    Hmm, I was thinking I was making good progress on my project but you've just reminded me of all the aggro yet to come with the bodywork! If my tub is as bad as yours I may just build a flatbed for it. Get to see some Clanger progress - that engine looks mint!

      End of the day, progress is progress. There’s that much to sort out I’m just getting on with what I can with the constraints I face. Definitely think Clanger and Kermit need a get together when they are on the road! Might even try some of those strange beers I hear you on about. All the best Max’ I hope you make some happy memories over Xmas. Mat

      I like spending time ‘with’ both of you so it’s very comfy to meet you both here :)
      Clanger and Kermit meeting is something to look forward to!
      Merry xmas to both of you!

    Very sorry to learn that you have been ill. I hope you are fully restored now. You are moving things forward with the Land Rover project. The engine has come on leaps and bounds since I saw it in summer. Have a good festive period. All the very best to you and your family.

    Hi mate. Only started watching your channel about a fortnight ago but have now watched every episode. I'm in the middle of rebuilding a s2. It's been very slow process. Your videos have given me so much help and really spurred me on so thanks and keep up the good work. Cheers steve b .

      Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback, it’s hard going on any restoration and there will come a time when you get restoration blues and everything just seams an impossible task. I’m at that point now, motivating myself to keep pushing forward gets harder each day. It’s important to stand back and look how much has been done and then find a bit that can be finished. A little win if you like. In the end that’s all the project becomes, a series of little wins after a lot of hard work and expense. I’m trying to put the seat box together and every part is fighting. All the best and keep in touch. Mat

    Some how I have not received notifications for 9 months ! A bit of catching up to do .
    I took 30 years to restore a 1964 Holden Ute, copped plenty of flack from the kids it will never be finished . ( overtime, football, scouts, gymnastics, taking them to part time jobs, getting them to work. ) plenty of spare time on the weekends!

      Hi Christopher, thanks for dropping by, Im afraid Ive not been too regular with the uploads - I prefer to have bits 'done' start to finish rather than a drawn out sequence of uploads. I really want the 109" on the road before summer. Thats going to be a hard target to hit. All the best Mat

    Hi Matt.
    Have you actually tried a "Delux" bonnet ?
    I acquired an "as new" one back in the day and was pleased with the look (no pun) but in reality they are just ridiculous.
    I am not kidding when you recover from the hernia you get from opening the bonnet and prop it open the weight of the wheel twists everything so much it will certainly test your repaired structure.
    Then there is the challenge of getting the wheel on and off the bonnet.
    You will scratch your new paint job.
    One amusing aside is if you fit a nice elasticated wheel cover you will be amazed at the negative "ground effect" air flow demonstrated by the said cover inflating and forming a balloon as it tries to pull itself off the wheel.
    Keep up the good work.
    Don't forget what I said when you started.
    When you get her back on the road be prepared to start .. Forth Road Bridge syndrome to start all over again.
    Just to keep her going.

    Hello Mat,
    Thanks for part 2. With all the work you.ve done so far I bet each new task does not appear so much of a challenge with your newly gained experience. The rear tub is coming together really well... Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hopefully catch you in the new year for another update
    Take care

      Hi Paul, thanks for stopping by. I need to get some stuff fixed to the chassis and out of my workshops so I have some space back. Thats going to mean painting and its really not the weather for spraying or paint drying / curing. Will see how things progress over the coming weeks. All the best Mat

    Matt, when your friend asks how far you are ya going, remind him that your other hobby is machining. Machinist dodgy is brand new to the rest of us. Sorry to hear about your bout with the plague. I had it twice this past summer, vaccines and all. I did go once with the antiviral meds and one without, and I can attest that the antiviral meds are the best route if you've got to go that way. Good you're on this side of the grass and on the mend. Took me the good part of a month to get over the last one without antivirals.

