well, it' acually "medly" I think but in any case it was listed as 1968 at winterland as I recall. Funny thing is that the medly blues power/shootout on the plantation he's playe deven as recently as last year! This show starts with 4 songs just Leon and a slide and then 12 after he brings out "the rest of the cronies". More to come, glad u enjoyed it!
slik willy You may know by now but Leon wasn't doing these in 1968. He did the 2 Asylum Choir albums but he didn't get linked up with Claudia until the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, 1970. I think this was late 70 but most likely 71. His first solo concert was at Anaheim opening for The Who, along with John Sebastian and another mind, which I don't remember.
"hope you will share the whole thing. :-)"?? Maybe a song or two at a me...sees to take forever to put these together. Your insight to the music is much appriciated but the "medly" I refer to is claudia and then don preston, those two songs. The show starts off as stated above. After "come in to my kitchen " he thanks the crowd and states " I'll bring out the rest of the cronies" and plays "pices apple lady" and the rest. alcatraz, sweet emily, etc...sounds like Leon Live to me,so maybe '71?
The first song in this 'medley' is what I write up as "I Got The Blues," or "I Got Da Blues" but as far as I know, Leon hasn't done it since about 1971, at least that I know of. The next one is Sweet Little Angel, which was something Don Preston sang a lot back then. The last song, "Come On In My Kitchen" sounds like it could be from another source. What else is on with this? I think it's possibly from 1971 so far, but I am highly intrigued and hope you will share the whole thing. :-)
sure, wformic@yahoo.com u being a "Leon aficianado", did ya get ahold of the "deep freeze" cd? this line up is clearly the same as Leon Live, Don P and claudia play different songs (been a long time is a classic even on that disc!)
Leon asked the boys how to say "lost in the woods" in their language. They said we don't have that phrase, sinc we don't get lost. :) He went with "out"
This never gets old.
He was so great! Such high energy shows.
I love this & appreciate it greatly.
God, what a gem!! Thanks!!

Leon! Claudia! WOW!
I love how it gets rediscovered over the years.........RIP-Master of Space and Time.........
"Aint that pretty", Quoting of course the master himself after explaining the african refrain on "out in the woods" from Leon Live...gotta love it!

Nice! Thanks slik willy
I'm curious what this came from, most of my live recordings of the song "I've Got Da Blues" are from late 1971. Thanks for sharing! :-)

slik willy, may we talk about this privately? :-)
What does “out in the woods” mean to African People? Thanks to someone to answer my question!❤️
