I completely agree with you. If anything it might even help 'break in' the engine, not that it's needed with today's manufacturing standards. I think the XV sounds amazing when revving.
Jeremy Cook I know it's 3 years late, but I'd like to thank you for your service my friend! I hope you got the car and are enjoying every second of owning it.
Well done! an excellent review. I've watched many of your reviews and would have to say that you are one of the very best car reviewers on the internet. Thank you.
Constantly adjusting for the optimal ratio is exactly what the CVT is designed for, so it's not doing anymore work in a manual mode than what it normally does. If anything, it's doing less work as it is using a fixed position to simulate a gear. Don't forget, CVT's may be new to us in the states, but other parts of the world have had them a lot longer.
I did quite a bit of research on the oil issue before placing an order for an XV. Based on what I read on the NASIOC forums, the oil issue was corrected on models builder after March of this year. And even before then it was only affecting a very small percentage of vehicles.
I was seriously considering getting this vehicle until I did a little research.I read what owners had to say on a Subaru XV forum and apparently some owners are experiencing high oil consumption on the 2013's.Heck I have a 2003 Honda Element (which I was going to trade) that has over 200,000 miles and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. I hope Subaru resolves this issue with the 2014 and beyond. As they say the first rule of thumb don't buy the first year of a new model vehicle
I can tell you from my experience with the Legacy, the shift change using the paddles with the CVT is very smooth and not jumpy at all. Using the paddle shift def makes the car feel a little faster than regular drive mode. Plus the paddles can be used at any time the car is moving without moving the shifter to the manual gate.
I almost had a chance to test drive one three weeks ago but the Dealership came up with some type of excuse not to let me test drive it. At the same time i was about to Test drive Toyota RAV4 Sport that they had on there lot but still the dealer acted like i couldn't test drive the RAV4 either. So pretty much i didn't get to test drive the Crosstrex or the RAV4 Sport. But that't typical dealerships sometimes but glad to see this video. I really like the car the Crosstrex does look like a fun offroad car. Thanks Kyle for the video
Kyle, I know that you have a very diverse collection of reviews, but I have noticed that you have very few Acuras, not even any new ones. Please, try to review some, especially the MDX please. Thanks.
I was under the impression that since it's supposed to go between several immediate ratios in succession, that skipping some and dropping into a ratio that's relatively far away would put undue stress on it. If I'm wrong, then that's great.
Recently bought a 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Premium Tangerine Orange. Love the car, it may not be as fast as my previous 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T but it has its perks that many overlook. It's spacious, SUV-like but a bit smaller without the big ass like some other SUVs have. Saves on MPG/insurance (had a 2012 Dodge Challenger. Compare 18mpg to 29mpg). Only thing that I would ask for is unique colors. Some new colors wouldn't hurt (Green, Yellow, Purple, etc). Yes green on hybrid.
@Sailor Williams Yes ur right this also indicates the thing that ur engine is opened for surgery or never opened for repair this indicates the excellent condition of engine....
It probably sounds similar to: 1998MY Subaru Forester, and 2011 onwards non-turbo Subaru Foresters, because all those Foresters mentioned have the DOHC naturally-aspirated engines. For 2011 onwards, Foresters use an FB25, while the XV and Impreza use an FB too, but instead the FB20. FB engine is DOHC, an improvement over the SOHC non-turbo EJ Subaru engines has been using for years.
No it is the Limited trim with the leather but the one in the video doesn't have the optioned in Navi. Basic model is the Premium trim with a manual. CVT costs extra.
Always wondered why at the start and end of the vids you hit the unlock/lock buttons more than once?! Twice for locking is only necessary for vehicles with double-locking. But only need one tap to unlock
I didn't mean to imply that I thought it jumped, but it is skipping between ratios much farther apart than a CVT is designed for. The whole reason behind them is to have infinite ratios... so the first thing they do is bypass that ability? IMO it should have a normal 6 speed, or more if they like, with the paddle shifters.
Great video, Kyle. I would like to make a suggestion for the next car you review. And that is the 2013 Scion Fr-s. I don't know if this will make a difference, but I'm throwing it out there. Thanks! (:
Yeah, I get the impression that a lot more is made of CVTs than they really deserve. I've driven two vehicles with a CVT, and I didn't see what all the fuss was about. If it drives as well as I the reviews say, I'll most likely buy one.
I do not know how the wipers effect the brake pedal, all I know with mine and one I test drove is if you are stopped and pressing the brake while the wipers are on, you can feel them vibrate on the brake pedal.
I have never felt the windshield wiper vibrate through the break pedal. I do agree though that the Canadian model has better features than the US model.
its a nice vehicle but the engine is underpowered at 2.0 L, wish they had 2.5L at 170HP like those of the old imprezas. The CVT is noisy, it whines when you're going uphill, and sluggish at acceleration which is an issue if you are merging in the freeway. subaru has special insulation under the hood to minimize the noise in the engine bay.
SJLGG Hey don't second guess yourself. If i was in the market for a small crossover suv i would get this also compared to Rav4 or CVR. Its a breath of freash air and just as reliable :)
Most likely water. The catalytic converters turn the harmful exhaust gasses created by the engine into less harmful things, such as water. Which is why on most cars you'll notice fluid dripping from the exhaust pipe.
For instance.....explain how the wiper would affect the brake pedal. Are they connected? Where would they meet up? Explain the technical work of how that would even happen. It doesn't make any sense how one would affect the other.
Your walk around reviews are the best on UA-cam hands down. You save potential buyers a lot of time.
Details! Thats what we need!! Thanks for this video, dude!!! Real fact, not commercial highlights!!
I completely agree with you. If anything it might even help 'break in' the engine, not that it's needed with today's manufacturing standards. I think the XV sounds amazing when revving.
Ignore the haters, you are doing a great job with your videos, they have improved greatly since you started. I always look forward to your videos!
This is what I am getting when I return from deployment. I am gonna get the 2.0i Premium though.
Jeremy Cook I know it's 3 years late, but I'd like to thank you for your service my friend! I hope you got the car and are enjoying every second of owning it.
@Ian Wildon how do you know
Another year later how did the soldier died😕😂😕😤😳huh??
Well done! an excellent review. I've watched many of your reviews and would have to say that you are one of the very best car reviewers on the internet. Thank you.

