This film is seriously underrated, it's amazing. Whenever someone asks me why I like reading so much I reply by telling them to read/watch the book thief.
You knew that Sophie Nélisse is a French Canadian having to speak in English with a German accent right? And of course she did her own voice in the French version.
Death narrates the beginning and the near end and the end of the movie very well. I saw the movie in a preview tonight. It will win some oscars. The girl in the film has great emotional talent for age 13, She carries the whole movie with very talented help.
I'm nervous but also SO HAPPY with the trailer. I wrote my dissertation on this book and I just love it. I'm so glad that you mentioned the scenery, it looks like they've got the colours and everything down. I'm trying not to think about the end shot. I will literally be in a horrendous state.
I just finished the book a couple of minutes ago, and watched this trailer. I'm sooo excited for the film, it looks like they did a really good job making the book into a film. I feel like I need a lie-down. Too many feels
I just recently read the Book Thief a few weeks ago...perfect timing! I LOVED this book, I think its my favorite book of the year so far. It made me cry so hard at the end! This trailer made me cry, too!
I loterally went to see a movie and it was right after i finished the book thief and i said "i wish theyd turn the book thief into a movie"and then the trailer came on and i was like OOOOOO SHIT! im so happy im not the only one who cried while watching the trailer i LOVED the book and movie.
I still have to read the book, it came in the mail yesterday, and I found out about the new trailer and it just looks so beautiful! Now I'm really excited for the book. Can't wait to read it!
The fact that they moved the release date so it can compete for the Oscars gives me hope. Also that they are treating it as a serious movie, not just a "YA adaptation" This is my favorite book of all time as well and I hope they do it justice. I loved that last dialoge about Liesel's book. This is a story about the power of words, I'm a firm believer in that and I love when they emphasize it.
I am excited for the movie. It looks like they did a really good job handling the story and I'm really impressed that someone would be interested in making it into a film; it is such a beautiful, sad and heart wrenching book.
"Horns" by Joe Hill is first on my reading list for September (because the film comes out in October) but then I'm reading "The Book Thief." I've had it a few months so now is as good as a time as any to read it, I guess. I hope you enjoy the film.
Caz, your face. So many different emotions in under 2 1/2 minutes. Thanks for letting me know it was being made into a film. I had no idea. With a film like this I'm not too concerned how faithful they are to the plot. As long as they get the spirit of the book right. And with how the relationships are shown in the trailer I think they've got it right.
I saw the trailer before the City of Bones movie, and freaked out because I didn't know the trailer had been released! I think it looks absolutely fantastic, SO EXCITED to watch the movie!
I reacted so similar to you! When she slapped him I was like "Ohhh, bitchslap. Go, Liesel!", I also smiled with Hans "majesty" and Max saying "It wasn't always mine" to Liesel like she had said to her father before and I also started getting emotional and thinking "Oh.My.God. I'm already crying just from the trailer!" And that last shot! Ohhh, that last shot! Did you friend read the book after all? "Cause he so should! Don't let forget about it! Also, on a random note: I love the wardrobe behind you guys... I saw it and thought "Yep, I guess I know where the entrace to Narnia is." lol
Thank you for posting this video! I went and saw the trailer and now I'm trying not to cry!:/ I will be picking up this book before the movie comes out!
Loved seeing your reactions. I got ridiculously emotional while watching this trailer. It looks like it has the spirit of the book---it may not be exact, but I can tell it has the spirit. And Max! He's my literary crush, haha! I think Max is one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to.
I know its completely different but once I was in the laundry room of my dorms/accomidation at uni. I saw a coppy of One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest and over time everyone left so I realised someone had left it there, was so tempted to take it but i couldnt bring myself to lol.
My favourite book of all time also... i cried when i finished it, not just because it was sad but because i didnt want it to end... I am really hopefully the movie wont disapoint me, as soooo many book to movie adaptations do x
Loved this book so much and the trailer too. Only one thing I wasn't so sure about in the trailer is that everyone looks so clean and well fed etc. In the book I imagined a much more depressing scene and doesn't seem to capture that. But it was just the trailer so who knows! can't wait to see it when it comes out.
OH GAWD I DIDN'T KNOW THE TRAILER WAS OUT. I'm going to watch it and make a reaction video now too, so I'll come back and watch yours in a few hours when I get to do that! OH GAWD.
I knew they were making a movie for this, but I didn't know it was coming out so soon. I read the book like three years ago, and I need to reread it, but this trailer was AMAZING. :)
OH MY GOD, I saw the title of this video and I was like: NO WAY! so I ran to see the trailer... and I literally cried. The book thief is my favorite book EVER.
we have the same "last scene reaction"! love the book, love the trailer! (i actually read the book because i heard sophie will be playing the lead. i adored her in monsieur lahzar. ended up LOVING the book)
I cried watching this trailer. All the emotions i had reading the book came back and hit me like a freaking brick wall! It looks so good!!! I can tell i will be a mess watching the movie
It's so weird because this little girl is a french-canadian actress so the see her perform in english is pretty impressive considering how old she is, and we can hear her accent but it does sound as if it is a german accent.
i love the trailer...it´s gonna be an amazing movie and i´m gonna cry... i know that by now... not that i haven´t cry as i read the book... thank you so much for sharing this!!!
The trailer indeed looks like one of the best trailers in a long time! I need to read the book but hey! There is some time left, but I'm excited to read it! And I cried okay!
I saw this book on the ABC's Book Club ranked 2nd on the Top Ten must read Aussie Authored books. I then found it in a $2 shop, best money I spent. Can't wait for the movie. Really good story. Nice review!
This film is seriously underrated, it's amazing. Whenever someone asks me why I like reading so much I reply by telling them to read/watch the book thief.

