I've worked as an engineer in both the East and West Coast, specifically Boston, Massachusetts and Cupertino, California, two of the most expensive cities in the USA and arguably the world. In this video, I will talk about some of the crazy purchases I made with my $150K engineering income and show you exactly how much I spend each month. I'll also share several financial lessons I learned along the way and effective ways to better manage your money once you start working.

I'm very happy to see that you were able to get a nice job! I'm a mechanical engineer and unemployed for 2 years, hope my luck turn arround soon
try joining the military
@@kurger100 I've already tried before but there are too many unemployed engineers in my country, so the competition is very hard. A lot of them have PhD or masters degree, what puts them way ahead in the selection process
@@henriquetinoco6785 which country are u belongs too?
@@devil6075 I'm from Brazil, the country where most of the Uber drivers are engineers
In the moment you said you were a mechanical engineer and unemployed for two years, i knew you were brazilian 😓 F
At 27 years old i'm about to start mechanical(probably) engineer here too... fuck... wish me lucky. I surely wish you!
You’re obviously employed again which is great. Keep working hard to add value and you’ll be fine.
Indulging in extravagance is a normal part of working. Tracking and keeping it under control is the challenge.
Thank you for the info !!
Wow, thats really good money! Here in the UK, as a mechanical engineer, I only earnt £42,000 as starting salary which is around $55,000
Competent content. Good job.
the glow up between this and your 'day in the life of an unemployed' is crazy. gg
First I watched your video on A Day In the Life... and I am happy to discover this one on spending. Congratulations!
Hello, I'm a mech graduate as well. I wonder what you did and how you studied for the job searching. any tips would be great. Thanks
Assuming a generous 75% take home on the 150k, the monthly post-tax income comes to something like 9400$. Not sure what his savings rate would be
For real. This video is worrying. Dude is saving maybe a few hundred a month at most which is no where near enough to retire. My guess is that his parents probably help him out in different ways
You are so right! I saved every penny possible after I started working and it slowly became an obsession that tore me apart😪
Treating yourself with silly purchases are okay in the beginning of a big job. After that I chill
Congratulations on getting a great job
instead of materialistic desires maybe people shoud think about passive incomings.
You should consider patent law as a career
Are you working for a company now? Or do you work independently as a freelancer?
Hey, do you work at apple?
The business expense over $2k on monthly basic is consider high pricing item from my humble opinion...
Victor, I'm thinking about getting a bachelors in mechanical engineering. Are there jobs? or will I be unemployed?
by the way, do you like your job? and, do you have to move to those expensive cities to get a job in engineering?
Hey Mat! There is definitely a good amount of mechanical engineering opportunities out there so don't worry about being unemployed. You can get a ME job basically anywhere in the USA, though some states might be more limited than others. Michigan is one of the best states for mechanical engineering jobs.
You can easily do away with those designer wear clothing. It's complete nonsense and a waste of money. You probably also purchase Supreme lol
What college did you go to and what exact engineering degree do you have
I studied ME @ Boston University😁
You were living LARGE! (Try buying regular t-shirts!)
Idk how your able to keep taxes low Boston would take 30.05% of your income so 45k would be gone from that but your monthly is going over that? gotta chill on some purchases man its kinda worrying 😅 You might not be spending that now but I would defin try to follow the 50/30/20 rule with your net salary so you can aim for retirement early and live comfortably when emergencies occur. Good video though and keep it up.
Show us the Bugatti
Damn no student loans lol
Now I know why old people always tell young people to get married! (LOL)
$50 a month on a tshirt?
you have to be trolling🤣
That Balenciaga t looks clean. Worth every penny 👌
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic🤔
@@EngineeringGoneWild not sarcastic, i told my kid we arent eating this month and bought the same tee

buy a bike ! you will get such good experiences out of it
Just what we needed, another engineer humble bragging their salary. Because we don't already have 10,000 of those
this is a engineering based UA-camr, you clicked on the video....😱
@@thatkidwander8871 when you're an engineer, sadly your recommendations become mostly cringe stem and tech influencers. Impossible to avoid at this point.
@@user-xv6ig2yp3z sounds like you work at taco bell
@@majingumby568 nope. Software engineer. Just exhausted by copy and paste influencers making low effort content
Well this is what people are interested in
Is the 150k net or gross salary? How much do you pay in taxes?
It’s gross unfortunately and tax is around 30%😅
That leaves you with about $8750. But your expense is almost $10k, do you have another income stream that offsets the deficit?
@@Saki630 why don’t you get off his dick and and reason for yourself fanboy, it’s a simple question that I asked.
@@Saki630 what's wrong with you? dekev was just questioning the budget, because it seemed odd that he was seemingly using more money than he was earning. If we look at business equipment, and how he decided to list it in the monthly budget, it's obvious where the mistake came from. EngineeringGoneWild decided to phrase it incorrectly at 08:13. "I paid ... per month". It is not fair to call this a monthly budget, as he included several one-time purchases, and didn't account for some hypothetical time frame until he would upgrade or replace them. Instead, this is a month-specific budget. His true budget might fluctuate:
month 1 -> month 2 -> ... -> month N
$9500 -> $4500 -> $4500 -> $5500 -> $20000 -> $4500 or whatever.
Instead, it would probably be more fruitful to look at the essentials and relatively consistent costs, such as rent and food.
@@EngineeringGoneWild Lol. where I live they will take you 50%+
What you do is really irresponsible. You should save most of your money and purchase a house or two and invest in the markets. Eventually you will lose your job and will regret all the stupid decisions you made.