Ignore them Kyle, you do a great job and you're improving the quality of your videos, and everybody know that(:
Very nice, thorough review! You answered a lot of my questions about the vehicle. Now, I just need to test drive one to see if I will like the CVT.
Definitely getting my hands on the 2014 model.
I couldn't help but comment on the track played. One of my fav bands.
M83 - Midnight City :)
Awesome song
Really dig this car for its uniqueness. I feel like it will be a hipster hit in 20 years
Once again Kyle you have made my dreams come true. I adore the XV Crosstrek because its a stunning looking car and very versitle
I love how he shows off the exhaust. I just love seeing gas coming out of the pipe. On a serious note. This car does look good.
Excellent I love the way u improve ur videos everytime I watch them

I'm really liking this car. I hate it when you can't get a after market stereo. While this one looks like you can.
Very nice detailed and informative video. Left with no questions to ask.
Just focus on the information he presented! Well done, saabkyle04!
I almost had a chance to test drive one three weeks ago but the Dealership came up with some type of excuse not to let me test drive it. Absolutely love this car and your videos Kyle!
I want one of these so bad! Great job, Kyle!
it is fun to have one
I currently have an 08 legacy limited. I think this might be my next car. I found 1 for $14000 with 58000 miles. Limited.
Kyle, I know that you have a very diverse collection of reviews, but I have noticed that you have very few Acuras, not even any new ones. Please, try to review some, especially the MDX please. Thanks.
Crosstrek. Amazing car. Just bought one yesterday
Looks so much better with the sports mesh grille.
gotta love that autumn sun
This was so informative... Thank you so much for the in depth review
That's exacly what I was waiting for !
Amazing review! Very in depth!
Thank you, every video I've watched never made it clear. Although, it's good to know most other Subarus have an AUX jack.
If I didn't get my prius I probably would have defiantly test drove this beauty!
I was under the impression that since it's supposed to go between several immediate ratios in succession, that skipping some and dropping into a ratio that's relatively far away would put undue stress on it. If I'm wrong, then that's great.

Great video Kyle, I'm interested in this car and it definitely is helpful. Keep it up!
Love watching your videos ! KEEP THEM COMING !
thanks to your review i just purchased a Touring package.
@Sailor Williams Yes ur right this also indicates the thing that ur engine is opened for surgery or never opened for repair this indicates the excellent condition of engine....
Great reivew, very thorough!
Great video as always Kyle!
...just drove one a week ago. Loved it - it was the desert khaki color. woof.!
Good job, Kyle! Don't feel rushed by these people and make quantity effect quality!!
He is, its on the way. I was waiting for this one and the Santa Fe cuz those are two cars im thinking of buying.

