The Mardi Himal Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a remarkable 10-day journey that traverses through some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes of the Annapurna region in Nepal. The trek kicks off with a drive from Pokhara to Kande, where you begin your ascent to the Australian Camp. This initial stage offers panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. As you continue, the trail leads through dense rhododendron forests, eventually reaching Forest Camp and then Low Camp. The trek becomes more challenging as you climb to High Camp, where the alpine meadows open up to stunning vistas of Mardi Himal (5,587 meters) and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
An early morning trek from High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at approximately 4,500 meters, is the highlight of the journey. The base camp offers an unparalleled close-up view of the surrounding peaks and a sense of accomplishment as you stand beneath the towering Mardi Himal. After soaking in the views, you descend back to Low Camp and make your way to the picturesque village of Landruk. Here, the trek intersects with the classic Annapurna Base Camp trail, leading you to Chomrong, the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary.
The trail from Chomrong to Annapurna Base Camp is a gradual ascent through lush bamboo forests and along the Modi Khola river. As you pass through villages like Bamboo, Dovan, and Himalaya, the anticipation builds until you finally reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. The base camp provides a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Annapurna Massif, including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. The experience is truly mesmerizing, with the towering peaks surrounding you in all directions.
After spending the night at Annapurna Base Camp, you retrace your steps to Jhinu Danda, where you can unwind in the natural hot springs. The final leg of the trek involves a descent to Nayapul, followed by a jeep ride back to Pokhara, where the adventure concludes.
