i just assumed
