Absolutely. And if a cat is looking at you and squinting, or looking away, that is a good sign. If it's a cat you just met, it may be interested in you, but it likely doesn't trust you very much so it's literally keeping its eyes on you. You can also look at it for a second and slowly blink, then look away. I think this shows it that you trust it. Respecting a cat's boundaries and the fact that it may be afraid of you at first can improve your chances of petting one, but ultimately it's up to the cat if it wants to interact with you or not. Please respect their boundaries. Unless you need to get them in the carrier to take them to the vet. Then you may need to wrangle them =/
I have also found that it helps not to look directly into their eyes. I'll glance in their direction to guage their reaction, but looking or staring is definitely perceived as threatening.
You can also meow back at then to make them more comfortable with you. I had to do this recently when a neighbor's cat got out and wouldn't go back inside. She was a sweetheart, very soft and snuggly!

Now, obviously me.. since i like cats i take care of her during the ride home and she starts panicking in the carrier. I grab Ruby then i pick up also a blanket that we brought for her and i wrapped her like a smol burrito and proceeded to talk to ber gently and petting her only if she wants me to but obviously she tries to escape a bit but she seems more calmed down out the carrier. I continue this for the rest of the ride and i see that she looks tired and kinda falling asleep but staying awake because she is not sure, we arrive home i put her in the carrier and we go to the apartment door. Once we arrived i let her explore a bit. NOW: She loves me a lot and yesterday she was at the vet and immediately after my mon brought her back home when she got out the carrier i was the first person Ruby gone to see she was very very happy and the cat was just rubbing her head against my hand, she sleeps with me, (i always let my door open for “my” cats to make them feel welcomed they dont bother me at all) she goes in the bathroom when im there, when i watch youtube or tiktok on my phone on my bed in my room she just goes randomly purr on me very happily and she follows me everywhere ! She even welcomes me back home after school and when im sad she licks my hand or face to let me know that she is here and that im okay ! She is the best cat i can even ask for and im grateful (im only 13 but i know A LOT about cats i love cats so much djdndhdjbdshdjjdhdjdbdj) Storytime of my other cat at 1k likes (Why 1k likes ? When we picked her up and put her in the carrier she seemed cold and stressed obviously because 1) it was Fall season and 2) because she didn’t know us.
NOW:
She loves me a lot and yesterday she was at the vet and immediately after my mon brought her back home when she got out the carrier i was the first person Ruby gone to see she was very very happy and the cat was just rubbing her head against my hand, she sleeps with me, (i always let my door open for “my” cats to make them feel welcomed they dont bother me at all) she goes in the bathroom when im there, when i watch youtube or tiktok on my phone on my bed in my room she just goes randomly purr on me very happily and she follows me everywhere ! She even welcomes me back home after school and when im sad she licks my hand or face to let me know that she is here and that im okay ! She is the best cat i can even ask for and im grateful (im only 13 but i know A LOT about cats i love cats so much djdndhdjbdshdjjdhdjdbdj)

Learn from the kiddos. So cute
No wonder cats love me. And here I was just giggling and saying to every cat... "Hey, smell my finger" hehehehe
lol i didnt even knew this but i still used to always boop my kitten gently.😂❤
This is what Jackson Galaxy calls "the finger nose."
I don’t have cat 🐱 but i learn many things about cat 😂😂😂😂
My aunt's orange cat is so chill he lets me pet him when he doesn't even know me💀
Thats how my parents thought me how to greet most animals, while dogs useally are alot more excited when they meet people. I still do it.
This is how I get my cat to come to me lmao
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Instead of one finger, I usually give them my whole hand, palm down, for them to sniff. Then slowly use the back of hand to pat them. Or do the slow blink.
instruction unclear: now I'm in a hostage situation, need a negotiator ASAP!
3rd cat was looking beautiful when she was touched...❤
honestly this is a big indicator if someones a cat person...understanding mannerisms of the cat gets you respect asap
We not in mood ignore each other. We both in mood play or cuddle. I boop the nose and it lick my finger.
I scream at my cat, when I see her out of happiness, and she really chill
My cat will always come when I stick out my finger but then he’ll aggressively give himself a boop and pet himself
Jamani kachunu sana huyo Paka😊
Im sorry but that 3rd clip was priceless
It’s like back in the day when you paired two technical devices with each other by gently bumping them together.
The instructions were unclear; now, the cat has become my master
Th music / noise in this video is both amusing and weird at the same time. It is both compelling yet somewhat repulsive at the same time. But these sounds will stick in my mind forever. LOL !!!!!
my cat walks up to me and boops my nose all the time
it is SO CUTE
oooowww your cat is so cute 😊
This is SO CUTE❤
Baby and Cat😍🥰🥰😍🥰

Pro tip, hold your finger LOWER than their head.
