    This is one of the many reasons I love the MLB. Every player and coach on both sides showed compassion and that they truly cared. The batter certainly showed hurt and sorrow for the pitcher. Everyone showed respect. The fans waited patiently and then clapped as he left the field. That's true sportsmanship and how you play the game like men.

    I researched it and Jay Happ received a fractured skull behind his ear, cut on his ear, and a sprained knee that happened when he fell to the ground. After rehab he returned to pitch in August of that year.

  • @BlackCrossLgn

    This is why I think pitching is the riskiest position in baseball.

    • @BlackCrossLgn
      @BlackCrossLgn 9 років тому +53

      ***** Almost, but not the riskiest. Because yes he can get hit by a pitch, but the batter is wearing a helmet so if it hit his head, it wouldnt hurt very bad. But for the pitcher, the batter can hit the ball hard and it probably travels much harder and faster than a pitch when it's a line drive. And the pitcher's head is not protected. The head is the one place you dont want to get hit. Hard enough of a hit, it can lead to a serious concussion or worse.

    • @SadMarinersFan

    • @stro625

      It is the riskiest position in baseball. There is so many injuries that can happen to a pitcher, a wide range of the common UCL snapping, requiring Tommy John surgery, or getting hit in the head with a baseball.

    • @fussiestelk2002

    The defining silence and reverence out of respect and class, empathy and caring understanding for Happ was one of the most surreal things I've ever seen in sport. Yes it's MLB and they are professional players competing for a common goal; at the same time, they are human where injuries can happen at any given and unexpected time...no matter what. Period. They acted like men in the face of something as frightening as this injury was to watch happen.

    I hate the fact that he got hurt but I love how everyone was so worried for him and at the end everyone claps even the people on the opposite team and that right there is humanity and a good team player when the other team feels sorry for the other player. one of the reasons professional baseball is the most beautiful sport to observe, is because it sits right on top of pure ecstasy and humbling tragedy. It can go from being a breathtaking sport to watch, to being a sport where a players life can be on the line in the blink of an eye. Baseball players are always on the edge of peril, because that baseball can and will, go anywhere and do whatever it wants.

    Reminds me of the game on the same day (5-7) in 1957 where Gil McDougald of the Yankees hit the line drive that hit Herb Score in the face, breaking bones in his face, leaving him bloodied, and ending his season. Score was never the same again.

    It’s not fair that baseball can be such a dangerous sport. The videos of pitches thrown that hurt players, batted balls that drop players, men running into the out field walls trying to stop a ball. It’s painful to see the injuries. It doesn’t matter how old the videos are, the pain, suffering and worries come shinning through.

      Anyone can be an emt or save someone's life with training. Being an pro athlete takes talent. Not everyone can throw 100 fast balls or run the 1000 dash in a record time. Not everyone can dunk a 10ft High net or kick a 60 yard field goal. Etc. Be the best you can be and respect others for what you can't do.

      In this video, we can see his legs moving. He's in excruciating pain, but he's moving. From the third tier of the stadium, many folks including myself were worried he might have been killed. Many prayers were being spoken in that stadium that night!