this car looks badass
thnx man the Santa Fe looks quite nice
On the H2 I also couldn't agree more. It is a GMC Tahoe, that is what it should be called :D
Very nice looking car lot. Great setting for such business, with all those trees and such. Probably makes people walk around there even more.
I can't wait to get the 2014 model!
Thanks for the great vid. Very concise and a lot of information.
Great review. Just bought a tangerine Crosstrek.
please do a review on 2013 Honda Accord and 2013 Nissan Sentra!
good review as always!
Great review. Thanks.
question, is this the basic model? I like it, doing allot of research on it. i want one by next spring/summer
No it is the Limited trim with the leather but the one in the video doesn't have the optioned in Navi. Basic model is the Premium trim with a manual. CVT costs extra.
No problem. Like his Facebook page, he posts up all his future projects he plans on reviewing.
Yup. I think so. I thought I was going to be one of the only people to notice that drumming.
im sorry, i couldn't resist an opportunity like that. have a nice day :)
A car perfect for more norther climates.
Start Up 1:25
Engine 1:40
Exhaust 1:53
Always wondered why at the start and end of the vids you hit the unlock/lock buttons more than once?! Twice for locking is only necessary for vehicles with double-locking. But only need one tap to unlock
Im glad you tell us what dealer you are at so I wont buy a car from there after you rev the engine the way you do

Underpowered but good looking. Great review,
thanks for the comment. i like it too its for my mom but i wouldn't mind driving it myself:)
I love this Subaru XV!
Great video, Kyle. I would like to make a suggestion for the next car you review. And that is the 2013 Scion Fr-s. I don't know if this will make a difference, but I'm throwing it out there. Thanks! (:
Do a video on the new 2013 FJ Cruiser please, it's a good winter car to do.
How do you like the organge? I've heard that it's not really a pearl colour.
Great review!
Swarthy Daisy That's Right
Wow everythin looks well laid out under the hood.
Just bought one . I love it! J
How has it held up
Yeah, I get the impression that a lot more is made of CVTs than they really deserve. I've driven two vehicles with a CVT, and I didn't see what all the fuss was about. If it drives as well as I the reviews say, I'll most likely buy one.

Agreed. I really hope this trend for wheels with black innards goes away soon.
Nice video kyle! :D
Can you please make a review on the 2013 Fj Cruiser if its out. And if it isn't make one when its available
I have never felt the windshield wiper vibrate through the break pedal. I do agree though that the Canadian model has better features than the US model.
Kyle can you start reviewing interior wind/road noise while driving
PLEASE DEAR KYLE MAKE A REVIEW OF LAND ROVER DEFENDER SPECIAL EDITION!!!
if i had to choose between this or a new escape , escape all the way!
Thank you for the confirmation, much appreciated.
its a nice vehicle but the engine is underpowered at 2.0 L, wish they had 2.5L at 170HP like those of the old imprezas. The CVT is noisy, it whines when you're going uphill, and sluggish at acceleration which is an issue if you are merging in the freeway. subaru has special insulation under the hood to minimize the noise in the engine bay.
I agree...the engine is really under-powered :I
Not sure why I am second-guessing my trade....
SJLGG Hey don't second guess yourself. If i was in the market for a small crossover suv i would get this also compared to Rav4 or CVR. Its a breath of freash air and just as reliable :)
Kye!! When are you doing the 2013 Wrx review??? You skipped the 2012 :(..now I don't know what the difference is between 2012 & 2013 :(.
if you watch saabkyle04 then you have good taste my friend
is this a good car? im about to buy it. Any thoughts, comments????
Very nice! I'd love to have one in gray with a manual.
Looks like a nice vehicle to me! What's this about a Maserati again?
the rims look cool
Great video as always Kyle! :) Also could you do a video on a 2013 Scion Tc or Scion FRS?
That looks really good for a subaru
Does it have the actual AUX input or is it like the BMW "AUX" inputs made only for iPods?
yes it has an aux port and a usb. ive got a crosstrek
Most likely water. The catalytic converters turn the harmful exhaust gasses created by the engine into less harmful things, such as water. Which is why on most cars you'll notice fluid dripping from the exhaust pipe.
Water condensing from the combustion process. Sometimes you will see this as steam out of the tail pipe, sometimes as condensate. This is normal.
For instance.....explain how the wiper would affect the brake pedal.
Are they connected?
Where would they meet up?
Explain the technical work of how that would even happen.
It doesn't make any sense how one would affect the other.
Didn't even know this was coming out, cool. 150hp seems low though, should have put the normal 2.5L
What's the difference between this and an Impreza hatch? Is the XV just a jacked-up Impreza?
This would be something that my aunt would drive
So much emphasis on exhaust/engine sound but no sound when driving which would be interesting to hear with a CVT.
