- Masters and PhD programs in Japan are research oriented which means they are done under the supervision of a professor.
For any kind of scholarship in Japan, contacting the professors is important.
For MEXT Embassy Track you should reach the professors after embassy shortlisting.
For the MEXT university recommendation track, you can contact professors any time and tell them about your interest to work with them and to take admission in Masters or PhD Degree.
Even if you're applying for ADB Scholarship for Japan or JICA Scholarship for Japan, this step is important to take admission of your choice.

I’m Raihan Shahidi from Afghanistan. The Japanese government this year has allocated some MEXT scholarship seats for Afghan students too. The embassy announced it on 1st July and the 15th of July is considered to be the last deadline. I’ve made a lot of progress since then however I’ve got some questions in the critical stages of application form and Research plan, among other things, that still remain unanswered. Yes, research proposal is required anyway. Because that is something you have to do for the future. (The actual research can be a little different though).
You don't have to convert CGPA. It's okay to write as it is.

Yeah, you can send introductory email with CV and based on professor's reply you can make proposal if they ask for it.

Congratulations, you're at the final step which is mainly administrative. Just make a preference order according to the professors or labs where you want to work at.
The same research theme is okay but you're free to make adjustments if there is any major difference.

Embassy intake starts from the April of next year after application year. And university recommendation intake starts from September of next year after the application year.

It depends upon each university. For example Tokyo Tech asks to get an acceptance letter from the professor before applying at the university portal.

Yes sure, feel free to send email to as many professors as you want but only take acceptance letters from two, as the embassy instructed.
But if we contacted as much as possible, will not it be unethical. Becausr embassy generally suggest to two professor, can i contact more than two professors?

MEXT Scholarship should be applied for home country. But you can still apply for admission in university and if you get admission you can apply for other university funded scholarships.
Can i please have an answer to my question. So i applied for MEXT through my country's Embassy and got shortlisted but after the interview i didn't make it to second screening because of many reasons which I can't get into. We know a professor or two in japan so can we ask them to apply for us through Mext IN japan? Cant that get us the scholarship as well? And yes they're willing to take us. I wonder if you can apply to MEXT from Japan directly instead of applying from your country?
Hi there,
As you may know, MEXT also has a university track. You can apply for it at the same time when you apply for admission from your home country. (As far as I know you have to apply from your home county for MEXT university track).
Professors you are willing to accept you in their labs can support you to apply for MEXT university track. Even in some universities, recommendation letter from a professor is required in order to apply for admission (with or without MEXT scholarship).
Lastly, university has some private scholarships which you can only apply after starting your studies.

It's okay to mention the name of professor, if you got the acceptance. You can also mention just department and university name.

Yes that's possible. And language proficiency certificate works in most universities. Actually when professor takes interview, he/she can also decide to give you expemtioon from IELTS if they are satisfied with your English ability.

I got two acceptance from two universities for university track
One is an Associate professor and other is Professor.
Should i try to get acceptance from other universities too or just try to focus on these two universities.
And my 2nd question is my CGPA is 3.53 and its approx 87% because our university follwed relative grading system.
Are universities evaluate the applicants on their CGPA or percentage.
Cuz many universities follows absolute grading system in pakistan.
Although they got more then 3.9 CGPA but they have lesser percentage as compare to us...

It's better than you choose the best options out of the two you have got.
Technically you can apply for one university at a time for MEXT University Recommendation Track.
GPA should be above the minimum requirements then content of the application form and research proposal and recommendation letters increase your chance of acceptance.

Unfortunately Japanese scholarships have criteria of 80% marks in the last degree.
You can still look into taking admissions privately and then by applying for fee exemption. And cover the remaining cost by part time jobs.

Hi, the reason is that there are many engineering universities in Japan which offer programs in English. If you can find any program in archeology offered in your preferred language then there is no reason not to apply for it.

Bro for bachelor study in business studies what is student visa ratio in Pakistan. Basically i'm from Acca(Association of certified charted Accountant) and passed some exam of it.and my privious study is intermediate and have 60% score in it(I.com)

I've been interviewed by a Japanese Professor for Master's via University Track. After they said that you have to first clear Entry Test and they also said you have to come Japan for the test. I see, I didn't know that such requirements exist.
The travel will most probably not be sponsored by the MEXT.
You can tell the professor that it's not easy for you to Visit Japan for test and especially the visa process can be tricky and request them to arrange some online test.

You need to follow the official admission procedure of the university. And if that process requires a signed letter from the professor, you can request the professor to give you the letter.

Hi, no the process for Undergraduate is different. You can directly apply for admission or for scholarship in the embassy.

I contacted a professor for PhD and he told me to crack an entrance exam for it offered by University. Do you have any idea about that entrance test?
The type of entrance exam depends upon each university. Some universities have written exam and some have interview based.
You can ask that professor to provide you some samples of the exams and also targeted domain/topics of the exam. Usually they provide such information for preparation.
Do we need to study Japanese language after been selected?
No. Japanese is not mandatory to learn, you just need to make sure that you choose the course which offers classes in English or at least most classes if not all.
