It's kinda weird when people say "all of a sudden he a gangster". You don't have to be an active gang member to experience and know the effects of poverty, drugs, and gang culture. It's called survival.

The best part of this video is that Kendrick & Dave Free, instead of just giving handouts to the homies, are actually training them and putting them into position to fish for themselves and be self reliant. That's real love right there. That's bigger than the set, the hood or affiliations, if you will. If these guys seize the opportunities, they have a chance to change their families' lives forever. Hats off to Kendrick. Los Angeles, protect that man at all costs!

People don’t realize how traumatic it is to grow up like this. People talk about their childhood where they didn’t have to think about friends being killed or other traumatic situations like being approached by drug addicts etc. Our childhood was so much different and then the other trauma is not having stable family dynamics. When everyone is struggling to make ends meet, living isn’t easy. My mom worked two to three jobs to get us out which she did but it was too late. We were already affected. Wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

This is why I despise people like Lord Jamar. Just because Kendrick doesn't promote gang culture doesn't mean he didn't experience it. Just because he wanted to uplift his community/culture with his music, rather than pushing violence doesn't mean he is some nerd who is oblivious to the streets. Kendrick is one of those rare artists who can viably walk on the line between those two worlds ,with honesty and real perspective. Kendrick is a rarity. And even if you don't mess with his music you have to respect him as a person.
(Edit) Also much respect for making this video. A lot of clips I had never seen before. It's refreshing seeing people make actual content, based in reality. When it seems most people are clickbaiting, and saying whatever they need to for views. I am def subscribing. The title of the first track on GNX shows what timing Kendrick's on because he removed the "k" in "Wacced" Out. That's a Pulitzer prize winner showing love to the other side on the biggest album of his career. If you know you know. Dot went through his transformations over the last decade but when he went to war this year he fell back on the hood and his city for support. Now he's giving back, first with the Pop Out putting on for every section, and now with every young rapper featured on the album is from different hoods just like TDE. He's trying to show the next generation that the only way out is working together and winning off each other. A united west coast is formidable. Same dream Nipsey had R.I.P.

Damn this comment is deep bro, makes me want to say I love you and to everyone else commenting. We live in a sick world, Kendrick is a very layered artist. It’s like he paints a picture, and if you erase it, there’s another picture behind it. Also the fact that his negatives is the source to create the positives in his life speak volumes that we can’t comprehend, each album he makes is different as he transitions from section 80. And it’s like the music industry today wants us to stay collapsed, doesn’t want us to have insight to analyze the best solution for our situation, doesn’t want us to realize how it started in the first place, and how to overcome it. I hope that in the future we can push Kendrick and other real artists to a higher level

GKMC is literally describing everyone here. Being local, everyone our age knows exactly who Kendrick is, it’s what we call ‘neighbourhood business’ it isnt for outsiders if he doesn’t make it his public persona. It had to be made known with all the shit going on who Dot is this year… Kendrick is WSP. He’s one of theirs. What exactly that means no outsiders need to know… all they need to know is a violation of him is a violation of the section and everything that follows should be obvious.

Typically somebody’s watching out and tells the hood not to jump you in. You already protected, but you still in that environment so you go through the same shit. Out of all gang activity on the planet, LA has the most distinctive trait when it comes to gang culture. It is not the same as gangs in Florida, New York, Texas, Illinois, or even prison.
It's the same thing with Nick Cannon; people say he is corny but only niggas from LA and especially Eastside of SD know what Nicholas used to do around Lincoln Piru during his teen years and who his father is. Nick Cannon wasn't affiliated either. His dad was, mitchy slick says this. Nick claims that he was, then sometimes he claims he wasn't. Sometimes he had one friend die and it made him leave the gang life behind, in other renditions it was multiple friends.