the book is beautiful and the movie is beautiful.
I can't wait for this movie! I really love your reactions, I could feel and see the exact same emotions from looking at this beautiful trailer!!!
Death narrates the beginning and the near end and the end of the movie very well. I saw the movie in a preview tonight. It will win some oscars. The girl in the film has great emotional talent for age 13, She carries the whole movie with very talented help.

The little blonde girl is actually an actress from quebec ( canada) and she is in lots of tv shows ( in french) :)

I cry every time I see the trailer. I am so excited because I adore the book and it seems to stay true to the book so far.
Just came back from the movie, little sis cried through the end. Rudy!!! ;_;
Just watching the trailer nearly made me cry. I can imagine the impact the movie will have on me, fellow Book Thief lovers and everyone.
I haven't read it yet, but I agree, it looks extremely beautiful. It has that warm feel to it that lets you know you are going to cry at one point...
I started crying during the trailer. It looks amazing! I definitely need to read the book ASAP
I still have to read the book, it came in the mail yesterday, and I found out about the new trailer and it just looks so beautiful! Now I'm really excited for the book. Can't wait to read it!
@Mikereynokdsfamily the fact that Death appears makes me happy. I feel he is a major part of the story, though he is only the narrator.
The fact that they moved the release date so it can compete for the Oscars gives me hope. Also that they are treating it as a serious movie, not just a "YA adaptation"
This is my favorite book of all time as well and I hope they do it justice.

I started reading this book yesterday and today the trailer came out. I'm loving the book and I can't wait to see the movie.
I almost cried during the trailer too! Looks absolutely wonderful. The book is AMAZING, cried reading it. Can't wait!

The trailer makes me cry every time. I am so excited for this.
I saw the trailer before the City of Bones movie, and freaked out because I didn't know the trailer had been released! I think it looks absolutely fantastic, SO EXCITED to watch the movie!
For some reason, I always imagined Hans as looking like a normal sized version of the BFG, but this actor seems like a pretty good fit aswell:)
I reacted so similar to you! When she slapped him I was like "Ohhh, bitchslap. Go, Liesel!", I also smiled with Hans "majesty" and Max saying "It wasn't always mine" to Liesel like she had said to her father before and I also started getting emotional and thinking "Oh.My.God. i was sitting in a quiet study area at my university and literally screamed when rudy came on

when he reacted to her slapping the other kid XD
I almost cried. I can't wait to see this. The Book Thief is one of my favorite books ever.
I agree with all you said. It has been a few years since I have read the book, so I really want to reread it soon! It looks like a fantastic movie.
Thank you for posting this video! I went and saw the trailer and now I'm trying not to cry!:/ I will be picking up this book before the movie comes out!

My favourite book of all time also... i cried when i finished it, not just because it was sad but because i didnt want it to end... I am really hopefully the movie wont disapoint me, as soooo many book to movie adaptations do x
I just put the book on hold at the library because it looks AWESOME!
I welled up, and I haven't even read the book yet! I have it on my bookshelf, NEED TO GET ON THAT.
Loved this book so much and the trailer too. Only one thing I wasn't so sure about in the trailer is that everyone looks so clean and well fed etc. In the book I imagined a much more depressing scene and doesn't seem to capture that. THE TRAILER MADE ME SOB. IT JUST LOOKS SO AMAZING.
I knew they were making a movie for this, but I didn't know it was coming out so soon. I read the book like three years ago, and I need to reread it, but this trailer was AMAZING. :)

The actor playing Max is going to be great in this movie, I can feel it. :) So excited!!
The trailer looks great! But do you feel like in the book, the tone was a bit more serious than what the trailer portrayed?
