  • This video shows replacement of the carbon brush module/piece/unit and what I had to remove to gain access to the rear of generator motor.
My generator would start without issue, but immediately shut down and display blink status code for no voltage output, sometimes over crank. It eventually resolved on its own, I think moisture had collected and was causing an issue. However, knowing I had sub-par voltage inside my home when the Generator was active, I wanted to perform this task anyhow. It resolved any voltage issues, as I now get consistent 120v+ output whereas before it was inconsistent and barely peaked above 110v; NOT good for electronics.
Be sure to disconnect battery first! You DO NOT want this to fire/attempt to start for any reason while you're working closely. Be sure it's cooled to touch if it was running prior. Be CAREFUL, Be SAFE, Use COMMON SENSE with some SELF PRESERVATION!

Can you tell me where to find brushes? I have a Centurion, also well aged and not sure I can depend on local maintenance guys to know (Puerto Rico). So much thanks for this vid!

Check your engine speed and make sure it is correct. That is a major cause of low voltage. Also if it has an AVR you can adjust additionally if needed.

Thanks, but no AVR on this oldie, and the brush module was the issue for mine at least. For its age it seems to be working really well now, definitely happy with voltage output. Now to get an IntelliStart unit for my WaterFurnace Geo to allow that to run with this smaller genny :-).

Hi Justin. I just seen an exact generator in this video. Customer states the battery is always dead. Does yours charge your battery while the generator is off? Do you have a transfer switch installed or a interlock kit?

@Ethansmithem1817 Mine does not charge battery that I am aware of. I know the modern systems have the tender built-in, but not aware this model does. It'd be a good little upgrade though.
I have an auto transfer switch installed, also generac brand.