      Things are improving slowly health wise - managing a few extra miles each week. Just feel like Ive been run over by a truck ! It appears from those Ive talked to locally, that bug wasnt covid, justa winter flu type varient - to me it felt worse than the initial reaction to the covid vaccine (3 days feeling rough), but this went on for 3 weeks before I started to feel no worse. Fingers crossed I can get my system back into fighting form asap and not fall foul to something else meanwhile. All the best Mat

    Sorry to hear you've been poleaxed by some lurgi - hope you regain strength soon. You seem to have completely changed your video style since the days of rebuilding that lathe. Did you break the camcorder and decide to do it all hand held with your phone and no editing? I tend to close my eyes now to avoid sea sickness. Long for more tripod shots, and less talk more action, but that's just my preference. All the best for 2023.

    Matt further to my previous comments .. I have just realised .. even though my old girl has moved on to a new life; I still have said Delux bonnet in the shed.
    Along with a razor edge one I thought looked more cool than the series 3 but never actually fitted.

    • @lookcreations
      @lookcreations  Рік тому +1

      Hi Steve, that’s the way projects go, they move on and leave a trail of unused parts and special tools behind. I’ve not used a deluxe bonnet, if needs be I could fit a gas strut to aid lift, or swap to razor bonnet….. that’s a way off yet ! All the best Mat

    You're a brave man, Matt. To my eye, you'd be better off just using it as a model to fabricate one from good metal. Hammer forming, and you would be just the man to bolt up a shop made hydraulic press for bending.

    • @lookcreations
      @lookcreations  Рік тому +1

      Its a time thing, making up the forms to make the bonnet front & rear frames would be excessive - I can always look for a better part at a later date if necesary. The rear tub on the otherhand - chopping out the corrossion & welding material back in seams a better approach to my mind than removing all the steel lockbolts (about 40) to be replaced with a softer ali' part which is not a good match and held in with rivets. I guess time will tell. Interestingly, the rear tub corrossion on my previous defender had been patched and glue bonded and rivetted in. That might be plan C :-)

    Maybe you should have just fabricated a car from scratch. 😂 it’s a major undertaking but I am confident you will get there .

    • @lookcreations

      That is a direction some of the bespoke Landrover Defender builders take. They buy a new chassis and bulkhead and build from there. Then register the build against an old logbook and voila- you’ve got $100k defender for a build cost of maybe half that. Alas a lot of the older series (like mine), parts are no longer available like new rear tubs. Though they would not be tricky to replicate for a coach building shop. Landrover are not renowned for sleek curves 🤣. Cheers Brian. Mat

    I can't imagine your repairs ever restoring the structure if this rust bucket to the point of being safe to drive or restoring any crashworthiness. Galvanizing way too thin porous metal won't make it strong again. Welding strong bars into weak structures won't fix anything either. It will just move the failure point to a different spot.
    I'm concerned for your safety.

    • @stevewilliams2498
      @stevewilliams2498 Рік тому +2

      Don't forget it isn't monocoque.
      He has done a brilliant job on the huge structural bits .. that are the old school strength of a Landy.

    • @lookcreations
      @lookcreations  Рік тому

      I appreciate your concerns, 'safety' is in my mind every time I look at a repair - in this instance, the bonnet frame only supports the spare wheel mounted on it. The front & rear pressed frames were repaired where the main vertical faces required - these take the load and aid in supporting the aluminium skin that its rivetted to. The bonnet itself, is only supported at the bulkhead / firewall with two half tube hinges and the front spring pin onto the radiator panel. The main structural elements are the chassis and bulkhead. Both have been rebuilt - the chassis by a coded welder. Landrovers of this age dont come off too good if 'rolled', no crumple zones on the chassis and side impacts if froma high vehical are a little worrying. All that to say, yes, I have concerns as well and make modifications as best I can.
      Thanks fr commenting. All the best for xmas. Mat

      @@lookcreationsYes very difficult to teach yourself, particulary with old metal.
      The pedal isn't that important really. Your man who tigged the chassis had the right method.... Pulse with trigger and slope down..... Very useful technique, I use it all the time at work.
